Can I buy what we played last night? Does the $40 version of the game cover running a server with multiple ships?

Right now it's on the honor system, and it's expected that you buy a license for every server you want to run. (One server can run multiple ships.) If you play a lot, consider throwing the creator an extra purchase or three.

If I only wanted to run one server, how many people can join it? the FAQ on the website is not very clear to me.

Tagging this because it sounds very neat.

So, there's only one executable, and no licenses. We're a good group of people. If you're gong to host your own sessions, go toss them the $40. You already have the files you need. If you're only going to join up when we get something going on my license, then you're good. Whether you start a server or not is just a difference of what you click when you launch the app. Let your conscience be your guide there.

The server handles 6 ships of 6.

Thank you! My question be answered. Time to spend some moneys.

Update: Moneys spent!

So, no offense to the Star Trek skinning of the game, but I tried playing some stock game by myself and I have to say that the ships seem a bit more complex. I also found that with some settings on the server, you can make the game MUCH harder. And the space area much more interesting.

That's awesome.

Anyone up for a game this weekend? I'll buy it if none of the other purchasers can make it.

I might be able to make it if it's at the right time of day.

I've been hoping to find a crew to play this with for quite some time (my brother and I spent a lot of hours playing this when we were young, except we called it 'NASA', our ships consisted of furniture in our bedroom, and the bay window only turned into a viewscreen in hour heads).

How about playing some Sunday afternoon? Maybe around 5pm EST or later?

The missions look really cool, and are much more complex, but they require everyone to be able to see (and hear) the main screen. The cool ones have like incoming audiologs and stuff, and in general, a LOT for the comms person to do, as the become the defacto path for each scenarios story.

a person to hand out snacks

I think you've just described a person conspicuously missing from every single crew on Star Trek.

What do you think Yeoman Rand was doing there?

Damnit missed the fun, tagging, as well as a request send me a PM if you want another crew member (I'm PST so it may screw things up a bit) I am so there!

I am so ready to record some of those audiologs and emergency notifications! We need to get on this! Create the goodjer kobe beef maru scenario.

Steam group?

I don't recall her ever appearing on the bridge with a tray of canapes.

That time works for me.

Done and done. I already invited most everyone I could find that participated in this thread, it's a public group, so you can also add yourselves.

Hrmm... I SHOULD be able to convince my family I have IMPORTANT WRITING TO DO around then. Sign me up.

We are once again in the "Portal 2" section of our Ventrilo servers.

So Mojo, Yonder and myself took on two missions this afternoon and I think it went pretty well. We ramped up the difficulty to five and survived both of them despite all of us trying brand new stations. The second round we discovered we could change the type of ship and set out with the middle heavy boat that starts with eight nukes.

We might want to start having a regular night to meet up or something. Wednesday around eight would work for me.

Fluffer.

Count me in for the next one after Rabbitcon, you furry little enabler you. I will MAKE the time happen for this.

Should we try again for something this weekend?

I'm busy on Saturday, but should be able to do something on Sunday.

I should be available to play again Sunday.

I really do wish you could play the game with different ships instead of everyone having the same class.

Weekends are kinda bad for me. I'd prefer something that's not weekend or wednesday if possible.

I'd be up for Wednesdays too but the weekend is closer right now.

Can there be a Battlestar Galactica version where the comms officer shoots the captain, the weapons officer gets drunk, and you blow the science officer out the airlock?

Cos I'd be up for that.

Bagsies weapons officer.

There's nothing that says you can't do that. You don't even need to do it in game.
