The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Thread

I recommend the Fertigo Pro option, it seriously changes the look completely, much more than you might think a simple font could do.

But what changes looks more is something Certis recommended early on, I believe:

I love that one. Preset 1 is my preference.

Finally, something I think is astounding - f*cking modders are crazy creative - behold, a modification that actually adds something: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads...

Who needs the Creation Kit, eh?!

Well, I do. Badly.

What mods are you guys rolling with? Cool new mods are popping up all the time and here's what I have installed now (none of there break achievements):

  • Detailed Faces
  • Enhanced Blood textures
  • Enhanced Night Skyrim
  • High Quality Eyes
  • No More Blocky Faces
  • HD Furniture
  • Chris2012s HQ Texture Pack Whiterun
  • I wish I could use the FXAA Post Process Injector because I love what the filters do, but it practically breaks the game for me as my load times go from a few seconds to about a minute. Weird.

    what about the stock FXAA option?

    For skimmers like myself that just got the game: Could someone make a list of the must have mods?

    I already use that. It's the other stuff in the mod I really like.

    Since there's no CK out yet, most of the mods are cosmetic so far. Check a couple of posts above yours; TrashiDawa has hit the big ones. I also like Main Font Replacement (as mentioned by Hyetal), and Glowing Ore Veins is nice if you don't want to squint to find those ore veins (1.0 has a much more subdued effect, but I'm not sure if the author has left the old version available.) And, if you're tired of seeing boring old blanket-beds, or are feeling just down in the dumps one day, the My Little Pony Canterlot Blanket Bed may be just what the doctor ordered.

    I would like to post this in the console thread and watch the action.

    Some of you tinkering PC folks might find it interesting as well.

    Heh, most likely they wouldn't give a damn. If they did, they would already have the PC version. Isn't one of the points of console gaming not have to mess around with config files?

    Sold.

    I've been a fan of ENBSeries for a number of games, and I decided to give it a try with Skyrim. I was expecting an fps hit, given past experience with GTA IV and others, but it actually speeds things up. I haven't measured it, but I know that scenes that caused an FPS drop for me no longer do. I'm running it in conjunction with the FXAA injector that others have mentioned. The combination of the two is smooth and beautiful.

    To use them together, install the injector addon, and rename the d3d9.dll file it installs to something else (e.g. d3d9_fxaa.dll). Unzip the ENBSeries zip into the directory, and you should now have a new d3d9.dll and an enbseries.ini file. Edit the ini file to enable d3d9 proxy support. This essentially chains the dlls. ENBSeries will let the injector do its magic at the same time that it's working its own. I'm including the contents of my ini file here for anyone interested in trying it out. The EnableProxyLibrary=true line enables the proxy, and ProxyLibrary=d3d9_fxaa.dll points it to the injector's dll. If you chose a different name for your dll, update that line.

    My enbseries.ini file:

    [PROXY]
    EnableProxyLibrary=true
    InitProxyFunctions=true
    ProxyLibrary=d3d9_fxaa.dll

    [GLOBAL]
    AdditionalConfigFile=enbseries2.ini

    [GAME]
    SpeedHack=false
    ShadowQualityFix=true

    [FIX]
    ForceSingleCoreCPU=false
    IgnoreThreadManagement=true
    IgnoreThreadPriority=true
    FixGraphics=true

    Sweet mercy. http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads... will eliminate the impromptu chatter every single NPC is seen to hand out like candy to a trick-or-treating god damn child. There's an option to simply reduce the distance for it to trigger, which might be the better choice.

    If this is not an annoyance for you, I suggest bookmarking the link, because it will be.

    Y'know what I miss?

    A mule. Like in Dungeon Siege. And a lackey to run back and forth between my mule train and me, while I'm in a dungeon, like Torchlight's pet.

    IF IT MOVES IT MUST BE PICKED UP!

    Heck, just some saddlebags on the horse would be great. Infinite saddlebags...

    Elder scrolls games must be difficult for you, since, you know... everything can be picked up.

    I've liked ENB as well, but I think this one is definitely still in alpha or beta. I was getting graphical anomalies and crashes with it on.

    Yeah, but then I wouldn't have had that one kid start screaming "Naked! Naked! Naked!" when I accidentally started running around town in my undies.

    Same here. I can play the DOSBox version just fine, but not ENB. Looking at the graphics from then til now, I can see what a visuals-whore I've become. Shame on me, I probably spent 100 hours with Daggerfall all those years ago.

    Indeed. I found myself crouched with an arrow nocked, sneaking through the majority of the last dungeon I was in - because you walk faster when you're encumbered if you hold an arrow ready to fire.

