NCAA Football 2011 Season Catch-All

That's a huge disappointment for players. I thought there were enough Beef O Brady Bowls and Humanitarian bowls to keep everyone playing until January. Are they the only team with more than 6 wins not playing in a bowl?

Looks like. Utah St, Nevada, W. Michigan, Air Force, and S Methodist all at 7-5, in bowl games.

You can compare the two pages at ESPN: standings and bowl games. A quick find shows 16 hits for 7-5 on the former, but only 15 hits on the latter. WKU stands alone.

And of course 13 6-6 teams. They do appear to all be from BCS conferences, except for Marshall.

A&M is one of the 6-6s. And that definitely sucks for WKU.

As unexcited as I am to add a cherry on top to this s***y season, have I mentioned that I live about two miles from Reliant, where our bowl is being played? Kinda an unplanned to the moving earlier this year.

When I looked up WKY's schedule, it is pretty obvious as to why. They were 0-4 in their non-conference schedule, and only competitive in the game they lost 14-3 to Kentucky. I'm not sure this was as unfair as it might seem.

They were still 2nd in the Sun Belt, while the 3rd and 4th team in the conference got bowl bids. They beat FIU and LA-Lafayette, who got invites.

And come on three years into Div 1 status, 2 years from 0-12. These kids deserve a reward.

Did a little digging though, as I thought I remembered something similar to UConn or S Florida, recent div 1 converts the last decade... and it was UConn. They went 9-3 back in 2002, in their first full year of Div 1. But they were not in a conference, so had no "bowl affiliation" and got left out.

You guys are looking at this WKU thing all wrong.
The right question to ask is if their fans travel well. That's about the *only* thing that matters in non-BCS bowl selection. That and potential TV audience.
I'm not prepared to dig up stats, but I think Wisconsin has been chosen over allegedly better teams for higher-level bowl games in the past because their fans bring tons of money with them. I remember our fans have run a few bowl towns out of beer in the past.

Same with A&M. We get nicer bids than we deserve sometimes because we travel. Getting picked higher than ond's record often means playing a better team, though.

How can you deny this?

Actually, the real reason is because the whole country is scared of this:

Sandusky arrested again, as two new alleged victims come forth. This time is bail is more than doubled, and as yet he's unable to pay, and will stay in jail. Even if he does post bail, he has new restrictions, including monitoring and house arrest.

Huh. So now Pennsylvania considers pedophile rapists dangerous criminals, huh? New judge, or same old idiot?

No the original judge was removed or stepped down (not sure which) because it was found she was associated with the Second Mile charity in some way. She was the one that set zero restrictions on his first bail (pay, and have total freedom). At least this judge added harsher restrictions, such as house arrest, no being around minors, etc. and he set the bail at 2.5x the original.

Yeah, I knew all about the first judge's effing corrupt insanity. I'm sure it's perfectly legal, because the system is set up to allow judges discretion, but she should have recused herself.

Anybody see A&M's conference schedule for next season?

Welcome to the SEC!

Did the powers decide they just wanted to get a head start on recruiting Texas?

Well considering that they are required to play Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Auburn by virtue of being in the SEC West, I'd say they did A&M a favor by at least letting them play the "big 3" at Kyle Field.

The consensus on the SEC forums is that they are getting off easy with LSU and Alabama at home. I think they can win all of those away games.

Missouri's supposed schedule is even easier. They might have a shot at the East.

Isn't that also guaranteed to make those big time games at A&M? In other words there's more money in A&M getting to see LSU than visa versa. More chances for those games to be on national TV.

Well, that money is divided evenly, so it doesn't matter.

My thought is that they handed A&M four losses at home, and made their winnable games on the road. The Aggies are losing a ton of players, and were going to be rebuilding. Now they will be doing that with a new coach. The main attraction of A&M is that Texas recruiting base. If they go 0-4 at home versus the SEC, what effect will that have on A&M's recruiting?

Regardless, it is hard to imagine a tougher schedule in the country next season. That is an absolute meat grinder.

On the other hand, Mizzou's schedule is much easier. Not easy, but not so lopsided, either. And Grumpicus is right, part of that is because of the division. Geographically, Mizzou belongs in the West, and Auburn in the East. I would have thought Arkansas would be Mizzou's natural rival instead of A&M. But I am sure Mizzou wants as much of a Texas presence as they can get.

That's not bad. But even the article predicted a 2-6 conference record for A&M next season.

Those will be huge games for TAMU, but they had a lot of big games while in the Big 12. LSU and Alabama almost always get a CBS slot when playing SEC game. TV revenue is split evenly in the SEC.

I'm interested to see if the Arkansas game will stay at Jerry World. I like the venue, but if it became home and home it wouldn't be a big deal. Arkansas not playing Mizzou is just how it shakes out. It'd be nice to play them more often since it's the closest campus to Fayetteville.

This is the first I'd heard that they put Missouri in the East. I thought for certain they'd remix the whole conference so two of the most Western teams would both be in the SEC West.

Alabama said no. They did not want Auburn moving.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/9...

Alabama is to blame for Missouri's forced placement in the East, and it stinks.

When Mizzou was being bandied about as the potential 14th member of the SEC, Auburn was more than willing to move to the East to allow Mizzou to move into the West.

Auburn stood to gain much from the move. Sure, it would have lost the yearly rivalry with LSU, since Alabama would have become the Tigers' permanent cross-division opponent, but not only would Auburn keep its yearly rivalry with Georgia, but it would renew rivalries with Florida and Tennessee, whom Auburn played every year prior to the arrival of Arkansas and South Carolina in the SEC in 1992. Auburn would have lost its yearly rivalry with LSU, but more Auburn fans would likely have been able to get over it, seeing how the yearly series with the Gators and Vols would come back, and not to mention picking up two of the SEC's traditional weak links, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

Yet what Auburn was willing to accept, Alabama was not. Surprise, surprise, What else would you expect from a rivalry where some "fans" are so sick they poison trees?

The Crimson Tide was apoplectic over a potential Auburn move to the East, seeing as it would end their yearly rivalry with Tennessee. The "Third Saturday in October" has been part of the culture in Alabama and Tennessee since Bear Bryant played for the Tide and General Neyland prowled the sidelines for the Vols, and the thought made the Crimson Tide nation shudder.

After this past season, I'm not sure Kyle Field is an advantage.

I know they share revenues. A&M hosting LSU is more novel than A&M hosting LSU. So it's probably more lucrative for everyone for fans at A&M to get to see these teams sooner rather than later.

First off, you said the same thing twice. Second, we are probably more excited to see these teams at our home than they are to see us at their homes, I agree (if that's what you meant to write). What some of their fans have said on messageboards is that they look forward to visiting Kyle, as they've heard about what a great atmosphere and game day tradition it has.

I'm not sure if I repeated it twice. Someone said I was wrong, so I tried to explain myself.

Responding to this in particular.

I think he's referring to the highlight section. It took me a second but I assumed you meant "A&M hosting LSU is more novel than LSU hosting A&M."

The next head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks is Charlie Weiss.

I'm not sure what to think of this.

He can scheme a little bit, but he has yet to show he can recruit. IMO At Notre Dame, you could see the team degrade as he got away from Tyone Willingham's recruits. He made them better, but had trouble getting them on campus.

He better find some big time recruiters for his staff.

Throwing feces at a wall and yelling at your AD to stop hiring lazy gomer pyle fatbodies might be a start.
