Assassin's Creed Revelations

I think it may be on XBLA according to the 'news' in Multiplayer but last time I looked I didn't see it.

Finished up chapter 3. 18 hours logged so far and I'm loving this game. I'm really enjoying the challenges. It's fun to see 2 groups of 4 guards and just drop a cherry bomb to lure, then a stink bomb, then leap in there and go to town.

Now to perfect my zip line assassinations...

Also finished all the bomb missions. They are quite fun. I really enjoyed that character.

Mosh Pit was a fun achievement

I picked up the Master Assassin Armour too. Not sure I like it though as I can't change my robe colour.

Had a wonderful moment in Wanted mode tonight on the Venice level. The round started and my entire team hid in the same room, getting that wonderful +50 bonus. I was swiveling the camera, looking for our pursuers, when one-by-one they popped up in each of the "open" windows to our room. All of our pursuers stayed on their respective ledges, crouching for just a moment. It was REALLY CREEPY, especially cos they were playing as the masked dude who you unlock through the SP campaign, who's already pretty creepy. That feeling of tension was great!

Trying to get all of the accolades in MP, but I seriously doubt I'll ever get a kill streak high enough to unlock the ability to kill someone from a distance (the "hack the animus" ability? I think?). If I do it'll definitely be one of those fluke rounds, not something I can gain from practice....

It was indeed

It's really disappointing when you are anticipating what the new colour you chose will look like, only to find it makes no difference at all.

Nice.

Double XP in multiplayer this weekend. I'm hurtling towards level 50. Yay!

The more I play the multiplayer the better it gets. All the little changes and tweeks (may of which seemed a bit pointless) are turning out to be very smart additions to the game. I love the fact that you get different kill animations depending on what level of exposure the killer has. Kill from incognito and you get a quick stab to the chest. Kill running at top speed towards your victim and they see a slow motion leap and a dagger/sword/spear being plunged through their chest.

Just finished this in a svelte 13 hours. Funny how quick these games can be if that's what you pursue.

I need to look up a sparknotes version of the series' story, despite having finished all four games. Probably the Desmond side-stuff videos, too.

I feel a little bad about doing so little of the open-world activities, but I don't have the patience to do so every year. I think I put 45 hours into Brotherhood, which I think is a better game. Going through and making all the little icons disappear has stopped feeling rewarding. The tomb type levels and story stuff are what I play these for, now. I don't think they will, but they should shake the formula up for next year's entry.

Haven't played ACR yet, and that's one of the reasons I'm in no hurry. A game shouldn't be boring or feel like work.

I think Ubisoft have both upsides and downsides from this. On one hand, it's selling well every year, and they're probably getting a lot of reuse which makes yearly instalments possible and the bean counters happy. On the other it does seem like how the AC series developed got away from them, a trilogy with a trilogy in the middle, and they did string it out a bit far. Perhaps AC:B and AC:R were meant to be expansions to AC2 that outgrew themselves in terms of content and story.

Five big AAA games in five years will be quite an achievement, but I think enthusiasm for any game like it will be all used up by the time they're done.

I think I'll be enthusiastic until they finish the story, but only for the mainline portions, unless they shake things up. I feel like a big part of their problem (or open world games in general) is that for all the character building and wealth accumulation, there is never a need for it. You can beat these games using the basic armor and weapons without breaking a sweat. I think they could take a lesson in itemization and usage from The Legend of Zelda, actually.

To pick a nit, it wouldn't be five in as many years - AC2 was two years after AC1.

I finally dug into the ACR multiplayer tonight. Between Skyrim and SW:TOR I never quite managed to put the disc in, despite how much I enjoyed the ACB multiplayer. Is anyone still playing on the 360? I'm liking the changes I've noticed so far. I particular like how the "sprinting killer" tactic is far less effective when it comes to the score. Now I just need to figure out how some of the other modes work.

I just read on wikipedia there is a "guild" for MP, guess that's a way to say Clan or group.

I just received copies for the Xbox.. Is there a goodjers group?

I haven't seen anything about guilds in multiplayer. I suspect that's just fluff for character customization, but I don't really know.

Humm, how do I get a sig for my xbla to show people? Well, I wanna friend some goodjers.

I'm at 39 hours and just reached chapter 7. Doesn't feel like work to me. I've really enjoyed the game look forward to being able to finish it off once I get my internet connection back up and running.

UbiDRM, or other problems?

My ISP. Apparently something happened at the exchange.

Casktapper, Manach,

Send me a FR (nel e nel) for XBL sessions. I have a regular Thursday night group that I play with, and we'll get an impromptu session every now and then.

Finished. Got to say, this time around I think the best course of action is just to plough through the story and skip a lot of the side stuff (to maybe go back to afterwards). Dind't care too much for the "Desmond" stuff...too much like a poor man's portal with not enough of a reward for working through each of the memories.

Personally - quite liked the ending, even though there's not much in the way of "revelations" unless you've not being paying attention in the previous AC2 games Ties up lots of loose ends and sets everything up nicely ready for AC3 I think.

