Rocksmith Catch All

Whoa. Local pawn shop had about 50 guitars, half electric, quite a few under $100.
I'll have to go back when they're less busy.

I am still getting used to playing the game. Really wish the riff repeater was better. That is my only real pet peeve about this whole thing. Other wise this is great. Going to be playing an hour or two tonight... I can feel it coming on.

Say what you like about Rocksmith, but I found myself yesterday with an electric guitar, an amp, a great tuner, a new set of picks, a capo, and justinguitar.com open, working my way through chords and generally noodling about. In my mind, that's mission accomplished, even if I never launched RS again on my 360.

Challenge accepted (at some point). Just don't let Podunk in here. That's just cheating.

And I'll likely have to wait until I get my analog audio adapter in from Amazon since the lag on my current HDMI setup is not conducive to rocking hard.

Any suggestions on tuners? I've heard that while the RS one works, you're better off with an actual tuner.

Also, I am officially super-impatiently waiting for tomorrow. Can't get here fast enough. ><

If you have an android (presumably is also on ios), I have the ultimate guitar.com app, and it has a great tuner with it. Amazing what you can get on your handheld these days.

If you mean the GuitarToolkit, then I think there is. Otherwise, no idea.

Anyone have the PC version? Was wondering if it was any "better" than the PS3 or Xbox.

Geez, this is going to take a while. I apparently haven't played enough to unlock enough notes to score anything good. I'm increasing slowly by replaying, but it will be a while since I'm only at 26,000 or so right now. Between loads I'm noodling around with the other notes. You'd think it would recognize my awesomeness and just let me at them.

The RS tuner is fine...

If you have a smartphone, that's the cheapest route to go... I use GarageBand on the iPhone but before that I tried Amplitube and it had a decent tuner. Just hold your guitar up to the mic.

If you're planning on tuning in loud places then maybe you need a dedicated tuner (so you plug your guitar cable directly into the tuner), but there's even guitar adapters for the iPhone (the amplitube guys make one). The best tuner brand out there is probably Korg, anything by them will help, must be like 10-30 bucks for a good quality, affordable tuner.

Good luck with your guitar, just remember everyone sucks the first few months, don't get discouraged =)

The RS tuner works ok for the game. It's not the most accurate tuner. I've been using this korg tuner for years. Does a decent job for quick tuning.

I use a Snark SN-2 for tuning during Rocksmith. You don't have to plug it into your chain and it won't get confused by ambient sound. You could save a couple of bucks with the SN-1 if you don't want the mic and blinky tap metronome (and are okay with the blue.)

Leveling through song repetition is slow. Using the Riff Repeater leveler is much faster, but you start hitting issues with the 5 lives. I hadn't realized what a pain in the ass it was but now that I'm working on more difficult songs and basically need to have them fully leveled to qualify the 5 lives bullsh*t is getting infuriating. It also makes it a huge hassle to work on song Mastery when it kicks you out after you max the level. How the hell am I supposed to memorize the song when it keeps kicking me out?

Received this as a Christmas present today. I look forward to plugging in my Telecaster once I get back home.

Prepare to be amazed. It really is something special.

I can't wait to get my audio adapter in. I decided the lag was too terrible so now -- get this -- I'm playing over composite video. On my 100" HD projector. It's truly horrible looking, but the lag is so much better. I really "like" that they made the connector such that when it's inserted into the 360 it covers the HDMI connection. That's so staggeringly customer-hostile!

I have composite cables that I can plug into my edirol box that runs my audio anyhow, so I shouldn't have that issue.

Thankfully, I have an audio cable already in the house, I just need to hook it into the TV. Really looking forward to getting some time in with it, although Mrs AnimeJ and I got sidetracked pretty hard this morning around 2am, so Christmas is on pause around here.

I second the Snark SN2, as I got one in my Christmas stocking and its freaking AWESOME.

Just got it for Christmas too! Looking forward to firing it up.

This. I have a Snark SN-2 and it blows my previous tuner (a Korg) out of the water. Just clip it to the headstock and it uses vibration to enable very quick and accurate tuning without dicking around via microphones. It has no trouble distinguishing the E tunings, which is more than I can say for the Korg.

Got this, too. Now I need to go grab a guitar.

So, I finally got to open this up today, and am absolutely floored by it. All the good things you've heard about it? Absolutely true. I've only gotten in an hour or two with everything else going on around here, but here's my initial impressions:

- The game is too failure averse. There were times early on that it feels like it's overly focused on positive reinforcement by pushing you on through songs, rather than letting you linger more easily on one to get the hang of it more. This could easily just be how I look at things, but I really don't get a sense of failure when I'm not doing something correct and/or as well as the game seems to think I am.

- It is bloody fantastic at getting you to make music. Not just noise, but recognizable music. Once I finally started paying more attention to that 'play again' selection(which I think went away after a few goes through on one song), I very quickly started to play bits and pieces of recognizable music.

- Being able to play this on an actual, unmodified guitar is sheer, unmitigated genius. There is a need beyond need for Ubisoft to duplicate the catalogue that Harmonix has built up for Rockband into this. Badly.

+1 to the above. The only bad thing about the game right now, for me, is the extremely limited library.

Three more songs by The Black Keys were stealthily dropped today.

Gold on the Ceiling
Just Got to Be
Mind Eraser

I went to best buy to pick this up today, but they only had the pack for the ps3 and for some reason I'd rather get it on the 360. Hopefully they'll have it in a few days.

Bummer, they had 30-40 copies at the one here easy. I'd look at Amazon too; maybe you can catch a deal there?

I mean the pack with the guitar. I was going to best buy as I have some gift cards to cash in. I may go check out the local pawn shop for some guitars.

Definitely hold out for the 360 version though. The PS3 version apparently has issues with lock ups and slower DLC.

I got this for Xmas too! I am excited to play around with it; it's been years since I've played guitar and I think this will help keep me motivated and interested. It's really hard to find time to actually practice, nevermind play a game these days, but I want to prioritize it this year.

And I agree with all of the Snark tuner recommendations. Small, simple, works perfect, and a decent price via Amazon.
