Totally canceling my refund now.

is that civ colonization? I am pretty sure I have played that game, whatever it is.

I fired it up last night, just to see some of the changes. Crashed on my first turn. Back on the shelf!

Same thing happened to me.

Got my refund. Will check in with you guys 9 months or so from now and see how things are going. For now, I'm out.

Wow, nice. That wasn't a token gesture then. I'm getting more turned off by the way Mecron is replying on their boards to anyone that isn't a sycophant. Their updates are slipping and they [he] gets super defensive when people complain that they aren't holding to the schedule they promised.

Grabbed SOTS when it dipped to $5 definitely got my money out of that, and now it looks like i'll wait till SOTS2 does the same thing... should be stable by that point.

Enjoying doing comp-stomps allied with Csteel him playing Tarka and me playing Hiver 8 race game 300 stars Rift style. First taking our half of the rift then we launch the invasion to the other half!!!

i really like the Hiver ultimate defense of gate warp to mount a 1 turn defense anywhere in their realm and with farcasters really cuts down on travel time for offense.

I asked on Facebook if they are going to introduce map randomization and they said that the map system is very different from the old one, so while they haven't discounted adding a random map option, it is not something they consider to be a minor addition. I remember some people around here weren't too happy with the lack of randomization, so I figured I'd just let y'all know.

I'm curious about the experience the few brave souls have had actually trying to play the current builds.

I've tried starting a game a few times, and I'm not sure if it's my graphics card or not, but it runs like a pig. Graphics are chugging, there are long delays between clicking a button/setting and the action resolving. Not sure if this is my graphics card (geForce 8800GS) or the state of the game (or both). I didn't actually want to play, but I wanted to just explore the game system and see how things worked.

But is there a fun game in there? I've read the manual's they've put out, and there seems like there could be an awesome game in there if/when they actually finish building it. But at this point, I may ask for a refund and commit myself to SOTS 1.

I've stopped posting patch notes as it sounded like most people are like me and just waiting for the "complete" game to be out. I suspect we're getting close now though they've been pushing the updates. It still amuses me that the top news post on the Kerberos web side is that they're looking for SotS2 playtesters. It doesn't mention the $50 application fee though.

I saw that, and wondered, "Wow! The menu transitions are like 4000x snappier than in my version of the game." From the forums, there seems to be a massive increase in menu/action lag with the latest patch. Seeing as how it was unbearable for me before, I am staying away.

Still looking forward to checking it out sometime late next month, or maybe in the new year.

New patch supposedly today.

I will maybe be diving back in this weekend. They said to give them until the end of November to fix things and it's the 1st of December, so they've had their reprieve, in my eyes. If it is still all jacked up, I'll be putting it back on the shelf until middle of next year or so. We shall see.

From the lead dev's post they're still about 2 weeks from what they'd considered "release worthy". Then it should be to the fine tuning stage.

Are you seeing that on the Kerberos forums?

Yeah, here you go. Sorry, should've linked it before.

Still gonna wait at least a couple more weeks to reinstall and check it out.

No worries, thanks for the link.
Reading that, I guess I will wait for the new year to fire it back up.

Over the next 2 weeks you will see the espionage system, independent worlds and psionics finally make their appearance along with a whole ton of odds and ends.

That's insane. They released this even earlier than I thought. I'm glad I got my money back (and spent it all in the Steam sale).

Yeah, the more I see how much they've done I'm realizing just what a bullsh*t move it was to release it.

Would be nice if they could at least hang "Out Of Order" signs on the stuff that doesn't actually work yet.

Like the title screen.

Is the Options menu still grayed out?

So glad steam has conditioned me to wait for a game to go on sale before i buy it now. Means i get to play once all patches are out and at a discounted price!

Ouch Ouch Ouch PC Gamer gives it a 43

Can't say they didn't ask for stuff like this to happen but such a shame considereding where the game will be in another month or so.

Any game can become a masterpiece if you give it infinite development time.

Except for DNF.

Any game can become a masterpiece if you give it infinite development time.

Well, that's an unprovable assertion, since infinite time hasn't happened yet, but I think there's a point where further work on a game doesn't really improve it anymore, and if the fundamental design is poor, you're not going to get a masterpiece.

Not that these guys were anywhere NEAR that point.

I'm waiting for the new year to try this out again. I was waiting for December but it looks like they are still putting major systems in (supposedly they will be finished in mid-December). Once they are in then there will be the inevitable bug hunts.

Hmm. After typing that, maybe I will push back my playing to next February.

Personally I love the design, the random tech tree, missions, admirals, how there doing diplo, love the map. I think this will be THE space 4x in another month. Thats the thing that really sucks is they killed all the interest in the game hardcore fans of the old game like me could bring into the new series, probably the biggest fail in the whole fail that was the releasing of a .50 Alpha. .75 Beta will be here (end to end complete) in about a week, release 1.0 after some polish would have been january so its about a 3 - 4 month early release not including the month of public distribution helping them fix balance bugs patch which has kinda been worked in with everyone having the alpha/beta builds and them working 60+hour weeks.

I wasn't just trying to be funny when I posted that picture: I really want to fall in love with this game. I really liked the first one a lot. I can see that there is a lot of really good ideas in this, so I stuck it out instead of asking for my money back. It would be nice if they re-launched in February to try and regenerate some buzz for it, because I'd like for Kerberos to be around for the next thing to prove that they have learned their lesson.
