Rocksmith Catch All

360. Reports are that PS3 has a couple of unique issues that haven't been patched yet.

DLC sizing:
Freebird 7MB
Bodysnatchers 4MB
Tighten Up 6MB

Rocksmith installed size is 5.7 GB. So you may or may not be able to benefit from reduced loading times by installing, but the DLC should be insignificant.

Ok.. good enough, plus I like achievments!

I installed Rocksmith on my 360 and did not notice any reduction in loading times.

I think I'm going to research for some tutorial videos online for basic stuff though, because I don't want to start off with too many truly awful habits. And I totally don't get why some strings require you to play frets that don't line up with the locations on the game display (seriously wtf?). Either I'm not playing them right so the tone is off, or there's something I'm really missing here.

I realize this is a pretty old post, but... I had this same problem and just about tossed the Xbox and the guitar it was so frustrating. Then I found this on Yahoo answers:

"You are pressing the string to hard.

First the fret is the vertical bar sunk in the fretboard. When you play you are fretting the strings. This means placing you finger on the string just behind the fret indicated. Place it in the middle, between two frets, and pressing the string all the way to the fret board will stretch the sting. While it doesn't actually bend the note enough to sound like playing the next fret, it will bend it far enough to cause the game to think you are one fret to high.

So keep your finger close to the fret, and press just hard enough to sound the note. A lighter touch sounds better and will delay the pain your finger tips endure."

Which made perfect sense since I'm not a guitar player but I do play bass. I was fretting the string with bass-string pressure and not guitar-string pressure. Not only did this correct the issue, it's also what you want to do, as a light touch will let you move more quickly and with less string noise.

Latest DLC is out - Smoke on the Water, More Than A Feeling, and Jessica. I bought the latter two songs, and they're well worth the purchase. More Than A Feeling has two Combo arrangements, Jessica just one but it's a doozy. Jessica also really exposes the in-game tuner as less than perfect. If your G, B, or e strings are even slightly out of tune (which the game will allow), it will sound like utter crap.

Another reason to go 360, apparently getting DLC on the PS3 is a pain. First there was the misprice on Tighten Up that took a while to get the price fixed, but DLC also comes later in the day than the 360, which is minor, or to the extreme:

For those asking about PS3 DLC & the missing Deep Purple track: We’re pushing to have Smoke On The Water live on PSN by mid-December.

[Edit] On tuning, I'm extremely happy with my Snark tuner. It's a precision tuner, much tighter than the pre-song tuner in Rocksmith. For a couple bucks more, I got the red SN-2 because it has a mic and tap metronome (blinky light).

+1

I wonder how the PC will handle DLC. (I'm still holding out, just barely though. Skyrim has helped my fortitude.)

Since Rocksmith is getting some guitar interest going, I bumped the GWJ Jam Band thread.

Dear Riff Repeater,

Why you gotta be like that? I just want to practice that riff for awhile. It's tough, I know. You don't have to rub it in. I just want to keep playing it over and over, until I get it right. But you seem to think it's better if I go back to the main menu every so often and THINK ABOUT WHAT I DID. I'll be honest, so far that's not helping me very much. I just wanna play, man.

Yours,
B

I am kinda of holding out for the patch to fix this issue.

I was surprised last night to unlock a "rare song" after completing a double encore.

Yeah that's the only thing that bothers me about the game, hope they fix it soon... It's like getting a celery stick in the middle of an awesome cake, it doesn't make sense

See? Makes no sense.

What will they think of next? LOL

The Wonder Pets would approve of that celery and cake combination.

Hey, thanks! I haven't followed this thread the past week (too much Skyrim!) but I finally caught up today and this tip alone is probably going to be a HUGE help to me in improving my guitar playing.

this explains what i was seeing. I kept pushing harder thinking that was my problem.

So Gamestop has this online for 50$ today. I am going to buy it, and that is a fact.

Came right up to the brink of purchasing this on the Amazon lightning deal, but finally decided to wait. I will almost certainly buy Rocksmith within the next 6 months, but I have a ton of other big projects that I need to complete in that time. Hopefully there's some consensus on what the best starter bundle is at that point, since I don't own a (non-plastic) guidtar.

I'm getting this - I think the wife already ordered it.
I think I'll get the guitar recommended over on Dubious Quality... Ibanez G-series, I think?

I played about 2 hours today on the expensive strat i have had for 15 years and hardly ever used.

My fingers are sore and I am blown away. This is some seriously impressive tech.

This was my biggest issue with Rocksmith. When I got it I was so out of practice as to have no calluses at all. I wanted to play a lot more than my fingers could handle. I've almost got my old calluses back now though. They're to the point that I need to file the rough spots off because they keep hanging on the strings and trying to tear.

Rocksmith just cost me some more money. Fedex just came by earlier and dropped off my new Line 6 DT25 head and ext. cab and HD500 floorboard. Soooo good.

[Edit] Holy Crap! I just found the literal Awesome Switch on the amp! Sorry, neighbors!

Hehe, awesome to hear you found it

This product looks great, nice way to help people over those initial frustrations of learning by adding in the game side of things. If they ever get around to adding bass support I'll probably bite.

... Jealous!

I'm thinking of getting the pack as I can't convince my wife that I need a guitar and I have 120 in credit at bestbuy.

According to this thread, the PC version has been pushed back to May. The big patch is looking like late January. I guess I'm okay with that. If they incorporate all the tweaks that they've said they're looking at from feedback then it's a fairly big revamp.

Wow, all the way to May. I almost broke my resolve and picked it up for the PS3 over black Friday, but managed to stay strong. I want it for PC, but I think waiting my cause me to jump on to the PS3 bandwagon. Maybe once I have some actual x-mas cash in hand I will break down and grab it, until then, I will just have to practice the non-video game way.
