PAX East 2012 Catch All & GWJ Meetup

I've been to a few conventions in my time, so I can tell it was photoshopped know how it feels at the end of the day. Nonetheless, my last Otakon my hotel was roughly a mile from the convention center and I managed to survive all that walking. And that was through Baltimore, where any second I could get stuck with a random encounter get stuck with a shivgee.

So 1.5 miles might not be SO bad.

But if felt soooo goood. There were a bunch of bottlenecks in the expo last year, hopefully that's not the case this time.

I sincerely hope they spread out the actual show floor more this year. The "cafeteria" side of the building was 90% empty just about the entire time, yet the booths were all crammed together, with barely any room to walk the alleys in between.

That would be nice. I wonder if they plan on moving the board game stuff to that side of the bridge and expand the expo hall to that entire half of the building. The food court area was completely desolate.

Pro tip: For late night munchin' go to the Sam Adams counter/bar/thingy. Open late-late, good food, and very reasonable prices for what you get. Ohh almost forgot, beer.

And walnuts!

That information would have been useful last year, when one of my College friends dragged us through Boston to try and find this SFX360 party, and by time we got there it was full of club-going types so we turned around.

It turns out Boston on a Friday night is pretty dead as there wasn't any place to get food around midnight. Not even friggin' McDonald's.

EDIT: Pyroman, according to this map, there's only two hotels all that close to the convention center, and I know by now those are the two that are full.

So at this point, there's going to be plenty of walking or shuttles, unless you plan on switching over to Anime Boston so you can be near the Hynes instead.

Expedia's hotels are all over $200 a night, Priceline isn't much better.

So I'll be going off of the PAX website, and the option is to walk 1.5, 1.7 or 1.8 miles. I'll get a conversation started with you and Cyrax on Gmail.

I have decided I am going to make a pnp set of the Dune board game to bring. It should be fun!

Hahaha-huh? Well we only have room in the basement at this time. That being said I am getting kind frustrated with my job and maybe I could come live with you? Got any ME/CAD designer jobs out your way?

If your serious I could ask where I work.

I was mostly joking but we can still play Dune!

Do we have to bring our own Still-Suits?

I'm not going to let you drink out of mine! When it comes to drinking sweat and piss I'm not comfortable with sharing.

I am planning to use wood chips with printed stickers too.

Friday:
VGO
Protomen
Metroid Metal
Minibosses

Saturday:
Supercommuter
Paul & Storm
Jonathan Coulton
MC Frontalot

I am psyched for Metroid Metal!

You beat me to it, Slumberland. Thank you.

Woo concerts! Am I the only one who wishes they would get more of a rotation for East like they do with Prime? That's nearly the same lineup they've had the last two years. I'm sure there's some logisitical constraints involved and all, and I probably shouldn't be whining since that's two excellent sets.

Also baffling is the lack of Freezepop 3rd year in a row given this is going on in Harmonix's backyard.

The Harmonix guy who was with Freezepop is no longer a member.

The thing I hate about PAX is that since Jonathan Coulton always plays it, he never plays a Boston show that's not PAX anymore. Those of us who don't want to go to the convention don't get to see him around here anymore, and that's very sad.

Bah, I won't be happy until they drag Machinae Supremacy out of Sweden and have them play at PAX.

Now that would be something to see.

Ah that would explain the lack of Freezepop. Granted, the first year they did play across the street at one of the clubs which was a lot of fun.

I would kill to see The OneUps on a big stage though. I've seen them twice now in smaller venues and they always deliver a great set.

If you have a car, it's not that hard to get out to Springfield or Western MA. Demyx and I have seen him in Great Barrington and Northampton in the last two years.
