That Bears/Chiefs game was almost National Championship caliber. Just raw, tough defenses slugging it out.

It was either watch that game today, or dabble in self-mutilation. I'm not sure I made the right choice.

Ugh, no Cutler, no Forte, no offense. Hanie looked good for one drive until hands of stone Roy Williams decided to let it bounce off his hands into the defense. I guess he didn't want a TD.

The Chiefs won due to a knocked down hail mary....

I was being fecicious. That was a game where two horrible teams tried to out horrible each other.

But on the Hail Mary, the Bears committed a really blatant pass interference. At worst, KC should have had three there, after getting it at the one.

Hoppa, don't mess with the chemistry this team is working with right now!

Yates had one amazing moment yesterday where he escaped a tackle, set his feet, and then threw a bomb into the red zone that any MVP QB would have been proud of. I believe that was the one Andre caught.

ENOUGH WITH THE CONSTANT PENALTIES AND MISTAKES I AM VERY CLOSE TO STARTING "FIRE RAHEEM" RANTS EVERY FIVE SECONDS.

This team is just not very good this year.

FTFY.

I was pleasantly surprised at how easily the Panthers handled the Bucs and at the same time saddened at how lousy TB has become. Apparently those throwback jerseys still had a little funk from '76 still on 'em.

Wacky day. Barry Switzer was just walking around our office with the CEO. Will try to get a picture. Wish I could ask for an autograph without looking like a fool.

I have a Giant's pennant on my desk. Think I can get him to sign it?

One of Tampa's biggest problems is that they're the worst tackling defense in the league.

Ask him if he still wears his superbowl ring pumping gas. Saw him at the 7-11 once every few months in Norman sporting that ring.

I follow the official Bucs feed on Twitter, and it just spouted out "Coach says the volume of defensive play calls will be cut down in the coming games to try to reduce missed assignments." Really? REALLY? Now, it's suddenly occurred to you that missed assignments are a problem?

Last year, the team was young and played frenetically, and really thrived in the chaos. This year, they just don't feel vaguely prepared; there are constant blown assignments on defense and really badly-timed penalties. I'm wondering if anybody tracks defensive penalties on third down; it seems to me there's been an inordinate number of them this year. Part of the problem is also the defense Tampa plays is very dependent on being smart and being in the right spot, and they just aren't in the right spot all that often. Letting Barrett Ruud go to TN and replacing him with a rookie seems like a nice idea long-term, but when you get rid of your "defensive QB" and replace him with a third-round rookie (who has, to be fair, played pretty well), you're going to suffer. Then, of course, there's the stupid; all the 15-yarders.

I think Raheem actually lost the team yesterday in large part yesterday; Brian Price (second-round DT last year out of UCLA) missed almost his entire first year with a serious pelvic injury and there were questions as to whether it might kill his career. He worked his butt off to get back onto the field and has been a real bright spot in the defense, and Raheem kicked him out of the game after a 15-yarder on third down. Now, it was an idiotic penalty, and the team clearly needs to do something about that, but this just screamed "arbitrary punishment" and "panic", and it winds up coming down on someone who hasn't been a liability. I mean, some guys are penalty factories, and suddenly jumping on one guy late in the season strikes me as just a bad idea.

It's still a young team, and I didn't think they'd win more than 7-8 games this year at most. They've also had a brutal schedule, and the same kinds of injuries lots of teams have had. That being said, this team does not play "ready" at all, and I think Raheem is getting the axe. It's a shame, because he did a really great job last year playing through the chaos, but he just doesn't seem to be able to plan or hold his team together well.

Hey, there's now evidence of it. I don't care if he's been gone for a year and a half, I still blame Sabby.

Apparently a candidate to be the next Bears QB is ... well, let's just call him the Ol' Gunslinger.

It's like his skipping training camp b.s., but waaaaaaaaaay sneakier. Let a team make the playoffs and then join em. Genius!

This is one thing the Jaguars got right this year. Mel Tucker installed a particularly simplified version of his defense, which is saying something given that the Jaguars are a line-up-and-play-your-gap sort of defense, not a Rex Ryan type that shifts and moves around a lot.

That, plus signing some good tacklers in free agency (particularly Posluszny - Buffalo fans were ridiculously unfair to him if his play as a Jaguar is any indication) = defensive turnaround from bad to top 10.

I don't care if he's been gone for a year and a half, I still blame Sabby.

Who? Brett Favre?

Doh!

Just don't say Brett Favre three times. He's like Beetlejuice.

But not as fun.

Well hello, Cecil Shorts.

Argh. Another injury that's probably out for the year? There's no room on IR! Someone's got to get cut.

At the end of the 2nd quarter, it appears the Chargers realized, "hey, the Jags only have undrafted rookies and street free agents left at cornerback!"

A pass to GUY WHIMPER?

He catches better than he pass blocks.
