60 Gig PS3 Will NOT power up

Howdy gang,

The subject line says it all. I went to turn on my PS3 this afternoon and it powered up long enough to take the Yakuza 4 disc. After that the PS3 immediately powered off and now I can't get it running. I've tried different power outlets and the system won't power up. There's no red light, no blue light, no green light or anything like that.

Anyone run into this problem and if you have was there a simple(ish) solution?

I figure I'll probably send the system to Sony to get repaired and hopefully they will be able to get the game out as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you get nothing at all it sounds like a power supply problem, although I say that as someone with zero PS3 knowledge.

Did you try toggling the power switch on the back of the PS3?

Otherwise, I've got nothing.

I have had that problem once. Leave it unplugged for 15 minutes and try again. Also toggle that power switch on the back as trueheart suggested. If neither of those work you are most likely looking at a repair.

I had this problem, it was a bad power supply. I sent it off to a third party, rather than Sony, didn't want to risk them sending me back a non backwards compatible unit.

It looks like my PS3 is going off to get repaired. Waited a day to plug the system back in and there are no lights/power on the machine. Tried different outlets and still nothing.

I'm hoping Sony can fix my actual console, get the game out for me, and not cost too much. @johnnypolite where did you get your PS3 repaired?

Thanks for the responses

I sent it to these guys. They did the job, have had no issues with it since.

I spoke with Sony and they said they can replace my existing 60 gig model for $129 and get a warranty on the repaired system. So i think that's my plan. If they can't guarantee my console comes back home to me then I'm using Jonnypolite's link.

replace or repaired? If they're replacing it you may not receive a 60gig backwards compatible model. Make absolutely sure of that before sending them yours. I also have had a good experience with jonnypolite's link--they weren't able to fix mine, but didn't charge me anything other than the shipping I paid to send it to them (they shipped it back on their own dime).

You can get the disc out before sending it in for repair (at least I was able to on mine). It was a year or so ago so i tried to find the site that helped me and can't. I found some other sites and I think this was the procedure. Mine was a yellow light issue and the disc was stuck. So I did this and it tested the fan and ejected the disc.

1.Power off the PS3 on the main switch on the back of the console
2.Press and hold the Eject button
3.Turn on the main power switch
4.The PS3 LED will go green and the fan will spin at max speed
5.Wait a few seconds and press the eject button a couple of times, the disk should now eject

Like I said, it was over a year ago, but I think this was the right process. This can be found thru Google search, thisd isn't something I made up. I hope this helps.

The guy from Sony told me that my actual system would be repaired. I did not want to lose the backwards compatability or the 500 gig hard drive that's now in the system.

@Steelergang I appreciate the suggestion for getting the disc out of the PS3, but the system won't power up at all so I can't even trick the system to give me Yakuza 4.