And holy hell are the credits looooooooooooong.

I wish getting into a multiplayer game on PC were easier. I may have to boot up the Brotherhood multiplayer and see if I have better luck there. Why does nobody play multiplayer on PC!!! Why?!?!?!

That is, of course, a rhetorical question.

That is, of course, a rhetorical question.

I'll take a stab at a rhetorical answer.

For reasons like this, I wish developers would stop making their own silos that don't talk to each other on PC. Admit that it's not XBL or PSN with 'one gaming network to rule them all' and allow yourselves to share your player data with other networks. Admit that a PC is not a dedicated gaming device that is only in 'games mode' and work outside of your own games.

Let steam know that I'm in a game on ACB and give my friends a way to join up, let origin know I'm playing TF2. Having said that, most developers and publishers can't even 'talk' between their own games and clients, or use a shared friends lists, etc, but it's nice to dream. Steam/steamworks is the only thing that's remotely close for PC right now.

That would definitely go a long way, and I'm all for sharing of that information across networks.

Being non-rhetorical, I think the reality here is just the DRM ghost haunting the PC version of Revelations, and the fact that most people don't buy AC games for the multiplayer (not by my un-scientific count anyway). Sharing across networks wouldn't help in this case, I think there just aren't many people playing AC multiplayer in general. I recall it being pretty tough to get a match in AC:B back on 360 as well.

Speaking personally, I see it as chicken and egg. I'm not happy to buy something for multiplayer if the systems surrounding the multiplayer are half baked. My experiences with ACB PC multiplayer weren't great, and I spent far too long web browsing in the steam overlay waiting for matches. The thing I find perplexing is that these games aren't trivial investments by their publishers, multiple million dollars to make, and they can't even be bothered matching functionality that has been around for over a decade.

This is more of a general rant now.

I agree the multiplayer would be improved with better integration. As it stands I have no issues with it that would prevent me from being happy, except that I can't find a match after 7:00 PM, which is precisely the time when I would like to find a match.

As good as AC multiplayer may be, one thing I can't help is holding back Ubi from making it (and it's systems) all it can be is that they expect AC to be an annual release win a big $50-60 (or local currency equivalent) box. Why make something that's going to get established for years, when you want to replace it fully in 12 months time. That's kind of why I'd love games like Battlefield to be lots of parts that bolt together in any combination with a common base, rather than relying on a annual box the publisher wants to sell you and forget about that game you bought last year. I wonder if Starcraft2 getting an expansion will make others try to imitate how they handle multiplayer, as I don't think they're going to split things majorly.

I dunno, if CoD can sustain an annual $60 boxed title, then why can't AssCreed?

According to NPD Group, Assassin's Creed: Revelations was the fourth-best selling game in the U.S. in November 2011. Ubisoft announced sales of Revelations were up 10 percent year-on-year on 2010's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. That puts Revelations first month total at around 1.26 million. Revelations debuted at second place in the UK video game sales chart in its first week. Its week one numbers were better those of its predecessor Brotherhood by four percent in unit terms and eight percent in revenue, making it the best performing title both in the series and in Ubisoft's history to date. 61 percent of the game's sales occurred in the first 24 hours.

For what it's worth, Ubisoft also expects the sales of Revelations to drop off quicker than the previous installments as well.

As for Brotherhood matchmaking on PC, don't fret too much, it was a pain on Xbox as well, and was the only thing that kept me from going back to it on a regular basis. It's much better in Revelations.

I think the problem is that most people who get the Assassin's Creed series is due to single player. I know I do. Multiplayer looks interesting and I know there are people who enjoy it, but I just find that if I have a hankerin' for some multiplayer, then I'll jump into BF3. Something that is pretty much designed from the ground up as a multiplayer game.

Also, 61% of game sales in the first 24 hours doesn't surprise me as a lot of people would have been dissuaded by the negative reviews. I'm glad I didn't listen to them as I've really enjoyed the game so far. It still feels like brotherhood but with some extra goodies. Yes, it's definitely lighter on the story and I think Brotherhood was better in terms of story. But, that being said, the gameplay in Revelations is a great deal of fun.

Guess that's how? PM me!

I wasn't talking about Brotherhood matchmaking on PC, I was talking about Revelations. Past about 6 or 7 PST every single category has low activity, and even getting into a Deathmatch can be a 10+ minute wait. It is what it is though, I'll just get used to browsing the web while waiting for a match.

Was able to find a game rather quick on xbox... But to my experience, people do buy Multiplayer game on pc that are somewhat cheaper than the 50$ mark.. which is currently setup for Revelations, unless it is an express game made with multiplayer in mind.

I've noticed a lot more level 10 to 20 players in my games, so I think the Steam sale definitely increased the number of PC players. I'm in the same boat as BlackSabre though, I think people just don't generally buy AC for multiplayer, and the PC version is probably hurt even further because of the whole DRM thing (even though said DRM is now gone).
