Strangely, I thought I had this working, but now it doesn't seem to be working for me. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Works fine here. Was your inventory completely full at the time?

I've died in the game with something on my cursor and retained it when I respawned.

Puce: Did you turn on auto pause?

Auto pause breaks some of the game mechanic including releasing of new NPCs. You can't quick use items with auto pause on. Because my game play is characterized by endless interruptions, I use auto pause but I may switch to another pausing scheme (if I find out how it's done ;)) .

I'm about ready to begin hardmode. I just have to prep the battlefield.

I did some corruption testing on Erik's server. So far it seems that bricks like clay bricks, stone brick walls and the like are corruption proof. It will not spread through those materials to get to the other side. Same with glass and obsidian.

I'm currently testing dungeon wall bricks and wood. I tried mud but it almost immediately began turning into dirt, which IS corruptable.

To my knowledge, hardmode corruption/hallow spreads through dirt/mud/sand/stone and can jump air-gaps that are 2-tiles wide.

Dungeon wall bricks are also explosion-proof, which is good for warding off clowns.

Oh, and Erik, I fixed up your place.

Ah! That must be it. I did enable the auto-pause. I'll turn that off and see what happens.
I like the inclusion of the tombstones; I have the feeling I'm going to be unintentionally decorating the world with quite a few.

Who do I talk to for an invite?

Sent.

Thanks!

An alternate way to pause is to just alt-tab or select another window if you're in windowed mode.

Visiting this forum for the first time, and on a completely divergent note wanted to tell Sku Boi that Santa Claus versus the Martians is screening at my local theater in Denver this weekend.

This doesn't work in multiplayer FYI.

Christmas update! Includes a bunch of bugfixes and holiday content.

omg omg omg. This might actually take me away from TOR for a little bit.

So loving the snow biome.

Aw, I have to make a new map for snow?

That's the one really annoying thing about Terraria. Every time I get set up to build myself a nice castle I get a reason to generate a new map.

It's enforced replayability.

I can hardly find any Mythril and I have not yet seen Adamantite. Do these ores only show up in the hard underground zones or can they be found in other places like the underground jungle?

Mithril and Adamantite only show up in the stone layer and lower. To maximize your chances you need to break every single chaos altar you can find. Otherwise you will have a very hard time finding them. Using spelunking potions down in the lava layer is your best bet because there are a ton of caves and you can cover more ground faster. Another good way is levitating to the roof of hell and checking the rock there.

Just accidentally crafted 13 Anvils. Any way to break them down back to Iron?

Unfortunately no. But at least iron is very common.

Anvil tower it is then. This is my new favorite morning-coffee-and-game game.

So, son and I created a new world, to see the snow biome.
Built a little house with workbench, forge thingy, chest, table, chairs...
Then started walking east, and went until we hit snow.

Ok, let's make a house.
Hey, the merchant moved in.
Hey, the nurse moved in.

Except... they didn't. They just stood on top of a hill just west of the snow house, getting hit by zombies and jellies.
Arg. Why didn't they actually move in?

Screw it, I box them in and build a "house" around them. Really, just a 3 story stone enclosure. Ok, third workbench, chairs, table, toss in a bed, maybe they want one. I don't know. They still look like they're stuck (AI stuck, not physics stuck) and don't really want to be where they are, but I've got them indoors, at least.

But now I have 3 "bases" and no idea why the NPCs wouldn't actually go in the first 2 houses.

Also, no snowmen. Boo.

The NPCs are a little dumb. When they first show up they kind of wander into the frame. If there is a direct and easy route into their room they will use it most of the time. Otherwise you just have to wait a while and they will teleport directly to their room. Or if they die the next NPC will spawn directly inside an eligible room.

They will not teleport until you are off the screen.

Sorry to appear here only to ask a noob question in my first post (does it count as contributing to the conversation that I've been lurking in this topic for a few weeks?) but here goes: multiplayer server setup, gah! Is there not an easy way to do this, especially when all I want to do is set up a multiplayer game between my desktop and my laptop in my own house? Any advice accepted, but know that I've already been through (and befuddled by) the explanation on the Terraria multiplayer wiki and several how-to videos on YouTube. I'm really wondering if ver. 1.1.1 provides any kind of shortcut or more intuitive way to set up multiplayer.

After I told Windows firewall that Terraria was ok, my son just has to run ipconfig and tell me his ip, which I enter in the Join option.

If you're connecting computers via LAN, make sure you are using your LAN IP address to connect.

Are you using the dedicated server program or are you just hosting a server in-game? A dedicated server is preferable if you plan on leaving the server running on your main computer 24/7.
