Fallout: New Vegas - Fall 2010

Aaaand finished. Blitzed through to the end. Couldn't finish off the Brotherhood stuff due to the aforementioned Boomers Shelling Me Any Time I Was In Range Despite The Fact I Was Idolized bug but screw it.

Started yet another playthrough of this game the other day...

At this point I think I might need professional help to stop playing. Some of the newer mods are interesting, yet far too many dont play nicely with the nexus mod manager anymore.

Anyone know if the guy who makes the Bounties mods is going to release part 3? I assume since it didnt get released before skyrm that is dead, but I can still hope.

Every time I see this thread reappear, I'm reminded that I still need to finish the Lonesome Road and Dead Money. Bah, so many games I have to finish.

The nice thing about the Fallout DLC though is that you can do most of it in a sitting or three over a weekend. I think both of these only run 7 to 10 hours depending on how much of a loot whore/achievement whore you are

Finishing this one was an exercise in pile clearance. There's no way I'm firing up any DLC.

Well I really enjoyed it. Put well over 100 hours into it and was happy to keep playing it, but BF3 came out and it got away from me.

I really want to finish off those last 2 DLC's but I've committed myself to finishing Bejeweled 3, SPAZ and Portal 2 first. Once I've finished those, I'll finish these 2 DLC, then off to Batman AC.

I've got the extra weapon pack too, so that should keep it fresh for me.

You've played the better two dlc already, if that changes your mind.

I still haven't gotten around to Lonesome Road, but no way in hell is Honest Hearts better than Dead Money.

Dead Money was way better than Honest Hearts.

Edit: Tannhauser'ed!

Shrug. I thought it was. More varied combat, really dug the survivalist stuff. Way better environment. Lack of b.s. sneaking metal gear stuff.

Nope. I want the full experience.

I think I left my character somewhere in Novac, so it will be interesting to see if I can just jump back in and pick this up from where I left off. I may end up starting a new character.

Dead Money is worth going back for but not Lonesome Road. I really liked Dead Money's story and feel but even though I have 600 hours in Fallout I only played that one DLC once. I just couldnt go back there a second time.

OWB is the one DLC in that family that is a must play.

Knocked off the last of the gun runner challenges achievements over the weekend. Killing Cazadors with Long Fuse Dynamite was definitely an interesting experience. Won't be looking to do that again.

Now I only have 10 achievements left. 5 for Dead money and 5 for Lonesome Road. Think I'll head over to Dead Money first then save Lonesome Road for the end. Really enjoying the GRA weapons too. I walked into the Gammorah casino with Sleepy Time (unique 10mm SMG) and that was fun. Bullets and dead Gammorah dudes everywhere.

I really dug the aesthetics of Lonesome Road; it had that blasted-out-husk-of-a-city feel that first drew me to Fallout all those years ago. It brought it back in a way much of New Vegas proper didn't. That said, all the stuff with the "other courier" I could not have cared less about; nice idea, but it didn't seem to coalesce into anything of substance. Old World Blues, though, now that brought the awesome.

I'm waiting for the GOTY edition before I even try Dead Money; I also plan on getting it for the 360, as my PC is just not reliable enough to play New Vegas well (as with Skyrim). The prospect of playing it all over again, on a new platform, with some DLC that I haven't even touched in all my 150 or so hours is getting me excited in very special way...

Well they just announced Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition. Which includes everything they have released for Fallout New Vegas.

I have all of the DLC but lost my save. My motivation to go back and play the game through for the DLC is very low. Tempted, but low.

That's what I'm waiting for.

