GWJ Board Game Math Trade

Pages

In the Board Gaming catch all the idea of a GWJ math trade came up so I took it upon myself to organize it.

What is a math trade/how does it work?

The GWJ Math Trade Geeklist

To keep shipping costs under control I think we're limiting it to USA and Canada. It's recommended when filling out your wish list to take the originating country into account so no one ends up paying a ton in shipping.

Sorry, no Coffee Grinders allowed. In addition, please post your BoardGameGeek id in this thread if you are adding games and your ids don't match up.

Note that you *could* end up still shipping outside the country, if other people are willing to do so and the trade chain works out that way. Making sure you only pick games from people in your country will lessen that chance, though.

Looking forward to this! I'll try and get my stuff added today or tomorrow.

Awesome! I'll get my games on when I get back home and can verify the conditions. Probably Friday or Saturday.

I've got my eye on you, Conflict of Heroes.....hopefully someone wants one of my Ameritrash monstrosities.

Let's bring up the average rating of that list!
Necroyeti, I'd be more interested in Descent if 2.0 wasn't coming out this year. I am into ameritrash, but it helps if I've heard of the game

Ah hell. I had no idea. Guess it makes sense they'd want to strike back with all the WotC games coming out and whatnot.

Still, getting it in a trade for a game you don't want is like getting it for free!

Also, Doom is really good. Plays a lot faster than Descent. I've even got some of my videogaming buddies who wouldn't touch something like Pandemic to play multiple rounds.

I've never done this before, but right now sounds like a great time to start.

I guess my only concern is, what if someone from California wins a copy of my game, and I have to ship from Ontario.

I think the onus for paying for shipping should be on the person who receives the game. They can control which games they put on their "want" list and accept the possibility that they might have to pay for international shipping. Those actually doing the shipping can't control who picks their games.

True, but that adds payment transfer to the complexity of the trade.

The easiest way to prevent this is everyone must choose games from their country. If everyone does that then no one will be shipping internationally. I'm not sure how much of a headache it would be for me to enforce that but I'll do what I can.

That said, if you want to pay more and you want to work out a deal with the shipper, that's perfectly fine. I wouldn't do that with strangers but on GWJ it should be fine.

Edit: On the other hand, small games might not be a big deal to ship from Canada to US, right? Maybe we should just put the onus on the receiver to pay extra.

Should we have any rules about no coffee grinders?

Yeah, that's a good idea. It does open the doors for someone to scam the trust here.

So I guess to go along with that, people should post their BGG ids here so we can link people in case they're no the same ids.

I'm SixteenBlue if that's not clear.

Mine is elproducto

In some of the math trades I was involved with people dealt with shipping large items and across the border by offering to pay shipping up to a point. For example, I might pay the first fifteen dollars and the recipient would cover the rest.

I am atomic_dog on BGG.

I will dig through the game closet and see what I have that might be worth a trade and try and get them up by the weekend.

I am necroyeti (Steve M) on BGG, if that was not also clear. Authentic!

Ooh, Arkham Horror! Now we're cookin with fire. Looking forward to seeing more stuff!

Is ooklac a poster on here? I just realized, despite my efforts, that the list is still public and anyone can contribute to it. I originally made it private but that appeared to make it private to just me.

Does anyone know if you can make the list public but not show up in the list of Geeklists?

ooklac is my BGG Id. I changed my public name on BGG to match my forum name here. Sorry for the confusion.

Doh, should've put that together. Thanks.

No worries. Despite having an account for years, this is my first use of BGG apart from researching games I want to buy and the occasional recording of plays.

Any advice from veterans as to the art of using sweeteners? I'm guessing it helps when you want to put two ~$20 games to trade from a ~$40 game?

I'll get registered and figure things out this week. I have some stuff I want and some stuff I wouldn't mind parting with.

That reminds me. I set the deadline at a week from yesterday. Is that not enough time for anyone?

I'm Deliverator over on BGG.

Sometimes I'll toss on a sweetener for a game that isn't quite as popular, but will maybe move if the person on the other end is getting 2-for-1. Or I'll combine several smaller games together to help on shipping and maybe get something a little bigger in return.

Yeah, I guess I don't really understand how the sweetener thing works, but if there's something you want in addition to something else, I guess just hit me up?

I'm GWJ_DanyBoy on BGG, naturally.

The list is coming together nicely, so far. I'm excited.

I'm MonoCheli on BGG I put up one game so far and hope to add a couple more later.

I'm muzzynyc on BGG.

How do I specify which games I want in return? I'm a little concerned because there's not a lot on offer that I'm interested in so far.

That's the next step after everyone has added their games. Apparently there is a tool you can use to make this whole process easier.

If there's not much you're interested in, that's ok. Just fill out your want list with what fews thing (if any) that you are willing to trade for and worst case you just won't trade. The point of the math trade is everyone gets something they actually want. If you don't want anything that's unfortunate but perfectly acceptable.

Edit: Also I do hope you find something you like because I'm eyeing that Nexus Ops.

Thanks for the clarification. Long time BGG-er, first time trader.

Okay, I'm in. Maybe someone's always been thinking about Dwarven Dig—maybe not. No biggie.
