NCAA12 GWJ2STAR -- Bowls: Leroy's Shame

Pages

Following up on our earlier discussion, let's start up our 2* prestige league. The rules? Only that you pick a team having 2* prestige and try to build it into a contender.

Teams available for this league...

Teams:

Marshall – Zell
Central Michigan – Leroy
Temple – Kush
Colorado State – firesloth
Western Michigan – willhouse
Rice – Bill Bonney / Wi11Nick

According to the Commish, Leroy:

So we are all in the MAC.

The Lambert division: Temple, Rice, Colorado St.
The Schembechler division: CMU, WMU, Marshall

I gave the MAC champion an automatic bid to a BCS game because we are that damn good.

Teams available for the 2* league...

That spreadsheet contains only the 1* and 2* prestige teams in NCAA12. Pick a team and let us know who you choose!

I'm going with Miami of Ohio or Colorado State. I'll play a few games then pick.

Hey, if you need me to be commish, I'll do it for 10 bucks a month.....ok fine, I'll do it for free. Geez....

Temple please. Thank you!

After looking at some of the teams, I think we should exclude:

Hawaii
Baylor
UCLA
N. Illinois
Ole Miss
Southern Miss
Fresno State

All those teams are stacked powerhouses waiting for a human to come in and kick ass with them. Any objections to leaving them to the CPU?

I 2nd the motion to prohibit those teams.

You're on! You're also now responsible for setting up the preseason thread!!

Not really, but I'd like to understand the justification. Is it based on their preseason ranking? Would it be better to exclude teams with overall ratings >80 instead?

Once we get a head count, I'll set up divisions and the league and the sliders and the what nots.

thats basically what I did....they are all overall 84+

I'm going to roll with the Colorado State Rams!

Right now we have teams in the MWC, MAC, C-USA, and Sunbelt conferences. How should we do this? Should we do the out of conference games against human foes? Should we consolidate into one or two conferences?

CSU might fit into C-USA or Sunbelt well, although I was sorta' looking forward to playing the MWC teams.

Do we have any others interested in this approach?

We can do either/or.....Setting up the outta conference games with humans seems like the easiest. But it would make it harder to go up the rankings. If we scramble everything around, we can at least set it up to face some harder teams in the hopes of getting BCS standings in the top 25. I personally would vote for the latter...move our teams into two conference then add in two or three "tough" teams to each schedule. Teams like WVU, VT, TCU, Georgia, ect...

Well, I've already got TCU and Boise St. in the MWC!

If you win a lot, they tend to bump you up naturally...and we shouldn't be winning *too* much in our first year.

I vote for two 2-division conference. Conference championship in each conference, and the two winners play in a bowl game.

What if we fill out the MWC and one other. We could move BSU or TCU into the other conference. That way there'd be at least one chance to make a splash with a big win.

Move Marshall to the MWC...I like playing against the Buffs and Rams...

A note on good 2-star teams. Frequently they have mostly senior talent and recruiting is so brutal that they'll come to earth quickly. In the 2* league for NCAA 11 I chose Nevada. I hoped the fact that they were one of those better teams would lead recruits to Reno. Instead I had a great 1st season and then couldn't convince recruits to come to Reno.

Very true. I remember going 9-3, winning the MAC, and Coach of the Year and getting 0 interest from any 3* talent. It was sad.

that was my problem with the other NCAA league. I went 11-3 with Marshall and got them ranked and everything...still only had two 3* recruits....was really sad.

To be fair, recruits are probably worried you're a flash in the pan coach, Leroy.

Agreed that the second year can be brutal. One of the teams I considered for this league was SDSU. I played a game between SDSU and Colorado State, going back and forth between them. Not only did I like CSU a lot more, but I also noticed that SDSU's whole O-line (nearly) and many of their skill players are seniors. They'll be in a rough spot next season!!

It is true that the first season recruiting was very rough. If you can make it through that second season, though (i.e., if your players don't *all* graduate), things pick up. It's one of the challenges of being a 2* school, I suppose. I found it odd last year going back and forth between the leagues. In one I would barely look at 3* players...in the other I was dying to get them!!

Should we just start this and accrete new players later?

what is accrete?

Sorry, that's the geek in me talking. How about "accrue" or "accumulate" or "gather"?

or "get"

I know that word. :p

I like big words. I support that Firesloth. I'll try and nab a copy this week sometime so I can try it out with the current sliders.

I'll get this league up and running this weekend if I don't get to it tomorrow night. Supposed to be going out the next few nights.

It's called Google, ya lazy f***
(Said completely in jest, for optimal humor value)

Optimal: adj, most desirable or satisfactory
(I got your back Leroy)

Im in for a 2 star league. I will take Western Michigan I think they are a 1 or 2 star

WMU is available and is a 1* school. They're not poorly rated on offense or defense, though. Plus, they have a nice stadium in this game. And they play in K-zoo, where they brew Bell's beers, so they've got that going for them, too.

Nice!

I have family that goes to Western and my friend went to Grand Valley where he said he got spoiled on all the micro brewery beer there.

I may join tonight, let me look over the teams when i get home.

Also doing my recruiting right now.

Nice!

To summarize:

*Teams already spoken for:

Marshall – Zell
Western Kentucky – Leroy
Temple – Kush
Colorado State – firesloth
Western Michigan – willhouse

*Maybe playing:

?? – Bill Bonney / Wi11Nick
?? – DSGamer

With Temple and WMU, that's two MAC teams. Marshall (Zell) has agreed to move to the MWC. We might split TCU and Boise St., putting one in a league with other human players. That way we all have at least one big program on the schedule, if not more. I think we may have our hands full in general. I'd be happy to keep them both in the MWC, though.