This man speaks the truth. Lonesome Road features the best New Vegas level design; care taken to environment, atmosphere, cluttering, a calling back to the ruined, blasted-out wreck of civilization that called us here in the first place. In almost every area, you can look around and find very few objects half sunk in the ground, and an attention to detail. You get the impression that (unlike many of the vanilla areas of New Vegas) someone filled those burned halls and destroyed buildings with personal affection and care. It resonates with the loss and the waste that really make the Fallout series notable. Crouching in a partially collapsed building while the dust rains down, the shrieks and howls of tunnelers in the distance is memorable. Yet, when it came to the story and the characterization; it didn't quite make it. I first found the other courier's dialog to be intriguing, maddeningly vague yet alluring. As it went on it just seemed needlessly obtuse and tiring. There were two great ideas there that never really met in the middle. It makes me wonder if it had a troubled development cycle; there's so many good ideas, and so many underdeveloped ones, it's a bit of a curiosity.

So after Skyrim I came back to the Mojave for a DLCstravaganza, and so far, I'd agree that Lonesome Road is probably the best bit of DLC. Old World Blues is absolutely fantastic as well, and I really, really enjoyed Honest Hearts, but I'm very, very biased on that.

Spoiler:

It's the post-apocalyptic Mormons, for crying out loud. Of course I loved it :D

Which brings me to Dead Money. I'm doing this one last,

Spoiler:

and chose to leave my organs in the Big MT during OWB, so I have the spineless perk which is supposed to keep me from being poisoned... but it doesn't work in Dead Money. Seriously? That is utterly aggravating.

So, for those of you who enjoyed Dead Money.. is there a trick to dealing with the gas, since the one I was counting on didn't work?

I'm playing Dead Money now as well. Almost finished it. Trick with the gas is to simply avoid it. Or run through it really fast, then use food and stimpacks to get your health back.

Personally, I'm not really enjoying dead money. Takes ages to kill those stupid ghost hunters, I've got areas sectioned off from me exploring because of some stupid red cloud and i have to look out for crappy beeping radios that cause my head to explode.

Like I enjoy sneaking and exploring and using highly powerful weapons. This feels like it's missing all of that. I can't sneak or explore and the weapons suck. I mean really, a shiny knife. Ooh, hold me back!

Once you get guns, the Ghost People aren't so bad, but I'm also going in fairly high level, in my mid 30s now. I'm actually almost done with it, but the section I'm in right now has invisible freaking radios and it's really pissing me off.

Well I'm level 31 but only have 50 in guns. I typically use the police pistol as it has the most ammo. But man, if you can't get a sneak critical, it just takes ages.

The feel of it just feels off to me. I much prefer the super high tech stuff versus the survival horror element, so I guess that's probably why.

I'm definitely on board with disliking it, but to me the DLC just feels really disjointed. I managed to get past the earlier stuff, but now I'm stuck with no save to really fall back on, and the game is bugged out and not in a fixable way. I am just really, really, really pissed off at how poorly Dead Money was executed, it's just friggin awful.

And for those wondering...

Spoiler:

I'm at the end, and I got greedy. I took all the gold bars, successfully snuck out of the vault, around to the doors and Elijah bugged inside the force fields. So now I can't kill him and I can't get to the elevator and *nothing* is progressing.

edit - Done. Glad to be done with it, bleh.

Finished it as well. Really didn't like it. Radio beeping and stupid holograms you couldn't kill. No thanks.

5 achievements left. All of them are lonesome road. Going to give it a break for a day or two and then try that one. Hopefully it's decent.

It is better than Dead Money but still something of a slog to get through. Go loaded for bear.... well forget the bears (they were in Honest Hearts) go loaded for deathclaws.

Done. Completed. 100%. Every last damn achievement is done.

Lonesome road was actually fun. It was nice opening up a container and finding useful equipment instead of a bent tin can or a paper weight. Overall, I've really enjoyed Fallout New Vegas. It was a fun adventure. But I'm glad it's over.

As a new comer, how much time do you think I'll be in the game to complete it? (Complete = Done the main story once, maybe adventure in DLCs from time to time.)

I've got 55+ hours on my last manual save, which is 3 (real world) days before my last quick save.

It really depends on how many side quests you want to do. I wouldn't be surprised if you could do the main story in 20 hours.

I did the main story in about 35 hours on my first playthrough. That included a reasonable amount of sidequests (mostly achievement-related ones) but no DLC.
