NOTE: I am very lazy and rarely update this anymore. For up to date info the best thing to do is probably make a post asking.

This is a thread for discussion of competitive League of Legends events, teams, and matches.
All interest in E-Sports and opinions on the competitive scene are welcome.

I'm a bro and I approve this thread.

Why is the stream quality so bad?

Upcoming game is CLGCA vs Italy
Initial predictions are for CLGCA to win; however, I've seen nothing of the Italian team so we can't really count them out.
Should be streamed here: http://www.own3d.tv/live/167453/WCG_...
Medieval times quality mode.

Canada Picks:
Graves
Soraka
Cho'gath
Gangplank
Cassiopiea

Italy Picks:
Skarner
Irelia
Karthus
Corki
Taric

First blood

Spoiler:

Cho'Gath takes first blood from Irelia top

Result

Spoiler:

Canada wins in around 30 minutes. Italy did well in bottom lane with more aggressive play; however everything above that just rolled for Canada

The fact that the number of games is so large for the group play and we get to watch one of the games a night or so is just infuriating. Some genuinely good teams that we don't get to see a lot of playing and will not be seen.
Infuriating is hyperbolic.

No commentary streaming at least doesn't have latency between audio and video.

Yeah, I'm really disappointed to have missed Canada vs USA CDE
At least these are only the group stages.

edit: looks like France VS Malaysia is being streamed with no commentary here: http://www.own3d.tv/live/174843/WCG_...

France picks:
Sona
Rammus
Ezreal
Wukong
Cassiopeia

Malaysia picks:
Graves
LeBlanc
Taric
Irelia
Shyvana

Result

Spoiler:

Malaysia beats France.
MY played the early game super aggressive which made Graves and LeBlanc snowball HARD. France put up a good fight later on but just couldn't get a good enough fight to turn things fully into their favor.

And now for something completely different.

TSM's The Rain Man (who is alone in the TSM gaming house due to the rest of his team being in Korea for WCG) has made it his goal to reach rank 1 Elo before his teammates get back so he no longer has to take out the trash (lowest Elo in the house has to do chores). As inspiration he is wearing a trashbag over his shirt.

And many of you may be asking um "rainman, why are you wearing a bag of trash over your clothing"

Cool thread Fedora.

Regarding the format of tournament reporting, I think I prefer the style of letting multiple people post updates as things happen. It means if you come along a little late, you can follow chronologically. Summarising everything into a single post for posterity is also a great idea.

I love the RainMan trash bag challenge. Setting goals is the key to success!

THE TRASH MAN

Watched a couple of his trash bag games... plenty of teemo top and mid sion. The guy crapped on TreeEskimo/Tryndamere top so badly that he kept getting 3-man ganked by jungle/mid =D

HD quality as well.

edit: some guy has uploaded VODs to youtube of the so-far streamed matches
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...

edit: group C and D results added in my post up above

Spoiler:

USA and Canada advance from C, Korea and France advance from D

So, a question for people.
Would people prefer a format of posting info on a tournament (group results, match summaries, ect) to be compiled in a single post and then have information edited in as things progress?
Or would people prefer just letting updates happen through new posts?

The benefits of the first are that everything is easy to find in one location and it doesn't clutter up the thread.

The benefits of the second are multiple people can relay content and you can see the progression of a tournament better.

I suppose a decent in between ground would be let results and info be posted post by post and then whoever makes the initial post for a tournament can just copy and paste all the info into that post, so people who just want the results in one place can quickly access it.

Thoughts?

It seems only the main stage quality is like that, stage 2 is fine.
My guess is it's being used mostly for Counterstrike which is streamed at much lower resolutions.
I guess they just aren't changing it to HD for some reason?

edit: no more LoL matches being streamed tonight.
I'll update the final results of groups C and D later/tomorrow

Group C results:

Spoiler:

1 USA CDE 4-0
2 Canada Counter Logic Gaming 3-1
3 Australia 2-2
3 Italy Redbyte 1-3
4 Philippines BG 0-4
USA and Canada advance

Current Group D standings:

Spoiler:

Korea EDG 4-0
France Jerome_NEGGRET 2-2
Taiwan FTW 2-2
Sweden Jantelaget 1-3
Malaysia Orange Esports 1-3
Korea and Malaysia advance

France vs Sing I predict Sing win. They completely dominated their bracket and France seemed pretty shaky with their early game play vs Malaysia.

