NFL 2011 Wild Card Playoff Round

What's telling to me is when you look at the 12 teams in the playoffs and how long most of their coaches have been with those teams. Not all of them have had bad seasons that would get them fired with less patient owners, but outside of the 49ers they are all pretty established coaching bases.

This was Kubiak's first good season, and only his second winning season. The owner stuck with him when it was very unpopular here. People also really bagged on our GM, and suddenly we feel we have great personnel.

Exactly. I know they aren't popular around here but teams like the Steelers have had good success with 3 head coaches in the same time a team like Oakland has had 11 coaches. Teams that are willing to stick with coaches even in leaner years have a better chance of future success.

I think the Steelers are a good example of something which I think is more important to the long-term success of your team, namely front-office leadership. The Rooney family is an amazing group of people, and really embody the right way to run an NFL franchise. Their winning ways attest to that. They work hard to recruit, evaluate, and groom head coaches. I'm going to assume that they spend the same amount of effort in tracking down GMs and personnel staff.

It also doesn't hurt to have one of the best DC's in the league for the past 7 years.

I'm not a fan of Rodney Harrison as a talking head. He's far from the most egregious example of a poor talking head on the planet, but I'm just not a fan for some reason, so every time he's talking about something I tend to sneer in disdain. Okay, that's just a bit hyperbolic.

Hit people...Patriots!!!...QBs...Patriots!!!...hit people...Tom Brady!...Patriots!!!

Yeah, that could be it.

Also, PLAYOFFS! I love the energy of the crowds. Nothing like it that I've ever experienced.

7-7, defense just did a great job of keeping the Bengals out of the endzone, and we got lucky that the kicker missed.

Yeah...very odd use of challenges.. that last one was most bizzare.. not sure what Marvin was looking at.

Cincinnati has used both their challenges with 4:33 left to play in the 2nd quarter, that may come back to bite Lewis, especially since he didn't win either one of them.

Houston starting to take control of this game. Mistakes will kill you, and so far, Cincinnati has made them with the 2 wrong challenges and the missed field goal.

Holy crap, that's' one of the best defensive plays I've seen.

Holy crap that is some god awful music they are playing at the stadium.

f*ck YEAH f*ck YEAH f*ck YEAH!!!!!

Ladies and gentleman, the Bengals.

Edit: Ok. That's not really fair. That was a freakish catch.

TheWalt and I are lovin' this shizz.

Matt Shoob?

No kidding, right? I know he's not Brady, but he's been a starter for a while now...

Hot motherfudging damn!

Can the Bengals possibly make more mistakes? They are just giving the game away. At least they did try to go for it on 4th and 3 instead of being cowards, but other than that it doesn't look much like they want to win.

Some of y'all picked Cincinatti, huh.

And game.

I wonder where we'd be if that Bengals player had picked off that pass.

I'm not sure Gregg Williams knows how to not blitz.

That was quick.

Things I learned tonight that I did not know before: you can award possession of a ball recovered after the whistle has blown.

And... game.

Took a little while to get to this game state but this game is ending about the way I thought, as a big win for the Saints.

Texan level of cockiness is reaching Steeler like proportions.

Well it won't last. I'm scared as hell of the Ravens. I hope the team doesn't feel that way.

Funny story today, I walked into my local pizzeria to pick up an order, wearing a Giants shirt. The guy behind the counter smiled really big, and told me to "have a good weekend, Go Falcons."

I smiled as well, and then politely asked him who the Eagles were playing this weekend, so I knew who I was supposed to root for.

He stopped smiling.
