NFL 2011 Week 11

Tebow's touchdown made me flash back to Vince Young's BCS Championship TD run. I wonder what would have happened if Vince Young had forced his coaches to change the entire style of the offense for his abilities. Like I said earlier, I think Tebow might be a Pro-Bowl fullback, I just wish he wasn't listed as a QB cause he sure as hell can't throw.

I do not think Tebow would be a pro-bowl fullback. If he sat in the backfield, and got the ball handed to him once every 10 to 20 plays and then was a blocker the rest of the time, what good could he do exactly? That's a conventional play in a conventional system, and it plays zero into Tebow's strength. He creates what he does, because despite everything everyone says about him negatively as a QB, when he's back there, defenses have to play him straight up honest. If they don't, then he's going to potentially do something to hurt them. If he's at full-back, then the defense can go back to 11 players covering 10. With him at QB, it has to be 11 players covering 11, and that creates a miss-match that NFL defenses have not seen on a consistent basis in 30 years (or more).

So, if it's not him at QB (or whatever you want to call that position with him in it), giving the offense a number of options on where the ball goes, then Tebow's advantage is nullified. I will say, though, that if Tebow becomes even a serviceable mid-range passer (which he is obviously not at this point), you might have defensive coordinators quitting all over the country.

I saw a stat that Denver started five drives in Jets territory, and got one field goal out of the deal. I think .6 points/drive started in your opponent's territory is not that good. Denver's defense, on the other hand, looked good. Sanchez threw that horrid pick-six gift, and the Jets just couldn't do much of anything. No running game means Sanchez has to carry you . . . yeah, not gonna happen.

Denver has an easy schedule the rest of the way, meaning they'll have just enough momentum this year they won't think about a QB in the offseason. Then, a likely tougher schedule next year, and we'll see how that goes.

I'm sure Denver wants another QB, but how do you sell that to the fans? "Yeah, Tebow won us a lot of games, but we're going with a rookie." Tebow got the start because they thought he would lose and everyone would see how bad he is. Well, everyone has seen how bad he is but the guy keeps winning. That's a tough sell to fans.

If he keeps winning, he is locked in. Unlike LSU's coach who seems to think that replacing a QB who got you to 9-0 and a #1 ranking is a smart move, NFL coaches are a bit smarter. It's all about the wins baby! They won't care if he throws for 5 yards a game. If he keeps winning, then behind center he stays. Hell, if anything it will gets asses in the seats to watch this nice kid who is a terrible QB, but still manages to win games. Kind of like watching a train wreck when you know nobody gets hurt, you just can't look away.

I think this is the most important point.

Tebow is so awful as a passer you have to minimize his risk.

Sanchez on the other hand seems to be fooling the Jets into thinking he might actually be half decent.... result?

Sanchez 24/40 attempts with a deadly pick six. Tebow 9/20 no turn overs... Tebow this year... 1 pick.

Theres no confusion with Tebow. Obviously he doesn't work on a team with a bad D as he cant chase a game for you.

Its the difference in knowing your QB is average and not expecting him to do anything amazing. See 49ers and Smith this year. Dilfer comes to mind.

Jaguars
Ravens
Rams
Falcons

Wildcard: Niners over the Cards

This seems like a good time to bring up Josh Freeman again too. I think TB this year is a good "after" snapshot of what happens when your defense loses ground and your opponents get tougher -- and Freeman is clearly a better passer. I think it's going to be dismal in Denver when that happens to Tebow. Not if, when.

Jags

If the Giants lose to the Eagles on Sunday night I'm going to lol

Lol I struggled with the Ravens pick... on one hand the Ravens seem to only want to beat "Good" teams.. so are the Bengals good or not? Part of me says not and thus they will beat the Ravens... ugh.

Jags
Bengals
Seahawks
Titans

I'm taking an easy one this week.

New England over KC

Double post..

...and I will cry, lol.

I really wish I had a camera when I was at my parents tonight and witnessed my father Tebowing. I've never been so proud before in my life.

Never has this image been more appropriate in so many ways:

Damn, that is the height of blasphemy and very clever!

Browns
Ravens
Seahawks
Titans

Vikings over Raiders

Jaguars
Ravens
Seahawks
Titans
Wild card: Patriots

The Lambeau faithful is lucky BJ Raji didn't do a leap.

Edit: And MJD better have extra security for doing the LeBron thing in Cleveland.

Apparently, me picking the Vikings means they're going to get blown out.

Can somebody call the Bucs bench and ask Mike Williams to (A) actually run the right pattern, and (B) run at full speed? He just half-assed it on a crossing pattern on a scramble, and the CB picked it off. Fight for the ball, you @#$@!!!

Looks like another afternoon of close games. I love RedZone!

Blaine Gabbert throws game winning TD.

Jason Hill drops it.

Why does my opponent in fantasy leagues always have the players involved in ridiculous shootouts?

Eff you Matt Stafford. Eff you.

They managed to turn that into a nail-biter.. Although I think penalties and turnovers had more to do with it.

And no word yet on DHB? He lost his helmet to a knee to the back of the head and was carried off the field.

Why are the NFL overtime rules dogsh*t compared to college? And can we declare that any rule that takes more than two sentences to explain is ridiculous?

Just watched the end of the Redskins-Cowboys, fwiw. No Texans this week, Tebow/Von Miller played on Thursday...had to dig as deep as my Cowboys hatred to find a rooting interest of any kind this Sunday.

Well, Blaine Gabbert continued a solid 2nd half against Indy with a solid full game against Cleveland.

Still too many near-miss rookie throws, but the offense has been opened up a tad and Gabbert led some drives.

Marcedes Lewis finally started holding onto the ball, but Jason Hill, well, a drop here, a drop there, and a drop on the should-be game winning TD in the corner of the endzone, ball right into his chest.

Brutal way to end the game, but a nice thumbs-up for the development of Gabbert. Hopefully just the beginning of an upward trend for him.

Harbaugh challenging again!

EDIT: And now he might actually need to challenge this fumble. Too bad he wasted the other one on a clearly not TD.

I don't get why the Jaguars didn't run with MJD on that last play. Gabbert looked fine, but when the game is on the line give it to your superstar.

I am in agreement with this. Throwing in 3rd down with 0:08 left was the right play (and the play worked, damn you Hill!), but on 4th down with 0:03 left, it was one play either way.

I would have liked to have seen an MJD run, or, if it was going to be a pass, bootleg fake off the MJD play-action. The defense would be highly concerned with MJD, and Gabbert has the speed to get outside and work the run/pass option.
