MMA Catch All Thread.

I've started watching a lot of MMA on spike. Damn its fun to watch. Also now looking at maybe some jujitsu classes.

I would HIGHLY recommend checking out some BJJ classes - but do some research on the gym prior to going and be prepared to be sore. There is a fairly steep learning curve and for the most part the only way to learn is to roll and that can be painful at times. If you go in with the right mindset, you'll be more likely to stick with it. If you go, give yourself at least 3 months before giving up - also try to go at least 2x weekly.

I started at 37 and about 20 lbs overweight - after 6 months, I had lost 15 lbs and 4 inches in my waist. I had also cracked two ribs and had more bruises than I could count. I'm over 2 years in now and have made lots of progress - made blue belt after about 18 months and got my first blue belt stripe about 4 months ago.

Just saw this on Joystiq - sounds like a pretty cool way to watch UFC:

The pick 'em and ppv integration should be very interesting.

Is anyone else watching TUF this season? Bisping is such a douche.

I don't need to be watching TUF to know that Bisping is a douche.

The wife and I have been watching it! I won't spoil it for it anyone but if you dislike Bisping it has been pretty enjoyable. I'm looking forward to seeing Bisping's reaction to having water thrown in his face. Especially since he did the same thing to DaMarques Johnson during season 9.

Really psyched for Mayhem vs Bisping!

I hope he goes completely Hendo on him.

No doubt.

I've really been enjoying this season of TUF. Every single one of the fights so far has been good.

I think the most entertaining was the one where Bisping's number one pick got choked out by the crazy Jesus freak.

So glad I found this thread.

Bisping is a douche, I suspect he always has been - but it was confirmed for me after his 'victory' over Matt Hammil. I don't think Mayhem is much better, but I suspect he is the 'its all in good fun' kind of douche rather than Bisping's pretentious douchy-ness.

One of the great finishes of all time. Couldn't have been happier for Hendo and I was thrilled Bisping was on the receiving end.

Thought you might like a little happiness to brighten your day.

Exciting fight this weekend - Nick Diaz versus BJ Penn. Penn isn't the fighter he once was, but these two guys have granite chins and very accurate striking. Should be a very fun fight to watch.

I'd like to see BJ win, but the head tells me Nick is going to outpoint him.

Thank you Paleo.

I finally caught an episode of TUF this week, and man Bisping is a prick.

I watched that fight live and thought for sure Bisping would be drinking his meals for the next six months.

WTF, BJ? That fight sucked.

Velasquez or Dos Santos?

Velasquez.

And...Guida. Normally I would pick Henderson. I watched the weigh-ins last night. Henderson looked like he cut an extreme amount of weight. The expression on his face looked like he wanted to go home.

Clearly....I am full of crap.

35 minutes of jibber jabber.

So there was one 64-second fight on an hour-long Fox broadcast? Do I have that right?

Pretty much. 59 minutes of meaningless and unilluminating jibber jabber and a 64 second fight.

Should have paid for the Pachiao fight.

Lot of replays from every available camera over and over. Yeah it was sad.

Agreed.

What they should've done is plan the show to have enough time for TWO full length fights - one 3 rounder and then the 5 round title match. At the beginning of the show (after the prelim card has already taken place) do about 5-7 mins of intro, then show the most entertaining fight on the undercard to the TV audience (in this case, Guida vs Henderson). Once that is over, roll out the live main event. If the main event doesn't go the full 5 rounds, then you vamp and show highlights of the main event and other fights - show the people who are tuning into a MMA broadcast for the first time what they might have missed.

Instead, we get 50 mins of vamping and promos and less than 2 mins of a fight. At worst, the should've had a better contingency for a short fight - which was a strong likelyhood given the power those two have in their hands.

It wasn't a total disaster, but definately a missed opportunity.

So mad about Cain's loss u_u

He looked really bad on TV, I hope he comes back and kicks serious ass.

He hasn't been healthy in a year.

64 seconds of action over an hour is really bad television. Half-hour comedies are canceled for less.

Great card last night - reminded me of some of the old PRIDE cards.

Also, if you're in the new XBox preview progam, make sure you download the UFC app and keep an eye out for free fights.

I was not really looking forward to last nights fight card. But i have to admit it turned out pretty good. Almost all the fights were good. Nogera v Mir turned out to be way more exciting than I thought it ever had a chance of being.

Rumors floating around that Overeem may be out of his fight.

Amazing comeback for Mir - I'm suprised that there wasn't more damage done to Nog's arm given how it looked live.

Sounds like 'Reem is gaming the system a bit - don't think the NSAC bought completely into his excuses and are going to keep a close eye on him. There's no question in my mind that he's done HGH and steroids - take a look at him now vs 5-7 years ago. Same as Barry Bonds.
