The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Catch-All

So a while back I got jumped by a group of hired thugs, and one of them had a note from some NPC I've never heard of claiming I was a thief. The thing is, I don't steal. I've stolen maybe 4 things, and each time because a quest made me do it - and of those times, one person I robbed was already dead, and another one died shortly after. I really have no idea who this is or why he's out to get me.

Perhaps you look guilty hmmm? Something you want to confess?

I wonder if that is why

Spoiler:

I keep getting attacked by dark brotherhood assassins. The note doesn't give any reason, just that someone hired them to kill me.

I got attacked by those guys too, again I have no idea why.

Has anyone else gotten very far into the Thieves guild line yet? I don't want to do spoilers but as a hard-core Grey Foxer from IV, I'm loving the storyline in V. If you like stealing stuff, you should go look em up in Riften.

Love the game but HATE the interface. What community mod maker will be the hero and fix this abomination?

--Dialogue selection is broken. More often than not the dialogue does not select the one I click or have 'rotated' in the dialogue wheel. (How about numbering the selections so we can use a hotkey?)
--Why can't I see my bonuses or active effects on a single screen?
--Why can't I see my equipped armor and 'apparel' on a single screen and not in a list with everything else I am carrying?
--What to say about the starmap 'carousel'? It is pretty to look at but a disaster functionally.

RPS summed up my thoughts on the interface mess pretty well today.

Maybe I'm treading on previously discussed ground, but I can't keep up with this thread.

Yep, finished that up yesterday. The last couple of quests are pretty nifty (a cool mix of the last crusade meets the mines of moria :). )

I take it from the many UI and menu complaints that http://www.gameinformer.com/games/the_elder_scrolls_v_skyrim/b/xbox360/archive/2011/01/28/skyrim-menu-system-overhaul.aspx didn't make it into the game? or if it did it still managed to be unwieldy and obtuse?

For most of us, the UI just has some issues that if fixed, would make it perfect.

For me, it's some sorting options, more responsive selection, and a couple additional filters (Potions and Poisons should NOT be in the same god damn tab). The favorites menu is a prime idea, but it needs separate panes for the different items. It looks far too messy if you've added more than six things to it.

And yes, while the constellation menu *looks* great, it is very fiddly.

Oh good, the meeting is being held here.

Hi everyone. My name is Coldstream, and I'm an altoholic.

My current character is not so good with two handed weapons or heavy armor. I wonder how two handed weapons handle and heavy armor handle.

After having a blast with a very good stealth archer, I feel a strong urge to try out some paladin-like Imperial, or full-magic High Elf.

Imagine my disappointment to find out that mammoths don't have a physics mesh after I pincusioned one from a cliff, then ran down to jump on top of it.

Is the henchman chick invincible? I've had run ins with mammoths and giants and based on where she was positioned in the fight, she should have been dead.

It looks to me that when she takes lethal damage she kneels down and has a time out for a while, then gets back up healed. I'm actually glad they seem to have made them unkillable (or at least very hard to kill). They would have been useless otherwise.

The Strategy Guide has that listed under "World Interactions"

World Interaction - Tailing the Thief
Prerequisite - You must steal an item and not get caught
Description - You steal an item. After a day or two, three thugs track you when you're in the wilderness, tell you they're here to punish you for stealing, and attack you. Search them for a note from the owner of the property you stole.

So apparently any theft counts. Even one where the owner is dead.

I agree, I like most of the menu but there are a few small issues where splitting things into a few more sub menus would help greatly (split Potions into potions and poisons, move crafting items out of Misc). The other big issue for me is that they should have enforced either mouse-only or keyboard-only navigation in some menus, or found a better way to handle collisions between the two input methods, because there have been many situations where I try to navigate with the keyboard but the mouse cursor happens to be highlighting something else - this can be especially problematic during chat.

