Egosoft is pleased to announce X3: Albion Prelude, which provides a welcome bridge from the X Universe we know and love to the X Universe that will be experienced in X Rebirth. This new adventure will also feature more than 30 new ships and stations. A new Stock Exchange feature will enable players to speculate in local markets in a bid to increase their wealth. With this will also come tools to monitor and analyse economic developments and progress. Users with high-end machines will also benefit from some improved graphical quality settings. It is important to note that X3: Albion Prelude will NOT feature savegame compatibility with X3: Terran Conflict.

Free if you have the SuperBox

$10 if you have X3:TC.

I don't think I have the superbox because it was released later... but I bought the X2/X3R pack when it was super cheap, and then picked up X3TC. It's a shame that that isn't enough.

No way I would ever go backwards to X or X-tension.

Welp, I'll be giving this a chance. Maybe I'll actually like an X game.

Huh. That's a surprise, all right.

And it makes me kind of wish I'd picked up the Superbox the last time it was on sale.

You've been waiting for a human and Boron mating sim for as long as I have, haven't you? It's that missing piece you've always wanted.

I'm all alone on this one, aren't I?

Grubber and I have been mating for years... It's his dirty little secret.

When I cry out "For the Queen!" I'm talking about him.

Well that is cool and unexpected. Especially if I can get the track ir working with it easily.

Could it be my quest for blood is simply my misguided lust?

I have read endless posts, both here and elsewhere, and still am not sure what to do. Please help the dumb noob!

I have a silicon mine and a freighter (captured Duke's Dangerous Materials). I want to set the ship to go to a nearby Solar station to pick up a full load of energy cells, return to the mine, and repeat. I cannot for the life of me make this happen. I have all of the trade software upgrades. Please Post a step-by-step for me .... And assume I'm of the mentality of a nine year old! Really appreciate the help.

I don't remember the exact sequence of commands, but a freighter needs to have a station set as its home base before most of the trading orders become available; once that's done, "Buy at Best Price" should make it do what you want.

Congrats on the capture, BTW, and I hope you haven't given up on the game in the past week.

Thanks... definitely NOT given up, more like totally addicted. Learned a lot, but have two questions that I keep wondering about:

1. How does one get an HQ?

2. Where oh where is the mobile drilling laser? Every Teladi ED is 0 stock!! Can't find one to save my life. I know that the Xuniverse is dynamic, but there must be one out there?!

Help

Not sure if anyone is following this thread..... But here goes:

I am on the last Goner mission. Both pirate bases in Gaian Star are red. How do I get the one with the little blue book icon to allow me to dock? No friendly bases within many sectors.

Appreciate any advice.

IIRC, you need to talk to somebody on the station to get docking permission. There should be a book icon next to a name in the comms menu.

I opened the comm for the station with the blue book, clicked on the name with the icon next to it, and I received some snied version of "are you kidding me". I looked around for a nearby friendly station, to try and hack the quest station back to "the light side", but there are none in the vicinity. In my last save game I destroyed the other pirate station hoping that a new one will spawn without so much redness. No luck thus far. I hope that I didn't lose this plot line, I am sooo close to finishing. My last save with a friendly pirate station is WAY back. Any other thoughts? Thanks for your help.

PS - I am sorry that I found this game so late... I love it. For the past three months it has nearly occupied my every waking minute, much to the chagrin of my wife who's threatening divorce (kiddingly I hope). I also love the prior posts in this forum, much witty banter and useful information.

Hmm, with the other pirate station in the area red, I think that killing it and hoping a friendly one respawns was a good move. Unfortunately I think that that can take as much as a week of game time. Also unlike earlier versions of X, I don't think Terran Conflict will respawn the pirate station in the same exact place, I think it could be in another nearby zone, so try searching around for it a bit.

For these sorts of very specific questions you may be better off looking on the Egosoft forums. I have found them very helpful, and since I don't think many people at GWJ happen to be playing X3TC at the moment you'll probably get faster and more accurate responses there.

More general questions can probably still be answered here though, because those of us that have played X games have done so for so many dozens and hundreds of ours that a lot of the strategy has been permanently steeped into our brains.

So I looked up a walkthrough, and it fills out my recollections. Do you have enough Spaceweed and enough SQUASH mines on board?

If anyone wants a tutorial on how to be a xenophobic pirate in X3, please check out my video:

I kill no fewer than 10 Boron scum.

Grubber, I haven't watched the X3 video yet, but I like your other stuff. The 53 minute run time scares me. Something like that might be better as a series.

