On Dec. 11, exactly 30 days after release I plan to buy Skyrim. The same 30-day rule will apply to Battlefield. Until then I plan to live vicariously through all of you. From the inside - dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Then why are you playing MW3? You shoulda went BF3, but that's just my opinion, man.

Wait. What thread is this? :P

Sorry one more slight derail. I bought MW3 cause I knew it would just work. And it did. I love it.

I also love BF3 and Skyrim but I am waiting to play those when they are all bandaged up and ready for my loving. Also Logan Decker of PC Gamer magazine suggested the 30-day wait for PC games to avoid: heartbreak, rage, stress, more heartbreak followed by tearing out of hearts, etc.

I'm going to get f*cking divorced over this game. Wife is not happy.

That is all.

Oh, and walking backwards for better positioning is a good strategy in an Elder Scrolls game, especially when you have 3 or 5 people hitting you at once. This isn't quite an action RPG where you can run in guns blazing and come out the other side, you do have to be a bit more careful (especially with archers raining hellfire down on you). So, don't be afraid to walk backwards while facing an enemy. They'll probably miss you with their swing and the enemies will separate so you can take them on one at a time.

Ok thanks for the tips, i'll keep in mind the backwards walking. I havent played that much and basically the thing i found hard in the fighting is not being sure if i was at a position to hit something... but like i said since i didnt play that much... time will probably help.

Since i'm more used to action game, the problem i got is the gun blazing part!!! But i'm willing to learn other type of game. And like i said the game just looks like a lot of fun!! Can't wait to play it again.

I'll try to keep posting my progress and love of the game.

Thanks

My new Pc won't be here till Tuesday. I guess the dragons will have to wait for me. How is the equipment in the game? Is there alot of choices to be made on gear?

Gah, I totally had no plans to buy this game and now I just bought it anyway. Filthy enabling.
I need to study for a while to make up for it.

Wow. That does look like Rohan from the movies. Inspired by?

I'm pretty sure it's a case of movie and game both drawing from the same real-world sources for inspiration, but still it was a surprise when I came over the hill.

Er, if I turn into a vampire and can't be cured I'm going to be upset that I have to start a new character or backtrack a bunch

I'm glad I came from a different angle then because I didn't think of Rohan when I saw it. But you're probably correct about the whole using real-world examples.

First impressions:

PC interface sucks. Looks and feels like it was designed for a console. Confusing and poor mouse control on the menus (start out with WASD, if you're having trouble). Equipping items is not intuitive.

Graphics - Underwhelming. Nice, but not revolutionary (and it auto-detected me at Ultra High quality). Bethesda, you still suck at animation. And the hair options are atrocious. Plus, your skin tone options are very harsh. I couldn't make a hot dude. At least, not the way I like it.

Settle down Francis

Other people are saying so it must be a problem, but is it due to not configuring it to the way you want yet? I dont have the slightest problem with the UI. I bound all the important keys to what i want and i zip along without a single slowdown.

Good morning Tamriel! I just finished taping the blinds shut to darken the room (Yesss feels like high school again) and it's time to mount some chariots and chuck some cabbages.

Just in case anyone else's ears are getting shredded by that Skill tree 'glow' sound effect (moving between the various skill trees, when the constellation glows), I whipped up a quick file that mutes those sounds. Just extract it into your Skyrim data folder and you should be good to go.

Robear and Cubby can't stop playing. I have refrained for the moment.......

A simple cure disease potion should do the trick (as long as you take it before actually becoming a vampire). I don't know how far, or where you are, but I'm fairly certain that the trader in Riverwood sells them for somewhere around 245 gold each.

On an unrelated note: I just found M'aiq the Liar!

One of us! One of us! One of us!

I'm playing a sneaky, dagger-wielding character (on the 360). I'm trying to figure out which perks I plan to take and one thing bothers me about the One-Handed perks. The Bladesman perks use the word "sword"-- does this mean the perk does not apply to daggers? If so, it seems like daggers get a little shafted with perks.

On the magic front, spouting a continuous stream of fire from your hands is much cooler than the ranged fireball spells in Oblivion.

This game is different than most rpg's because there are no classes. The races have different skills and starting bonuses, but in the long run those don't mean much. Try different styles out and see what works. The more you do something the better you get at it. Also, trying different styles will have you ranking up in those different skills and leveling up faster. It's very free form in how you can mold your character.

Does anyone know what the different difficulty levels do? I'm playing on Adept right now and it has been basically challenge-free from level one. I don't want to up the difficulty just to make the enemies have more hitpoints though.

Liquid`Tyler (SC2 pro)'s wife is playing Skyrim on his stream. Might be interesting to see a more girly playthrough after watching Day9 for 8 hours goofing around xD http://no.twitch.tv/liquidtyler

Having steam open while I'm at the computer isn't helping my wait any(Amazon is forecasting a 29th of Nov arrival, I hope it doesn't actually take that long). All I see are messages popping up "X is now playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim".

Essentially, "Everyone is playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Why aren't you, you cheap bastard".

Loving the updates but I may have to go into blackout mode here pretty soon to keep my finger off the buy button on Steam. Except for Puce, keep it coming Puce, your take on this game is fascinating and entertaining me to no end. Love it.

Part of me is a little sad that there isn't as much geographical diversity in Skyrim as there was in Oblivion. Fallout wore on me after a while because of the depressing, universally brown and dreary environments and I worry Skyrim will have the same effect on me.

And then I see things like this:

And I stop worrying.

I put it on Master from the start and it's been pretty easy so far. Granted, I pretty much sneak all the time (prefer that movement speed) and slowly engage and retreat, etc., etc. I have been killed a couple of times though, when I've been careless and let myself get surrounded, though I've been killed far more often by inanimate objects (such as my war chariot and trying to kick kettles around). The enemy health hasn't seemed too bad, though more arrows than I would like are required to take down things. Granted, the same applies to the player, so I guess it balances out.

Hey I just found my first in-dungeon trap! I was very pleased to discover that enemies (or inanimate objects) can trigger a trap, and they do respectable damage (at least the big swinging spike door does). That's awesome.

I think the game karmatically told me fast traveling is bad. I went exploring up north and was too low a level and kept dying, even by random wildlife outside of dungeons. So after about 5 attempts at trying to walk back to the first main city and dying, i decided to fast travel. I chose to fast travel to a farm right outside the city. As soon as I load in, I'm facing a wall and I hear a big thud and a rumble behind me. I turn around and there is a dragon there who just roasts me. I decided I'm walking everywhere from now on.

In Fallout fast travel/waiting/sleeping would often update behavior/packages, 'wake-up' scripted events, etc., so it may be the same with Skyrim. That's a heck of a surprise when zipping to a new location though.

Has anyone else gotten a bit of a Bioshock feel in some of the elements? The health bars, the magic hand, the way food heals, etc. I know a lot of these elements cross-pollinate from a lot of different games, but there have been a few times when I almost expected Andrew Ryan to tell me to quit ****ing around with that cabbage cart and go find the golden claw or similar. Good stuff!

In the stealth tree there's a perk that allows daggers to have 15(16?)X backstab dmg
