NBA Season 2011-2012

Tied with 6 sec left, Lebron threw Wade an oop on an inbound pass. The refs comment probably refers to a Lebron and-one that probably should have been two FTs. Tied the gam IIRC.

What happened against the Heat? Didn't see the game.

With the Wolves up 99-96, Lebron had what seemed like one of the more blatant charges I've seen in the NBA up by the free throw line. Instead of having the balls to rightfully call a foul on precious Bron-bron, they called a blocking foul and allowed the shot. It tied the game and completely changed the momentum.

The schedule for the Wolves is just ridiculous. They start with OKC, Milwaukee, Miami, Dallas and San Antonio. All but the Bucks game (the "easy" one) were at home but still that's just unnecessary.

Y'know what never crossed my mind last night? J.J. Barea wasn't playing. God knows he gave the Heat fits in the Finals last year. Would he have been the difference?

The thing about LeBron charging has been a problem for a long time IMO. He gets away with it so frequently that it's become like Shaq's elbow towards the rim. It's completely called the wrong way almost every time and yet he gets away with it. I felt sincerely that what Shaq got away with not only was bad for the NBA but it affected the development of Shaq's game. He was basically encouraged to be as beefy as possible and barrel into people. He wasn't encouraged to develop a Hakeem-like or even Duncan-like post game. He just plowed through people and either got a bucket or the call.

LeBron is in the same boat. Not only is it hurting the league because of how it looks, but it hurts LeBron. If that was called a charge when he charged down the lane at someone he'd be forced to develop a post game or slim down and become more elusive like Pippen was. I hate that kind of stuff. It's pretty much my #1 pet peeve about the NBA. The unfortunate thing is there are so many examples.

- Reggie Miller (and Paul Pierce to a lesser extent) kicking his leg out and drawing contact on a jump shot

- Dwayne Wade (Brandon Roy also did this, as does Kobe) bumping someone taking a step back, shooting a fadeaway and getting an And-1

There are many others. And I don't like any of them.

Just a note which has gone unnoticed by most analysts among the assists: Rubio was shooting .615 from the field coming into tonight's game, .667 from 3.

4/7 tonight, 2/2 from three through 3 and a half. He's taking more shots and getting more aggressive with every game. I think his shooting woes are not quite as advertised.

15-0 run to end the game tonight!

This Bulls Grizz game... 74-32 with 4 mins. left in the third. Kind of wish I'd watched this earlier, to see if this is the Bulls D or the Grizz being awful.

T-Wolves get a big win tonight. That team does look like it will be fun to watch this year, which is a nice change.

Here's a great breakdown of Rubio in the young season so far. Pruiti does some of the best illustrated analysis/breakdown that I've seen of the NBA.

The video at the bottom has a ton of assists from Rubio so far (2 games + 1 preseason).

Man, LeBron can be hard to watch sometimes. He gets in this mode where all he does is drive to the rim and try and draw contact. Barely an attempt made at actually making a basket.

Once again, this year I am frustrated and baffled by ESPN/ABC's lack of NBA coverage. Why would you spend millions of dollars for the TV license just to show one or two games every couple of weeks? I miss when TNT had the license to show games Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Earlier this week I checked my guide and they were showing college basketball on all three ESPN channels AND on ABC, but no NBA. I just don't get it.

I don't think ABC has been showing games every Sunday the past month. It has basically been Friday nights and maybe 1 or 2 Wednesdays from what I have noticed. Thanks for the link though, now that football is over it does look like they are ramping up.

Spurs are retiring Bruce Bowen's jersey. What a joke.

Is the jersey going to be kicking Wally Szczerbiak in the face?

It will just slip under shooters' feet when they jump so they sprain an ankle when landing.

Wrong thread!

Pretty sick at these journos saying Derrick Rose might be a choker all of a sudden. Man.

My new favorite term...well new to me anyway.

Mozgov'd, as in "Blake Griffin just Mozgov'd Kendrick Perkins"

It says something when a dunk is so cool that people still remember who it was over. Last night's was amazing. The way he can extend after being pushed...

Anyone else notice that espn3 is now only available for people who have Time Warner, FIOS or Brighthouse (wtf is that)? Friday night I watched Heat/Knicks on my HTPC. Sunday I tried watching something else, but since I have Comcast I'm no longer eligible. Can't seem to find a press release or anything.

