I know I'm newish here and all, but get out.

Please educate me as to the good movies he's been in, and I will.

Conan the Barbarian, Total Recall, True Lies and Predator to name but a few.

Last Action Hero

Julia Roberts sucks, though. I see her name and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt we're going to be treated to a cold, condescending, sneering Female Doggo who's going to fly off the handle and deliver some form of shouting match berating of someone.... bleh. It's especially bad when she's introduced as if her character is supposed to be beautiful and desirable, like in Oceans Eleven. Seriously? These guys are fighting over her? I'm sure either guy could throw their cell phone and hit someone better looking and with a better personality.

I feel the same way. Every character she plays has something very guarded and tightly wound about them. It makes you suspect that it's a deep facet of her own personality, and not some acting quirk. I get the same thing out of Kate Hudson, Cameron Crowe movies aside.

I feel like some of these names need exceptions attached:

The Robin Williams exception:

Any movie of his that is not a comedy.

The Will Ferrell exception:

Every movie I've seen him in where he cameos or has a very minor part has been spectacular and he's been really funny.

Get out of this thread. That's one of the worst movies in Ahnold's entire film career.

See? He gets it.

I'd like to congratulate Queen Latifah for not making this list thus far.

I can't help but have a soft spot for that film, probably since I was around the same age as the kid sidekick when I first watched it. I could still quote you the whole Hamlet scene word for word.

Ditto, especially as a TV Troper, that movie is like a Trope museum.

"Gets" what? That bad acting can be good? But you're right, Predator is a good movie that manages to minimize Arnie's awfulness.

Predator is John McTiernan at his very 80's best. But the other movies are also situations where the material itself needs a bad actor playing the character to work.

Like True Lies. That movie is pure camp, but it's done right, and Arnold fits in it.

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

That's cool. You're allowed to be wrong

Funny, I almost wrote the same thing.

Great minds think alike and all that. Except when they're wrong about movies.

That's it, INTERNET FIGHT!

FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

I have a pretty simple way to measure if a movie was "good", so I guess it sort of opens my definitions. Although I threw Nicholas Cage up there, he's been in plenty of good stuff as well. I can watch Commando and enjoy every cheesy second of it. The plot is so simple a 4 year old could understand it, it has stereotypes every 3 feet, the one liners border on "Beyond Epic Terribleness" ("...I lied"), and the action is so unbelievable that for Arnold to actually achieve that would defy so many odds the universe would implode.

But it is still pretty fun for me to watch him throw a saw blade through a dude's head.
