Borderlands (catch all)

What's the point of co-oping if you're just gonna run off and fight stuff alone and make the game really laggy for the low-level guy?

Because...you're made of....wood?

One thing I noticed while playing co-op is a drop in loot quality. A buddy and I were playing a LAN game and over the course of about 5 hours nothing in gun chests or containers came close in stats compared to weapons sold at the gun kiosk. Bizarre.

That's strange. I never found there to be a noticeable difference. When playing Crawmerax for choice loot, the drops seemed to be the same or better playing coop. For example, I've never seen a pearl drop in single player, but I have seen them drop in coop. That could have nothing to do with single player versus coop.

I'm pretty sure that one of the tips that comes up on loading screens states that you're actually able to get *better* drops in co-op than single player.

However, I think that the player levels factor into the power of drops, as does the area (I'm getting pwned on my 2nd playthrough of Knoxx ,but the drops are epic - however, if I head over to Claptrap's Robot Revolution, the enemies are easier, and the drops crappier). So if your buddy was lower level than you, that might have been pulling the quality of the drops down.

I have a sneaking suspicion it had something to do with built in anti-piracy/gaming protocols for LAN players, despite the fact that we were both running Steam GOTY editions and we were logged in at the time. Either that or my buddy was taking all the good stuff...

Edit: We were evenly leveled, somewhere in the 30-40 range. I've only experienced this in LAN games.

I used to farm the hell out of General Knoxx's Armory and didn't notice an appreciable difference in the loot drops from chests when playing solo or coop.

One thing you have to do to get better loot drops is finish the main game on the second play-through. Until you do that loot gets stuck at around level 50 I think.

Anyone interested in playing some Borderlands on the PC?

You can add me on Steam. I am casually playing through this right now, which is the only way I can enjoy it. Currently level 23 Siren and just entered New Haven. Got the 3 skills in the left tree (shields, health regen and phase walk CD) and am currently thinking about going into the elemental skills next.

Yeah - I need to play more of this on PC. Loved in on console and got it on PC for the DLC, but haven't actually played enough to get to the DLC yet. Anyone looking for co-op buddies free to add me on Steam.

I've returned to Borderlands as of late. Prior to this, I got through the whole game, plus Dr. Ned and Knoxx solo with a Siren. I've got a Hunter to about 2/3 of the way through (At the Backdoor if you know what I mean). Send me a note on Steam and we can coordinate a time. I'm on CST here in the midwest, and mostly available from 6pm to 10pm weeknights. Weekends are all over the place.

I'd be up for PC Borderlands. Never got that far in it.

Just downloaded Max Moxxi's but I am on the 360.

Invited you to GWJ Borderlands Steam group. There have been some people playing lately.

Can I get an invite as well? I'm hoping to clear the DLC off my pile early next year so I'd like to either have people to play with or bring my Brick out to help others

I'll take an invite. Got in on a Steam 4 pack and haven't ever loaded it, which keeps my streak alive of having never played a game I bought in a Steam sale.

Invites sent.

Welp, I gave it a good 19 levels, but this game has officially become "Borederlands" for me. Too much rinse and repeat for me, and why the hell do I have so few inventory slots with all this fun loot floating around?!?

You need to start helping out the damaged claptraps and they'll add three slots at a time to your carrying ability.

You can see a list of the locations of the damaged Claptraps on the wiki. There are only a couple in the early game, but once you get past level 20, they start coming along more frequently.

Also, if you are bored, do not do every side mission put in front of you. There are enough that by the time you reach the end of the game, you will be over-leveled.

Also, play with people. Much more fun that way.

I've been searching around (really!) and haven't been able to come up with a definitive playthrough order. Let's say I'm starting a new character, and haven't ever beaten this game. Starting from Level 1, what's the recommended order/levels to play through the DLC? I have it all:

Zombie Island
Secret Armory of General Knoxx
Claptrap's New Robot Revolution
Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot

I think Zombie Island unlocks at Level 10, should I do it as soon as I can? Or does it scale with levels?

I believe Zombie Island scales with your level. Not sure about the rest of them.

You probably want to play Mad Moxxi at a lower level because it scales as well. Or just skip Mad Moxxi since it is really nothing other than a poorly designed Horde/Firefight/Survival mode. If you are just dying to get the achievements then play it with a level 15 (I think 15 is the minimum level for it if I remember correctly) player hosting and your level at least 30. On Xbox you can even do this split screen on your own and just let the low level character get killed because as long as everyone doesn't go down you don't lose. Be warned though that the long matches take a really long time even if you are overpowered.

The order they were released show the order the NPCs appear. Moxxi Appears in Knoxx. Zombie Island and Knoxx apear in Robolution. All in all though you probably have them in the best order.

The levels are where they really messed things up though. Zombie Island and Moxxi scale to your level. Knoxx starts at level 35, but Robolution starts at level 37! By the time you finish Knoxx, Robolution is well below your level.

I personally suggest doing Robolution in playthrough 2 after you beat Knoxx in playthrough 1. You just have to play through the main campaign's first few little tutorial missions (up to where you bought your first shield, iirc).

Except for 1 thing in the General Knoxx DLC, that is my order. Crawmerax. Don't even try that until you've got friends to play with and are above lvl 45, or you are in the upper 50's. I went in at level 43 with Roland and got my turret one-shotted. Then I got one-shotted.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that's not the order they were released in. It went Zombie Island, Moxxi, General Knoxx and Claptrap's Robolution came last(so to speak).

you can also edit your save game to have like 5000 slots in your backpack.

I had the same problem at almost the same point in the game, I put it down for months. The good news is that things do pick up and move faster once you leave the Arid Badlands.

I suggest you stick it out till after you complete the dahl headleands missions