Grubber:
Thank you for posting that video, it was exactly what I needed to understand the game enough to get into it. Been playing all day and enjoying it immensely. I think the only thing I would like out of this game is a "common server" functionality like what is found in Evochron Mercenary, but that's more just because I like to have a chat window going telling me what other players are accomplishing. Both EM and X3 do a good job of making you feel like its not just you out in the blackness.

Garion - Don't let that runtime scare you away. It goes by fast (at least it did for me). I started watching when I went to bed thinking "I'll just stop when I get heavy eyes" and couldn't believe it when I was still wide awake at the end.

My exploits in X3 thus far:
after several aborted starts, I finally got the handle on navigating around, including the menus. Managed to destroy some ships, then got one that bailed and I could claim it. Took a while to figure out how to do that, then how to get it sent off for sale, only to then see me get jumped and destroyed before I could save anywhere. I've lost a couple ships that way already, but have managed to get 2-3 back for sale.

Have also had some nasty tussles with other pirates. In one of them, I was down to 6% and still managed to stay alive, but at the cost of a lot of my upgrades and one of my plasma throwers. I just finished getting back into fighting shape and installed 4 of those things to tear it up. I've not cracked 1mil credits yet, and spend it faster than I make it. Anyway, back to plundering Boron space!

It wasn't supposed to be 53 minutes, haha. I agree for the sake of upload time, I could have broken the footage up, but I was stubborn. It took me about 30 minutes just to get a Boron to bail. The video could have been 20 minutes if it weren't for that. Stupid Boron!

@Cymbrogi - I'm glad you were able to get on your feet with that video! Looking back at it, I might do a proper tutorial video as opposed to the "Grubber's Game Box" thing I do from time to time.

On a related note, I got both Vinny and Dave from GiantBomb to watch that video. Vinny hasn't tweeted since he said he would use the three day weekend to try out the game. I suspect he's knee-deep in Kha'ak. You know how it goes...

Anyway, I'm hoping we get a Quick Look on GiantBomb this week. It would probably do a lot to get more people to try this game. It's so freaking intimidating, but it's also pretty rewarding. I may go back myself and do a non-pirate playthrough. Playing as a pirate teaches you a lot about the game, but I've never played the story. Might be worth a look.

Oh, it won't scare me aware, it was basically a feedback comment to Grub. Perhaps I should've PMed him or posted a comment on the YouTube page.

Aaaaaaanyway ...

how do i target missiles, i get the alert that they are coming in but they aren't listed on the sector map and i can't seem to see them before they swat me out of space.

Markly wrote:

You can target missiles by using the next and previous target keys (Page Up and Page Down by default) or the next and previous enemy keys (Home and End by default). You may also spot them with your eyes, center the missile in your sights, and press the "T" key to acquire the target in the sights.

Additionally, although I haven't found the gravidar (radar) screen in Reunion or Terran Conflict as useful for this as in X2, missiles have their own icon on the radar screen. If you are able to see the missile on the screen, you can turn to either get the missile in your forward guns or in the arc of one of your turrets (if your ship has turrets and they are set to attack incoming missiles).

If your ship does not have turrets or you do not want to use them for anti-missile purposes and if your ship can equip the Mosquito missile, then by equipping your ship with Mosquito Missiles and the Fight Command Software Mk. 1 and 2 you can activate the Mosquito Missie Defense as an additional ship command under your ship's command console. Hope this helps.

There should also be a button for target nearest enemy, I believe it is R, which will usually be the incoming missile. Shooting incoming missiles is definitely one of the trickier skills to cultivate in X3, especially because as you get better at the game it becomes a lot less important. You get ships with sturdier shields that can take a missile or three, and at around the same time you get (or can get) ships with turrets to pick up a lot of that missile defense for you.

However if you do get good at missile defense that can really widen your options for the heavy fighter towards variants which sacrifice shields for speed and firepower (like Split ships), and if you decide that a turret isn't necessary you really open up your M3 options. If you move beyond the M3+s into M6s then missile defense really ceases to be something that you have to give a lot of thought to. You plan your turret loadout and orders accordingly, but that's around the extent of it.

If instead of going right into the M6 category you go with a small squadron they can take care of missile defense for you. If you travel with a pair of M3s or M3+s with turrets set to missile defense then they should keep most of the battlefield clear.

Sure, I'll PM him now. Thanks for watching, and remember, the only good Boron, is a dead Boron.