CDE vs Dignitas I predict Dignitas win. They are just overall the better team. They have the huge advantage of being all the same members of their normal team. CDE went 4-0 in group but to be honest the other teams (besides Canada) there didn't put up much of a fight. Either way should be a really good match.

iG vs Canada I predict iG. Same reason as Dignitas. If Canada doesn't do a lot of stupid stuff early it should be a really good game.

EDG vs Gameburg I predict EDG. Just because of how unfamiliar with the Poland team I am.

Oops I made a mistake on my group D results.

Spoiler:

Team France advances with Korea. After losing to Malaysia that put them at 2-2, tying them for second place with Taiwan. Tie breaker (based on time taken in the games) went in favor for France

Next bracket will be:

Spoiler:

[France vs Singapore]
[CDE vs Dignitas]
[iG vs CLG]
[Korea vs Poland]

Everything below here will not require spoiler text for information from the A, B, C, D group stages.

Thanks for putting all of this info together!

I have one strange question: Who's the gumpy looking guy with long hair and a mustache that's on one of the top teams? He was briefly a meme on r/league I think.

That's imaqtpie. He plays for Dignitas.

Voyboy and imaqtpie are switched around.

Ah, yes. That guy's appearance cracks me up, for some reason.

Upcoming WCG matches will be bo3, so they should be more interesting than the group stage.
Also, according to one of the admin's twitter, they will be streaming matches from the beginning to the end. Though I'm not sure if they will play multiple sets at once and just stream one at a time, seems likely though to save time. I really hope at least CDE vs Dignitas gets casted.

edit
And here are the scheduled times for tonight (or tomorrow morning, rather)
MAIN STAGE:
12:30 AM - 2:00 AM EST
SECOND STAGE:
3:00 AM - 4:30 AM EST

Apparently the round of 8 will not be streamed and only the 2 semi-final matches and finals the next day will be shown :\
So it looks like this:
Finals Bracket - Single Elimination (BO3)
ROUND OF 8
(1) - [France vs Singapore]
(2) - [CDE vs Dignitas]
(3) - [China vs Canada]
(4) - [Korea vs Poland]
SEMI FINALS
(A) - [Winner of 1 vs Winner of 2]
(B) - [Winner of 3 vs Winner of 4]
FINALS (Will occur the following day)
(X) - [Winner of A vs Winner of B]

This morning the LoL WCG stream was up showing a match with no commentary, maybe we'll get some of the Ro8 matches on that.

The no commentary no lag stream is up. CDE vs. Dignitas.
http://www.own3d.tv/live/174843

Game 1

Spoiler:

cde: leblanc, singed, alistar, lee sin, graves
dignitas: gp, morgana, rumble, janna, ezreal

Result:

Spoiler:

Dignitas pulls way ahead in laning phase, showing off their greater experience as a team. Wins it handily

Game 2

Spoiler:

bans ryze, yorick, rumble, kass, sona, karth
CDE: Graves, Udyr, Soraka, gragas, Lee sin
Dignitas: gp, janna, vayne, morgana, fizz

Edit: Why run ads during champ select?! Crazy WCG, outdoing the bad streaming day after day.

Is gp the jungler for dignitas? My attempts at jungling with him have been pretty disasterous. Wish I could watch these, curse you work!

Also thanks for puting this thread together Fedora!

They are also showing Canada vs China here: http://www.own3d.tv/live/176106/WCG_...

edit: results

Canada vs China

Spoiler:

Canada wins 2-0
Wow, I'm really surprised at this, they played super solid both games.

CDE vs Dignitas

Spoiler:

CDE wins 2-1 Surprised here too. That last game Dignitas just went full on choke mode or something. Voyboy ending the game 1-7 with 137 CS as Akali. Scarra on Kat was pretty underfarmed most game as well.

France vs Singapore

Spoiler:

France wins

Korea vs Poland

Spoiler:

Poland wins

Spoiler:

I was wrong on every prediction!

Below here unspoilered Ro8 results

I only saw the first game of Canada v. Poland, but holy cow was that lopsided. I was watching Nhat Nguyen commentate, and he did a great job when Travis wasn't trying to interrupt him.

Semi-finals will be:
Canada vs Poland
USA vs France

USA vs France coming up on here:
http://www.own3d.tv/live/167453/WCG_...
Results
Canada vs Poland:

Spoiler:

Poland wins 2-0

USA vs France:

Spoiler:

USA wins 2-0

Finals at 11pm EST

CLG got whipped up on by Poland, really? I'd love to see those matches.