Also, the constellation menu just plain sucks. It needs faster horizontal scrolling, and they should have either scrapped navigation within a constellation or fixed the keyboard navigation. If I press forward, I want to move forward along my current path, not jump up to whatever start happens to be directly in front of me because the path skews off at a slight angle. Forward/back should move along lines, left/right should choose between branching paths.

My thugs didn't even tell me anything, they just attacked. It was actually pretty funny because I'd just finished capturing a keep with the Stormcloaks, so there was a whole mob of Stormcloak soldiers there to jump to my aid. 3 thugs are no match for 15+ Stormcloaks.

Quest NPCs do this too, which is good because I've been known to get confused and accidentally attack my companions in the heat of battle.

Base Jumping + "Become Ethereal" Shout = the Closest this Game will ever get to Saints Row the Third.

I thought I'd pop this in here again for those not in the know (unheard of - how could you possibly not be able to follow this thread?!).

If you find something egregious, do a quick search for some keywords, and if you can't find anything, be a doll. Post a bug.

No need to be in the wilderness, they jumped me as I came out of a shop in Riverwood. Or tried to ... as a straight up mage fighting against a group in a town is difficult to do without accidentally attacking some resident NPC. After I reloaded, I led them out of the town first to fight them.

Sounds like Scientology with tangible benefits.

Didn't realize that I spent seven hours playing last night. It didn't feel like seven hours.

I was about to post this and then figured someone must have already. This was amazing to me.

#1 - Because I did just this in Fallout New Vegas. There were times where I would be walking encumbered with all kinds of garbage I didn't need just in case the economy required me to sell every little burnout out book I found.

#2 - As soon as I started playing Skyrim I started picking up every basket I came upon.

You people are freaks. Four pages in just seven hours? Freaks I tell you.

I love you all.

Is it just me or is it a little TOO easy to get certain people to follow you into ridiculously perilous situations? I mean, with Lydia it makes SOME kind of sense; she's a Nord, you're her Thane, protecting you is what makes her honorboner hard-- but otherwise, what does THAT conversation go like?

You: Hey, who wants to go fight a freaking dragon? You know, thirty-foot-long flying firebreathing death lizard? Who's up for that?
Elfy McArcherpants: Well, you DID deliver that love note for me....
Drunky Barflychick: Does that mean you don't need me? Because you DID beat me in a bar fight, so clearly I owe you a solid.

I just ran into my first flame astronaut tonight! It whooped me good the first two times, then I just barely managed to drop it on the third try. I like how their projectiles (and magic in general) has some real weight to it. It's nice to be hit and get knocked down, flung around, etc.

It's unwieldy and obtuse for keyboard + mouse -- note that the article only refers to XBox360 controller buttons.

Maybe I should go back to Dragonsreach, and ask Lydia to follow me, after all?

I'm also looking forward to a mod that'll make it easier to find my horse after a fight. Despite the reports of horses fighting various monsters, it took me a while to figure out where my horse went while I was fighting Ice Wraiths near the Weynon Stones and a dragon near Winterhold.

The fact that the horse lived through all that, though, marks a significant improvement over Oblivion.

Spoiler:

I'm only level 5 so far, and recently became a werewolf after joining up with the Companions. Don't have a clue where that's going to lead but I'm enjoying it so far!

Speaking of collecting. I suffer from the addiction also. I've made a special note though I'm trying to collect hearts from all the races. So far I've got a human heart and a deadra heart. Collecting actual hearts speaks so much better to me than working for the admiration of the people I run across.

Heh nice shot! I also like how the candle makes it look as if the back of your armor is smoking. Rough.. day...

Just read some article regarding unlimited gold glitch on Kotaku, which is 'advertised' in the steam library window under Skyrim's play button.
Oh, my God, so much hate on one page of comments. It made me a little sad inside for a brief moment.

I am so glad I'm part of this community.

You're not helping folks by quoting it. I think stuff like that should be spoiler tagged, still.

You need to eat them so you can use them in alchemy. That's what I did the moment I got my first human heart.