    Love/hate. And yet I can't bring myself to remove the weight restriction via the console. I did love the underground hideout in Fallout 3 though.. somewhere to sort & store all that handy must-have junk!

    Unfortunately now I also want fractional gold pieces, so I can get that 1 copper for that wooden ladle I, ah, 'liberated' from the local tavern....

    Thankfully (for me), I've had less graphical glitches with it on. Given what it is, I'm sure your luck is tied directly to the hardware on which you run it. My card is a 560Ti 2GB. I haven't tried it on my laptop's AMD to give an account.

    That kid that keeps repeating "Another lackey come to lick my father's boots. Great." Needs silencing. I'd love a targetable command to just shut him up. Call it the Duct Tape mod.

    To heck with making him quiet. I'd rather have a mod that removes his invincibility.

    I don't want to harm him. He's annoying, not dangerous.

    He's dangerously annoying to me!

    Inventory mod that uses a lot of the previously empty screen region:
    http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads...

    Note: this is a WIP and people have been reporting some of the control for it can be wonky.

    I'm going to post this here instead of the main thread to see if anyone has any ideas. I figure most of you guys are more technical so I might have better luck.

    I'm having some performance issues and I can't seem to pin down the culprit. Inside a dungeon (caves, insides of keeps) I'm getting around 120+ FPS. Outside in the world I'm getting about 28 average with some drops into the low 20's. I think the drops might be due to loading new chunks of the world, but I can't confirm. Inside of the towns and cities I get around 25 FPS with drops into the teens. Combat has almost no affect on the FPS. So I've been doing a lot of tweaking, but nothing seems to fix the issues. Monitoring my video card I noticed that inside the dungeons it was under around 75% load. Inside the cities and outside of town the highest I ever noticed the load going to was 33%. CPU never goes above 80%, and I almost always have around 800 MB's of RAM open and ready to be used.

    So I've turned off shadows (which are apparently handled by the CPU) completely to see how they impact performance, and didn't notice much of a difference, maybe 1-2 FPS on average. Turned off AA and AS (from 4x,2x), with no real gains. I did the 4GB unlock for RAM, but there is no way to tell if that did anything. I doesn't feel like it did anything and my RAM usage hasn't change. Found an ini tweak that fixed some peoples issues and supposedly increased memory utilization, but it didn't seem like much.

    All my drivers are up to date and I'm wondering if it's an issue specific to my video card. My system should be able to handle the game on at least high with (4x,4x), but it's chugging with everything turned down. I know the specs are ancient for some of you guys. Wondering if anyone with a similar setup is having any of the same issues.

    Specs:
    q6600 OC'd to 3.0 Ghz (maybe a bottleneck?)
    ATI HD 6950 2 GB
    4 GB RAM

    I was also having issues in cities and outdoor environments as well. My solution was to reduce my resolution, turn off all the water reflection settings, and disabling the shadows.
    With disabling shadows I've read that turning off the shadows themselves (via reducing the shadow distance to 0 in skyrimprefs) wont actually help much with FPS. What I did was turn the shadows to low first which helped but made the world look disgustingly bad, then I disabled them completely which gave me a few more frames as well.

    Also, have you already disabled Vsync?
    Also, also, try doing the Large Address Awareness patch: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads...

    Titanis, based on your specs I wouldn't expect turning off AA to do much, since that's tied to your video card and your video card is plenty powerful. It's probably more likely that draw distance in the outdoors is being problematic with your CPU (hence the inability to utilize more than 33% of your video card). Try dropping some of the less useful draw distance stuff (grass, object fade, etc.) and see if that helps.

    I'd be totally behind a mod that flat out let me kill off that particular NPC, having listened to that obnoxious voice clip so many times. I have no problems with doing this, because at no point do I ever associate an irritating digital artifact with a real child.

    Has anyone figured out a way to add custom music to the game? I liked how Oblivion and Morrowind let you bring in your own music by just plopping some MP3s into a folder. I did some Googling, but can't find anything relevant.

    Yeah, I haven't investigated too much, but the Steam version seems locked up tight compared to Oblivion where there was just a folder with the .mp3 files sitting there ready to be copied or changed. Makes me sad puppy, but I guess Jeremy Soule does deserve better treatment and more money.

    Skyrim is definitely more CPU dependent than most other things on the market today. I'm running a 3 ghz Core 2 Duo with a 6870 and have similar frames to what you report, warhawk. Doesn't bother me all that much, really. Make sure you have vsync turned off.
