Blood Bowl: GWJ Slap & Tickle League

Ok, I have setup two leagues in game: GWJ Tickle League 1 and GWJ Tickle League 2. I will be sending each of you a PM on the boards letting you know which league to apply for, and the password for that league. Additionally, if you look at the 3rd post in this thread, you will see where everyone was assigned. (I used a random number generator to assign everyone to a league)

Due to having 14 teams, I put 7 teams in each league. Now, with the game software, we are required to have an even number of teams in a league, so I made each league 8 teams. I will be inserting a dummy team into each league. When your team gets to the part in the schedule where you will play the dummy team, I will score that game as a win for your team. So, each team essentially gets a "bye week" during the season.

Each of the 2 Tickle leagues will have 4 playoff teams. The 2 teams that advance to their league's championship game will automatically be included into next season's Slap league. That still leaves 2 more openings for the Slap league, so out of the first round playoff losers from each league, the one that had the best regular season record will also advance to the Slap league, bringing the Slap league up to 6 teams for next season.

I hope I didn't confuse anyone too much. If you have any questions, please let me know.

The Clan of Urist are ready for action!

Strike the Earth!

I'm really excited for this.

Why not just have a 14 league team? I'm sure there is a way to set it up that we don't need to play everyone in the league to advance... or make it an open league and you dictate schedules rather than the software.

Applied for the league with the D'Kow War Rats. Looking forward to playing against humans for a change

Nope, the only options for a 14 team league is 1 pool of teams, that can either play each other once round robin or twice round robin. So, that's a minimum of 13 games played; I'm trying to keep regular seasons to between 5-10 games. I hate to ask for longer commitments, as we are all busy people here, and things can (and will) come up. I briefly thought about doing a single elimination tournament, but the software doesn't allow 14 team tournaments. As far as an open schedule; Yeah, that's possible, but it's more administrative work on my part, and I don't think the possible gains by doing it that way are enough to justify it. I could squeeze a couple more games in there doing it that way, but then a team's schedule could by unbalanced because maybe they had to play more of the experienced coachs here. I'd rather that the teams competing for a spot in the Slap league all have the same schedule. While the setup I have isn't ideal, it seemed like the best (and fairest) way to do it.

So, there's a glimpse into the workings of my mind. Hope you all survived without any permanent mental damage.

So, who is playing what team?

I'm leaning towards Dark Elves.

I haven't decided yet. I started with Orcs because I heard they were a good beginner team but I want to branch out. Any suggestions?

Probably going Orcs just because I haven't played in forever and they are pretty forgiving.

I'm going to try a Norse team, as I rarely see them being played, so I'd like to try something different. Plus, Oily told me to!

You could go in an entirely different direction and do an Elf team or something. If you'd like to keep it simple (meaning bashy), I think I read somewhere that Chaos is a good team once you get some skills.

Lars will you be able to control 2 teams in a league? I don't think it will let you?

I set up a test league last night, and was able to put 2 teams that I own into that test league, so I assume it should work. Guess we shall find out!

Amazons aren't bad. Everyone has dodge, which helps when you're out of place. They're a little fragile, but you can't have everything. And I've heard good things about undead as a beginner's team, but they didn't work right with my brain.

I was going to try either Norse or Amazon and with Lars choosing the former, I've applied with the latter.

I love Undead for a fairly well balanced team leaning to bashy. Amazons are great but many rookie coaches make the mistake of using them as a dodgy team. They're a Bashy team that can dodge, remember that.

I apologize in advance for the terrible puns and meme references in my player names. It was that or autogenerated names.

Isn't that part of the point of Blood Bowl?

Every player on my team is named Urist!

Spoiler:

They do however, have various apellations after Urist Mc*

I updated the league rosters with the teams that have applied and been accepted into the leagues. Looks like we just have 5 people that have to join before we can start. I'm glad to see we have some different team types so far. We have 2 Norse teams, 2 Amazon teams, a Skaven, Ogre, Dark Elf, Nurgle, and a Dwarf team. Should be some interesting matches.

Ok, we are now down to only 3 teams that need to be added: thejustinbot, Cayne, and *Legion*. Once a league is full, I will get it going, and matches can start.

And application sent full of horrible pun names.

I'll be applying tonight once i get home.

Sounds good. I can probably get league 1 started up tonight then, just have to get *Legion* in before league 2 can launch. If I don't get anything from him tonight, I'll send him a little reminder tomorrow.

Ok, all teams in Tickle league 1 have applied, so I started the season. Check the 3rd post for this week's games. Still waiting on *Legion*, so I'll send him a PM now reminding him.

thejustinbot, what times are good for you to get our match in?

Looks like tonight from 9-11, Thursday 10-11 or Saturday after 7 would be my best bets this week. All times EST.

Signed up.

Knightsaber - When are you free to play? I'm pretty flexible at the moment so just let me know and I will try and work to your needs. Just a quick remember that I am in Britain so I am +5 EST.

Sweet. Your team has been added, and the schedule has been generated. I've updated the 3rd post with the schedule for league 2.

Do you want to shoot for Thursday at 10?

Thursday at ten works fine for me.