I have Brighthouse. It's a Time Warner subsidiary, I believe.

Hmmm...I just checked again and now the full list of providers is back. Weird.

No, Bright House took over for TW in Florida (and now they are spreading to other areas) but are owned by Advance-Newhouse out of NY. They are the 7th largest cable co. in the U.S. currently, and routinely rank 1st in customer satisfaction surveys. I've had them since 2003, and they are flat out excellent.

Anyone watching the Jeremy Lin show in NY? damn. He dropped 38 against the Lakers tonight, and was basically the main (only?) reason the Knicks won. He barely missed a layup late that would have given him 40. An undrafted, unknown PG out of Harvard. He's about to be big news.

He was an interesting story last year, but I'd say he's already a huge story. In less than one week he went from almost unknown, and tonight he will probably lead sportscenter.

I loved the story about how he sleeps on his brother's couch in NYC because he, like everyone else, couldn't find an apartment.

I've been following the Jeremy Lin story since the Jazz game on Monday. After steady performances across four games (38 points? Insane!), I think we can safely call him legit now. Still, it wasn't just Lin who made all the efforts tonight. Defense from Chandler, Fields, and Jefferies (BTW, love this guy for having so much heart.) significantly dialed down Bryant's output in the first half and pretty much made Bynum a non-entity. I'm a little miffed that Chandler couldn't contribute more points tonight. Lin's been pretty good with feeding Chandler lobs, but Lakers' defense probably made it difficult.

I know I will enjoy watching Knicks vs. Timberwolves tomorrow night. Ricky Rubio is another one of my favorites, and it's just fun to see two capable PGs going up against each other.

I was aware of Lin back at Harvard. He's popped up here and there as a human interest story in sports. Talenteled ball player and the whole Asian-American angle. There was a bit of noise when Golden State picked him up. Partly because he was a fan favorite for a while and partly because some criticized his signing as a cynical gimmick. He had that summer league game against Wall. So he's been interesting to follow for a while. Definitely on my radar.

However when he blew up in that first game he played significant minutes I immediately picked him up in my fantasy league for a not inconsequential sum of money. It really seems like he's the real deal and was searching for the right system. He especially plays well off of Chandler. It will be interesting to see if he can mesh with Melo and Stoudamire.

The Knicks with Lin and without Carmelo (maybe even Stat - remains to be seen) look a lot like the Nuggets. No real "superstars" but a solid all around team. It'll be interesting to see how Carmelo screws this up when he's back from injury.

Yeah, I was thinking that Amare and Carmelo must feel like a couple of jackasses.

I honestly thought a similar thing when the trade was made last year. I still feel like Denver got the better of that trade, taking back a ton of parts they could try out and see how they fit.

The Knicks appear to be better with Lin, and without Melo. I watched a roundtable discussion about this on ESPN the other night, and it was said that Melo is known as a ball hog, and that his return might cripple Lin's efforts. They believe Stoudamire would benefit from, and play well with Lin, but Melo might be a problem. Stoudamire had a good system working with Steve Nash, but Melo is more of a control freak.

Should be interesting. We'll see.

Lin had a disastrous 2nd half the other night, and got brought back to earth a bit. (1 for 13 shooting, 4 TO's in the 2nd half). I hope he bounces back vs Toronto tomorrow.

The basketball jones podcast had a good comparison/point.

More less theres a bunch of guys like this throughout the league that are just held back by lack of minutes to go around. They made a direct comparison to how Ramon Sessions blew up at one point (24 assist game) but has clearly settled back to what he really is.

regardless its a coup by the Knicks to get him for free. Even if he settles back into a bench pg thats a great type of weapon to bring off the bench JJ Barea style to cause havoc. Also takes away all the pressure of Baron Davis rushing back fat/injured and just getting injured and fatter again. At 32 not sure if he ever gets back to previous form but one of his problems was always motivation. If playing in New York on a team that might actually be pretty good doesn't get him going then nothing will.

Yeah I really liked that point by TBJ. Love that podcast!

It's Lin, again.

He lead the Knicks back from down 15 pts at Toronto and drained the game-winning 3-pointer with half a second remaining.

27 pts, 2 for 2 on 3-pointers, and 11 assists. A real nice bounce-back from the prior game.

The Knicks bring it home tomorrow night, vs Sacramento, and have a chance to get back to .500, after being 8-15.
