Out with the New and In with the Old

Pages

Welcome back to the new and improved (well, maybe not improved, but increased) pile thread. I managed to hit a few of my goals for 2011, but I didn't do so well keeping the new pile titles to a minimum. I hope some of you had better luck.

If you're interested, m0nk3yboy, has the 12 month pile plan thread over here.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Pick's of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the Google doc I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

Bastion

IMAGE(http://www.thunderboltgames.com/s/img600/bastion360.jpg)

"The game takes place in the aftermath of the Calamity, a catastrophic event that suddenly fractured the city of Caelondia and most (if not all) of the game's world into many pieces, disrupting its ecology and turning most of its people into fragile statues. Players take control of The Kid, a silent protagonist who awakens on one of the few remaining pieces of the old world and sets off for the titular Bastion, where everyone agreed to go in troubled times. The only survivor he meets there is an elderly man named Rucks, who instructs him to collect the Cores which once powered Caelondia. A device in the Bastion can use the power of the crystalline Cores to create landmasses and structures, as well as enable the Kid to travel farther afield via "Skybridges" which propel him through the air. Rucks acts as the narrator throughout the game, revealing plot background and describing the Kid's actions in real-time." (wikipedia.org)

Deus Ex (PC) is going down this month. For real.

When I finish Saints Row 3 my next game is going to be Fear (PC). That seems that should be old enough to be pile of shamey.

I was totally planning on finally installing a bunch of Steam titles I purchased over the last 3 years and knocking a couple out this month, but then SW:TOR happened...

SW:TOR is the worst thing to happen to my pile at the moment as well

However - I've still got a week of holiday time left to go, so that gives me a bit of leeway for the next few days at least. Let's do this thang...

Going by my Backloggery page I'll add F-three-ar (sorry, Fear 3) which I'm struggling through at the moment...at least it's supposed to be short. Also still got to go back to The Blackwell Trilogy : Legacy, which I hit a dead end in but was really enjoying.

What is a synonym for vanquish? Because I am going to do that to Vanquish on 360.

I'm going to start with Bastion and go from there. I expect I'll add something else.

I think I'm going to start with Fallout New Vegas on PC.

I'll start the year by finally finishing out my 360 backlog. All I have to do is beat Tomb Raider: Underworld. I'll also begin work on the Back to the Future (PC) series, starting with Episodes 1 and 2 this month.

I'll got with DX:HR for my game this month. Skyrim and SWTOR have almost eliminated any other game playing, but I'd really like to get through this great game.

Soul Calibur on xbl, The Bigs on 360, and I will finish my first play through in Mass Effect 2

Does Xenoblade Chronicles count for the Wii? Even though it's not out in the States until February I am playing the EU version of it, which came out over 3 months ago. If so, that's my big selection for this month.

Carrying over The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (multi). The save file says 60%, so it shouldn't take that much longer barring any really frustrating sections (of which there have already been one or two).

Also: Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge HD (PC)

Having trouble drumming up the enthusiasm to commit to anything else at this point.

Man I loved that game, for some reason it was just the perfect hack n slash for me at the time.

Found the final level a bit frustrating though.

Happy New Year! I'm going for Divinity II- The Dragon Knight Saga (multiplatform, but I'm playing on the 360).

Going to try to finish Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (hubby has promised me "selfish time" and will watch the little one while I play) on the PS3.

I'll throw in Metroid: The Other M..........I've been swiffering it for far too long in the "still playing" pile. It needs to collect dust in the finish pile now.

Put me down for Bastion and Renegade Ops (both inferno and coldstrike). I'm playing both on the PC.

How long is Bastion? The leveling seems to be going really slow.

I have a blog going for my pile, and I also include movies, TV shows, and books. It's a testament to my geekdom, I suppose, that I go through video games faster than anything else.

That is quite interesting, a very cool way to go about it.

Nice, and adding to my RSS reader! I was contemplating doing something similar but I want to see how much progress I can make in a month before I seriously consider writing about it.

Still working on Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks on the DS.

Soul Calibur has been defeated

I'm going to go for Red Faction:Armagedon.

I feel like I should play something that I bought recently just to appease my girlfriend and justify the obsession with Steam. So, from my pile, I'll choose a couple:

Trine
Trine 2
Portal
The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom
Dawn of War 2
Company of Heroes
Blocks That Matter
Rochard
Mass Effect 2
Orcs Must Die
The Binding of Isaac
Rock of Ages
Terraria
Jamestown
Magicka
Braid
Osmos
Max & the Magic Marker
Machinarium
Puzzle Agent
Puzzle Agent 2

Also, does anyone know how to stop the auto-formatting? The text box acts like I'm pressing ctrl+i whenever I press shift+i.

I've always wondered about and hated that.

This is going to be all business this year, very few new purchases, and the GTASC to get me motivated to see credits roll and move on. Focusing on the 360 for that reason this year, until we get knocked out, so for January:

Neir (endings B, C and D)
Sesame Street, Once Upon a Monster
Vanquish
Deathsmiles (Arcade all 4 characters, twice through, once through 1.1 and twice through MLB with Sakura)

There may be more, but that will do 'for now'.

Vanquish, Lost in Shadow, and Metroid Fusion.

God of War 2 is going down this month, and then I start on GTA: Stories from Liberty City. My list is down to about 10, but since Dragon Age: Origins is on there, that does not mean I'll be clearing it out anytime soon.

In addition to F.E.A.R. (which is above) I am playing Limbo for the first time.

EDIT: Oops, turns out I don't own FEAR (thought I did) so scratch that off-- just Limbo for the moment.

Does thinking you own a game and then discovering you don't count as a success in pile elimination?

It counts as a sure sign you have a problem.
