The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Thread

Pages

This is the place to talk about Skyrim mods for all you tweaky PC types.

To start, a way to change your FOV and a few other basic things found here.

You can hit ~ in game and type FOV 80 (or whatever number) to change it in game.

I was about to look up that FOV thing. Thanks for saving me the trouble Certis.

I've been told that changing the FOV that way disables achievements. For those that care.

Great idea, not that I usually do too much moding at first.

If it does, and it shouldn't, then screw the achievements.

I will be in this thread, guaranteed. I was somewhat of an Oblivion mod junkie for a while

A few more ini tweaks can be found here:

EDIT:

Oh, and Tweakguides.com is working on a guide, and in the meantime has posted this HD video of maxed settings. (For now they recommend disabling vsync as one of the best ways to get extra FPS.)

I'm so glad FOV was one of the first things discovered.

Someone please let me know when there is a mod for the look sensitivity. X is normal, Y is super slow with a mouse. Honestly, Looking up and down is a pain.. it shouldn't be like that!

It might disable some of them. I cleared the Bleak Falls Barrow dungeon but I didn't get the associated achievement. But, I did get the level 5 achievement after changing my fov. If they're going to disable achievements because you changed your fov, they probably shouldn't have made the default so annoyingly narrow.

Ya know, I just checked and I didn't get that particular achievement either. Whatever. Their stupid FOV can kiss my ass. I'm just going to have fun playing the game.

I can confirm that changing the FOV via the console does not affect the achievements.

Edit: It seems it may affect some achievements and not others. Not sure how that works, but I really don't care at this point.

Ooh. All this talk of mods gets me excited. I hope my preorder comes today, and that the mod community comes through on this one.

Now, I just need to finish the Witcher 2...

You know, the mouse has been around for a long time. Like 50 years. And in that time, few gamers have ever requested extra mouse acceleration, wonky-ass smoothing, or non-configurable X/Y sensitivity differentials. And yet, practically every PC game that comes out includes one of these things.

It's not hard, devs. Delta mouse X = delta x degrees * sensitivity. Delta mouse Y = delta y degrees * sensitivity. Period.

I didn't think I cared, until I found out that changing something so basic may disable them. I'm not going to worry about it for now. I'm sure some mod/utility will be available for my second play through down the road that will fix the problem.

Tagging for when I need this thread.

That's so lazy. You could at least try to think of something useful to say to tag the thread.

Look at you tagging along on my coat tails

You get the Barrow achievement a little while after clearing the Barrow, depending on how closely you hew to the main quest.

Ahhhhh. That makes more sense.

Last mod I wrote was for Neverwinter Nights. But maybe Skyrim will inspire me. And in any case I'll be watching to see what the community comes up with.

You don't need to use the console to change FOV:

Also, that link shows you how to get rid of mouse acceleration, which may help with the sluggishness.

What is this "main quest" that you speak of?

PC Gamer has a more complete article about the current tweaks.

My mind reels at the fact that VSync is not only turned on by default, but is not an option that is configurable in the game. Seriously? Someone at Bethesda thought it was a good idea to always turn on a feature that is almost guaranteed to halve your framerate? *Sigh*

Thanks for those links, Garion. I'll definitely be upping my tree shadows and water reflections.

That's good to hear. That begs the question - Why are people pointing it out as a .ini tweak?

Ok if your an ESDF'er like me or otherwise having problems with the hotkeys and rebinding F and losing the favorite ability here is a workaround I did.

http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php...

Also in the process I made a list of the hotkeys better categorized u might find useful, just a couple of notes as well in case people get confused with wording and the interface.

1) When you are in a menu, Tab is the universal backspace/exit in the menu even if not stated. Seriously if you get lost in any menu and just want to get the hell out hit tab.

2) You have three speeds Walk, Run, and Sprint, You can toggle walk/run for default but Sprint is your fastest speed that eats stamina and must be an activated key.

3) Your main hand is your right hand (dual weild two melee weapons to see), cause Bethesda is prejudice that way. Since thats your main they put it on the left mouse button (ala primary). But on the screen your hitting left for your right hand and right for your left (and im dyslexic ahhhhhhh). I think it works far better reversing the default and mapping left to left and right to right.

4)The Character Menu is the top level menu, you dont need to go through this radial menu , you can get to all the sub-menus through hotkeys

5) While in your inventory the undocumented C key will allow you to focus and rotate on the 3d inventory object.

6) To use 1-8 to bring up quick spells/inventory/etc favorite an item or spell, then bring up the favorite menu hold the mouse cursor over the favorited item or spell and press a 1-8 key.

7) F12 takes a screenshot through the steam overlay (note: for all steam games). PrintScreen will save to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim.

And off by default for me.

Please take a screenshot as this does not exist for me.

Ditto for no vsync option, the above-linked tweaks work for me though so no biggie.

If you're like me and prefer not to have the little compass that shows you where the closest undiscovered locations are, you can open skyrimprefs.ini in the My Games\Skyrim directory and search for bshowcompass=1 and change the 1 to 0 to make it go away while still retaining the popup for take/steal/talk/etc (if you want them both gone just set your HUD opacity to 0 in the game options.
