Forza 4: Catch-All

Got the game for Christmas. Love it so far. I hope to get n the club and post some times.

But don't worry. I really suck.

Does this remind anyone else of the AI in Forza 4?

Sure that didn't come from Forza 4? One of the things I'd hoped they'd fix with the AI is them randomly veering into you. Sadly, it's as bad as it ever was.

Rewind when racing the AI is the only way to avoid ragequit.

Once the AI decides it needs to be on the green line then it will be there no matter what.

I received Forza 4 as a Christmas gift. I can't wait to take it for a spin!

Can you import content from Forza 3?

I'm really enjoying this version much more than the last two. I'm just bumping my difficulty up, currently on Hard.

I prefer a more arcade experience, a la PGR or Shift. And I find the racing in Shift to be more visceral and fun. But I am finding a lot to really enjoy about Forza 4's driving. But it is the social aspect of signing up with the GWJ race club and getting a chance to play in Rivals mode that is really going to make this a more entertaining game.

So far the career mode is nice and linear. My all-time favorite career mode was PGR 2, followed slightly by the old NFS: High Stakes. Forza 4 does a nice job of combining the two.

I bought in enough to pick up the Season Pass when it was on sale for 1800 points. It feels like it will be my go to racer for the rest of this gen, at least.

Mostly, it just feels like this version is very approachable to a casual racer, but has lots of customization available if you want to go down that rabbit hole of intense sim.

Yes, you can import some of the cars (including some cars that are unicorns in Forza 4), and I think some money. It gives you the option to import after the first intro race. You might want find a guide on what cars will be imported. I think at least one car that is a unicorn in Forza 4 can be purchased normally in Forza 3, and will import. Other cars while not Unicorns might be worth buying in Forza 3 and importing just so you don't have to buy them.

I imported my save from Forza 3 into Forza 4; I definitely came over with cars, but I don't know that I brought over much in the way of credits.

Your answer can be found here.

The secret import car is the Delorean.

I know I did a Tran Turismo save game import that brought in some credits, so I might have been thinking of that.

The Christmas tree is gone and the wheel will will resume its rightful place in the center of the TV room this weekend. Look for more slowly decreasing times in Rivals soon!

Wooo... Brought over the painstakingly-created Minnesota license plate. Glad I don't have to do THAT again...

Picked this up along with the speed wheel as a late Christmas gift to myself. I'll be sending an application to the group soon. Gamertag is fogrob71. Looking forward to maybe racing some new guys in very slow cars? I've never been very good at forza, but yet I still love playing.

I've found Forza 4 to be much more approachable.

My great goals for Christmas break were smashed because of immature firmware for the CSR Elite. The wheel feels fantastic but the current firmware has a 5-10 degree FFB deadzone that drives me nuts. So maybe when I finally get back home in March they will have mature firmware. Fanatec continues its love-hate relationship with me.

EDIT: Looks like they released some newer firmware that fixes the deadzone hours after I jumped on the plane at SEATAC. Bastards.

That is from the Grand Prix of Baltimore. I was there that day. Hitting that car probably saved his life.

I'm really enjoying this months challenges, but I'm not seeing too many times posted by club members.

I just got this game for Christmas, and got a nice start. But I have been majorly distracted by Red Dead Redemption. I will try get some times posted tonight. Of course, I really suck, so it's not like I am taking any prominent places on even our car club's leader boards.

as of earlier today, you should be able to make the top 3 on the drift challenge easily, though that's not saying much

After a long break I just tried to jump back in and now I'm having weird issues with my wheel double-shifting and then acting like I'm barely pressing the throttle. I've had a few drinks so I'm trying to not totally fly off the handle but I'm just about done with Forza.

You don't have the pedals concurrently hooked up to a live PC via USB, do you?

My first rage quit in a long time last night. I'm a pretty patient guy and have had plenty of moments where I've shut it down because I was a bit out of form on the day but was genuinely sweary and chucked a full blown tantrum trying to set a clean lap when sharing the Extreme track with the AI.

Just hold your fricken line you idiot!!
Why did you move there!!

OH FFS that was just a full on dick move of ramming me as I went past WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!

Rewind it right on a corner - half the time the AI can't get a grip when you come back and they go flying off into the corners.

"I GUESS THAT WOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED IF YOU HADN'T RAMMED ME 5 SECONDS AGO, GUY!"

I have to wonder, when I go to Autovista for its gallery of incredible and beautiful supercars, and see a hatchback Tiburon, if Turn 10's heart is really in it. Poor Peter Egan wastes most of his time talking about Rhys Millen Racing's past successes with other Hyundais, once he's done telling me this car has brakes, and is missing a door.

I don't mind cross-promotion, especially in a game whose sole subject is actual consumer products, but if one area of the game has been staked out with a specific intent then a little integrity would be nice.

Personally, I'm still upset at the fact that there are cars in Autovista *without* commentary from Jeremy Clarkson.

There's always YouTube.

ALMS car pack available February 7th. This is just odd. None of those cars in the pack are actually in the American Le Mans series. The Panoz used to run in 2008, but not in that form. The Audi TDI is a European Le Mans car that only races with ALMS at Sebring and Road Atlanta as part of the International series. All the rest have nothing to do with ALMS.

I guess I was expecting the Porsches to suddenly appear when I saw the name of the pack. Pipe dream:-(

ALMS "and friends"? I know I want that Audi quattro S1, but I'm almost willing to bet real money it will be pack-only.

Oddly enough, I was thinking more of this.

Decided I'd fire this up today.

Don't think I have the patience for it.

I still hate the AI, and find a number of the rivals events stupid because you're competing for lap times that put value on a clean lap, but then throw slow traffic in and you clearly don't have cars bunched up in the same places as the driver you're competing against. Nothing quite as stupid as being faster than a ghost for basically an entire lap, and then losing out on time in the last turn every single lap because the slower cars bunch up there and take up the whole road, and then watching the competing ghost slide right through all the slower traffic because it wasn't even there when he ran the event.

Happened 12 laps in a row on one event. Destroyed the ghost car for the entire course every single time, and then lose full seconds in the last turn because traffic's bunched up there for me when it wasn't for him.

I quit shortly after.

It's been long enough now that I no longer know all the tracks anyway, and I don't have it in me to re-learn them. At least not right now.

Disappointing.
