Diablo III Catch-All

Well I still got one, but my PC is also pretty stacked so who knows, I wont play too too much because I don't want to ruin it all and have to start over. I assume characters won't transfer over.

For a data point on the beta prioritization favoring non-customers:

I had a WoW account for a little while back before the 3rd expansion (and I didn't even get Burning Crusade). That's the only account that is attached to my Battle.net account. I never got into Starcraft, but did own both Diablos and all their expansions, plus a couple of the Warcraft RTS games that predate WoW. So, I'm one of those "non-customers" that is on the fence about Diablo III and this may very well be a reason I got an invite.

Had to resist playing this morning - rolled up a Demon Hunter but that is as far as I'd let myself go, otherwise I wouldn't be at work right now.

Count me in the bitter pile...

Of course my ancient laptop may not even be able to run this bad boy.

Got a beta invite to this and DOTA 2 yesterday. Much preferred my game in this last night.

Haha I'd almost rather have a DoTA 2 invite, but hey now I'm just being greedy

Re: 10 years of development. What I have read is that Blizzard North was developing Diablo 3, and then Blizzard axed that whole site. I think D3 died with it and was only resurrected a few years later. So it might not have 10 years of actual development.

You would be correct. It has been through three reboots that I know about, plus two very different takes that never made it very far (read: changing it to a game about pirates, and one ill-fated sci-fi attempt if I remember correctly). The first time I saw anything from it was 2004/2005, so I can only comment about it going back that far. They had a really hard time changing their pipeline to go from 2d to 3d.

: (

I think people who placed preorders should get a shot at the beta.

I just checked my Amazon account:

Order Placed: August 16, 2010

On the bright side, I was in the Diablo II Beta.

I'm a sucker and the collectors is going to be pre-ordered as soon as its up. My bookcase will be full of Blizzard special editions.

Oh, I preordered that in November from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050SZC5U/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details

I still have my Diablo II D&D game.

They did that fairly late in the Starcraft II beta. So, patience?

I didn't know that existed until I saw it in the local boardgame store mixed in with the GURPS books they have.

Ya, there is no order, only a sign up now

Yay for hypocracy! I'm as giddy as a school girl =)

I've been toying with the idea in recent months of ActiBlizzard preferring non-customers over fans for beta access in recent years. Up until and including WOW:TBC, I always got a beta account (and actually beta tested with bug reports, feedback and stuff like that taken seriously). But ever since then, not a single one. I have payed years of WOW subscriptions of up to 3 accounts, clocked thousands of hours in WoW and hundreds in the RTS games. Most people I know that have similar user stats when it comes to Blizzard games have not received beta access since WOW:TBC as well. Of the people I do know that received beta accounts, all of them were casual, "on and off" WoW subscribers with next to no involvement in older Blizzard titles. I have the feeling they are too sure of their long-time fans and using beta access to lure in new blood, on the fence players and "swing voters". Having a fully loaded BNet account means bottom of the list for beta testing.

I am even considering registering a new BNet account with just a Diablo 2 key attached to it just to test my hypothesis.

I think the process is entirely random. It is a good conspiracy theory though. To add to it, maybe Blizzard doesn't want WoW players spending time playing Diablo III beta, in fears that they might stop playing WoW and cancel their accounts.

Oh, it's painful when someone you know gets the nod and you don't.

Curses! I keep checking my battle.net account, but it's NEVER THERE!

I received my beta invite late last night, found it this morning when I got to work. Now it's the all day waiting game until I can get home and start downloading. I'm trying not to be too excited since I hear this is pretty small content wise.

This is one of the reasons I have logmein on my gaming rig. When i find out patches, or other large things are available, sign in, start the DL from my phone, and bam, all nice and shiny when i get home.

I'm in! Rallick#1762 for fun and friendship!

I hate all of you people.

I didn't even want a beta invite anyway.

How I feel right now:

Is there a thread that already exists for Goodjer B.Net Battle Tags?

If not, should one exist?

If so, would someone less lazy than me go make one?

This goes to my theory that one of life's basic stats is a Luck rating. I'm not sure what the scale is, I only know mine is just above the "piano falls from the window onto your head" threshold. Other than meeting my wife, I don't think there's anything I've come across in my life that I could point to and say, "that was a stroke of luck!" By contrast, I have a friend who is at the top of the scale, just above the, "I lost my wallet in a major airport and got it back in the mail 4 days later. With all the cash and credit cards still in it. From another country." threshold.

No beta invite, despite D2 being the only game I have registered on Bnet (for some reason my ancient WoW subscription isn't on there) and my computer falling squarely in the middle of current specs.

It's not random. It's luck.

So my battletag is:

redfang #1780

I sent out a bunch of friend invites. Oddly, I could not send a friend request to Grenn#1337.

My Battletag is Nimcosi#1174

I too received one of the coveted invites and desire for you to friend me up; AnimeJ#1801 is meh battletag.

Not sure if it works for D3 but shoptroll#190 is my bnet 2.0 id on Starcraft II

The fates were with me. Crinkle 1234.

So, question.. anyone else getting really bad lag, or is this something on my end for me to work out?

Ugh, so I'm getting the Error_300008 thing that isn't letting me connect. So much for playing around with this tonight. Haven't seen any official Blizzard comment on it yet in the support forums, so I'll wait for a server reset.

I did find this particular gem while I was in the forums. It seems that this user didn't bother to read the part that said "enter your date of birth" and just entered the current date. Accordingly, the beta blocked him due to age restrictions. How does our little Rhodes Scholar react?

it asked for a date didnt says what it wanted in the date alteast i didnt know what it wanted so i put the closest to the current date possible withch was yesterday nowwww. what they really wanted was my birth day so now my battle net account is lababled a day old baby user fresh out the woom kinda person trying to log on battle.net and knows all my log info can use a authenticator and wants to join the d3 beta but o wait there a age restriction baby u can play in another xx amounts years or wait a min maybe this guys just !@#$ed up and didnt know that spot was for his birthday w/e %^-* it he had his chane move on invite someone else so i a 1 day old baby wrote this all and is upset u can play d3 beta even hes suscribed to wow for a whole just to get chance to hope he gets invited to the betea and have ur it blow up in vute lil baby cheak face right FML

Yeah buddy, I'm sure Blizzard will miss your input during the beta testing phase.

Agreed on that. It quite clearly stated what the date they were asking was for.

As for the can't connect error, I got it once, retried and managed to long in fine. But given how laggy it seems, I'd wager that their servers are getting slammed right now seeing as there was probably a huge amount of beta invites that went out today, extrapolating from how many folks here got them.

Except that Blizzard is rewarding our WoW addiction by giving us Diablo 3 for free at launch...

But only if you buy the annual pass (another way they are getting people to keep subscribing).
