Short Month, Shorten the Pile

Pages

2012 is off to a great start. Some of us had a pretty impressive January. February is a short month, but that's not an excuse to at least knocking one more game off the pile.

If you're interested, m0nk3yboy, has the 12 month pile plan thread over here.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Pick's of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the Google doc I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

[size=30][b]Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard

"Matt Hazard, a legendary video game character with over 25 years of video games to his credit, is attempting a "comeback" of sorts in a new game on next-generation consoles. In the introduction, Matt explains the history of his games, revealing that he accidentally caused his own downfall by taking his name into other genres, resulting in him ruining his reputation by putting himself in kid-friendly games. The game that he is currently starring in has him as a private detective seeking to return money stolen by a mob boss." (wikipedia.org)

I'm going to keep plugging away at Red Faction: Guerrilla. I'll probably throw another game on there as well. I just need to figure out what I feel like playing.

Put me down for Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii) (that's old enough right?) and Deus Ex (PC). One of those two should go down this month. Preferably both.

Please put me down for American McGee's Alice, which came free with Alice: Madness Returns. I hope to add more later in the month, but that's what I'm going after first.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City followed by Dragon Age: Ultimate Edition. So, progress on clearing the pile is about to stall out for a few months, but at least updates on this thread will be easy.

The Witcher Enhanced Edition (PC) will be my first game of February. Not loading too much on my plate since I wanna be free on March 6th for ME3.

I am going to complete Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard (if it kills me) this month on 360. I will add more, but I want to see what aftertaste I need to rinse out first upon completion.

Spoiler:

OK, it's not that bad, but I've played MUCH better. Definitely 'worth' the $8 I paid for it.

Damn, all I've accomplished so far in ME2 is download reduce priced DLC.

Deadly Premonition.

I'm going to start with Dead Space 2 (PS3).

Super Mario 3D Land and FF XIII-2 are also on my plate, but both are too new.

Short month? We haven't had a February this long in years! Thanks, Obama.

I'm going to carry over/re-declare Orcs Must Die! for February. Also put me down to finish Toy Soliders. I don't want to declare too much for February, since it is a short month and my FemShep ME1/ME2 playthrough will be taking a lot of my time.

I started Darksiders on 360 last night, FINALLY! I will attempt to finish it before the end of the month. Huzzah for goals!

Put me down for Bastion (XBLA) again. I will actually probably finish it up later today and then I will have to decide what to tackle next.

On the heels of beating LA Noire last month, I feel pretty happy about resuming my pile reduction.

This month, I'm going to put Demons Souls (PS3) to bed. Maybe I'll get to Dark Souls in a year

If I could ever put down Defence Grid and Bejeweled 3 I might actually make some progress.

This month I am going bold and saying I will complete

Alpha Protocol
LA Noire

Bold because I have no progress in either game...

After taking down Dead Space 2, ARES, Dragon Age 2, and Puzzle Agent 2 in January, I'm going to keep my streak going.

For Feb, I want to run through Assassin's Creed II andPenny Arcade II.

In honor of Too Human on my pile, this month I will refer to the OP as 'Heimdal'.

Oh, and put me down for Too Human (360) as well.

Put me down for Prototype (PS3) and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. I may declare something else later, since in actuality, I beat Prototype's story mode and watched to credits (begin to) roll last night. I'm still going to spend some time with Prototype, though and finish off all of the events and such.

Borderlands for me.

Zelda will be eligible next month. It came out Nov 18th.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (DS) for me, I only have a few chapters left so I should finish it soon.

Wouldn't that make it eligible before the end of February? Either way, looks like I'll be clearing it before the eligibility like I did with Mass Attack.

I'm going to chip away at Saints Row 2 and SMT - Strange Journey. I don't expect to finish either during the month though.

Put me down for Catherine and Metroid Fusion, please.

I'm working on Defense Grid:The Awakening on PC. Really fun game but I am stuck on the "Waste Disposal" map.

I'll take Bioshock 2 and another month of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. The first should be easy to get done, but AC:B is probably a stretch goal.

Right. November, December, January (that's 3) and now it's February. Either way, I'm gonna play it even if it doesn't go on the list.

I suppose there's three ways to interpret the rule:

1) "Games must have been released on or before the first day of the month three months ago"
2) "Games must have been released on or before the last day of the month three months ago"
3) "Games can't be added to the thread until they're at least three months old"

Interpretation #1 and #2 are effectively the same thing, it's setting an absolute cutoff date for this month. It's just a matter if it's 11/1 or 11/30.

Interpretation #3, while it seems the most straightforward, actually might be the silliest way to track things, because you'd have people that have to wait until a certain day in the month to post to the thread, and to keep true to the rule there's probably have to be more management/policing on hem's end that submissions qualify.

Puzzle Agent 2 for me. All the games I'm playing this month are on the newer side, but I think I can find time for a 3-hour long game, for the sake of knocking something off the list

Please put me down for Sam & Max 202: Moai Better Blues and Atom Zombie Smasher.

For AZS, since it is designed to be played multiple times through, I will probably count it as beaten after a second runthrough of the campaign, maybe with some mods. I'm about half way through my first campaign now.

I might get to other games this month, but I'm mostly playing Saints Row The Third, which doesn't count yet.

December 18th, January 18th and then February 18th is 3 months. March is the first month it's eligible.
