I, trueheart78, solemnly pledge to take part in the Pile of Shame monthly threads. Even if it is just for one game, I will put forth effort to clear my ever-growing pile, one game at a time.

I also pledge to do everything within my ability to restrict my game purchases to those that I've listed, and, if I should falter, will shamefully add them to the pile in full sight of this support group.

This is going to be a strange year. I'm going to be moving in with my friend Luke, and the two of us will likely be dividing games up. Plus, he's got a couple that I'd like to play (I just got him Battlefield 3 for Christmas, so I probably won't actually be buying it myself). So who knows what games I'll actually buy.

At the same time, the 2011 and prior list is not an actual game-plan. Those are games that, if the price is right and the mood strikes me, I might pick up. First, I'd like to make a dent in my pile. Get rid of some games.

Games will transfer from the "plastic" to the "want to beat" category, most likely, but some games, like Fallout: New Vegas, may be moved to the "never beat" pile due to their nature.

Oh, A Boy and His Blob, assuming it's the Wii remake, is a really good one.

So I've heard, but gaming on the Wii when your game system is being used as a family console is a pain in the ass.

I just realized I should have gotten my family a replacement Wii for when I move out. That would have been a fine Christmas present.

BTW Cesarano, I played through the first level of De Blob 2 (PS3) and loved it just like the original. Except that I actually missed the waggle to jump / smash things.

I haven't played the original, so I'm going in blind with the Xbox 360 version.

Seeing as I've been having a lot of fun with Mario 3D Land and such, maybe I should pop that game in next instead of Vanquish or Dead Rising 2.

I haven't played de Blob 2, but I threw a good three or four hours at the original and just couldn't understand the appeal. As a platformer, it just wasn't what gets me excited, I guess. Partly because of GTASC, I'll be breaking out Vanquish come the first of January, and I think SallyNasty is, too, if you want to chat with about it, ccesarano.

Quick, someone talk me out of getting Costume Quest.

You have 309 games you've never even played. You could play one new game a day and almost make it to the next Steam Christmas Sale, when Costume Quest will be as cheap or cheaper.

Yah that would be fun if a bunch of us played vanquish at the same time.

But.... but.... Ok you're right.

Starting January 1st, eh? I might have to start January 2nd, but sounds like a plan.

Add me to that Vanquish action too. Looks like we might have already picked Hemidal's game of the month for January

In case you've wandered away, thought about it, and decided that a new game a day until October 24th of next year isn't that bad, consider this: if each of your unfinished games was in a standard console clamshell and you stacked them all on top of each other, your literal pile of games would be just over 15 feet tall. That's one and a half stories!

For the sake of the pile, stop reading the Steam sale thread.

Spoiler:

This is a fun game! Aus_TBird's pile? That behemoth of a thing? Yeah, just shy of 60 feet tall. Holy mother of God.

Fortunately, most of the pile is the result of Steam and Humble Bundle binges, so it's probably closer to 10 feet tall. *belches* The console and handheld piles aren't nearly as bad.

ever! It's like a strip club: all looky-looky and no touchy :p

Videogames deal thread stands at 809 unread, and I have tagged the Steam holiday chatter thread, but not ventured in there (1691 not read).

BUT, it seems Microsoft is getting ideas from Gabe. Now there is a countdown to 2012 special running through the dashboard!?!? And Rock of Ages is DotW.

AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGH! WHY DO YOU TEMPT ME SO!

Oddly enough, there isn't much I plan to buy during these sales. My presents are done, and I've played about everything digital I care about (and I don't play PC games much, either, so safe from the Steam monster).

I even signed up for a $1 2-game month from GameFly and in my queue sit 3 games, all of which are in my "want to play from 2011" list. And none of them have shipped, either!

I did pick up Bastion because it was on my list and hit the price point dead-on ($7.50). Holding firm so far, though the first day of the Steam sale was really tough.

Grabbed Pyschonauts from the sale since I already own the GoG version and the Steam one received some new fangled gameplay tweaks that should make it a little more palatable from what I've heard. Will probably grab the Defense Grid: Awakening DLC at some point during the sale since I've played enough of that game to know I'll probably tear into the DLC anyways once I'm done with the vanilla campaign.

So far that's a net change of +2 to the Backloggery, but nothing I wasn't already planning on beating next year anyways.

EDIT: I think I might be a poster boy for the pile. I can't figure out how I ended up with a spare copy of Atom Zombie Smasher in my Steam inventory :\

I finally started to wear out Mario 3D Land, and I wasn't up to diving back into Devil Survivor, so I got Cave Story 3D.

I think I figured it out, although I'm not sure why I got a gift from a Humble Bundle, they don't usually add gifts to your account for games you already own. Weird.

Just received in the mail the following;

Xmen; Destiny
Lego Pirates of the Caribbean
Cars 2
Thor
Captain America
Power Up Heroes
Rise of Nightmares

Christmas Sales, and the promise of easy scores for the GTASC where the prime motivators. That and having 'more to trade' for next year's plan of limited purchases. I think I'm doing it wrong...

Guess I better do the walk of shame over to the Backloggery again...

Those are on my buy cheap list as well.

Captain America was really fun and solid for a movie tie in. It follows its own plot - but I really liked it.

I think, until January, I'm going to try and make a dent in either Duke Nukem Forever or Uncharted 2. I'm not really enjoying either game, but at the very least I can trade in Uncharted 2 when I'm done.

Still going to keep Duke Nukem Forever for "collection" purposes.

Could be worse. I still have Friday the 13th in my NES library because I refuse to get rid of games.

That's a head-scratcher for me: if you're not enjoying them, why are you playing them? Looking at your list, it's not like you don't have other games to play instead.

Life is too short to play games that you don't enjoy.

trueheart78 wrote:

Trueheart's Truism.

Because I feel the need to be exposed to them. I don't know how to really word it. I've spent so much time keeping up with this industry, keeping my ear to the ground, studying design, etc. etc., it just feels like I must play these games and see what the big deal is.

In terms of Uncharted 2, the game isn't horrible enough that I hate it. The game also seems like it might have a decent story. It just feels like they threw in too many mechanics without polishing them all properly. I'm also counting on Chapter 5 being decently far in. If it's not, then I might just give up early after all.

Duke Nukem Forever, though, is like playing through history. It's fascinating to see the design choices through the decades, in a sense. The problem is, despite being fascinating, a lot of it is just no fun to play.
