NFL 2011 Week 9

Speaking of QBs, I hope yesterday's game shows why Eli Manning is an under-rated QB. Sure, he's not in the Elite catagory, but he is definitely rated higher than most of the QBs playing in today's league. I know 1 game shouldn't make a career, but this is the 2nd time Eli has led the Giants on a last minute game-winning drives vs the Patriots (on the road), and he's putting up some nice stats this year (QB Rating: 98.8, 2377 yds, 15 TD, and 6 Ints). Not that Eli will ever be better than Peyton, but he's put up similar stats, with the only glaring difference being Peyton threw 49 TDs in his 7th full season. Eli is currently in his 7th full season.

(First 7 seasons, including Eli's 1st year and this season, which equals a 16 game season)
Eli Manning: 25023 Yds, 171 TDs, and 119 Int
Peyton Manning: 29442 Yds, 216 TDs, and 120 Ints

Ints are even, Peyton has 4000 more yards, and 45 more TDs. Also, I would like to poise the question, did Eli ever have a WR with the calibur of Reggie Wayne or Marvin Harrison? Plaxico Burress may have been his best WR, and I don't think you place him in the same category as Wayne or Harrison. Also, Peyton did not have a SB ring by this point in his career. Eli is (4-3) in the playoffs, Peyton is (9-10). Peyton has been league MVP 4 times, to Eli's 0.

My assessment, Eli Manning is not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. He'll never be a league MVP, but he's closer to MVP than the league's worst QB.

Eli is an excellent QB no doubt.. but he still has a pie face!!!!

At this rate, the Texans will score 56.

What? You've never made a crap pick before?

Weird that you didn't correct me back when I first posted this, but in any case, my bad. Your first post shows the Texans in bold. I can't read good.

:P

I concur with you sir, this was never in question

GG, we agreed on two different points. I'll wish your Eagles good luck tonight, I did pick them to win.

Well, I assumed your Aggie edyamacayshun was up to snuff and did not bother checking my picks until I went back this morning to see how badly I had done.

How does the league let Pittsburgh get away with always having such a crappy field? I swear every time I watch a game at their stadium the field condition is totally awful. It looks like they are running on green painted sand out there.

I sure do love to watch Philip Rivers lose.

Hey Rivers — second worst day ever?

Depends on which team you ask. The Packers probably would tell you he's just as good at throwing Packer TDs as Rodgers is

Er, I thought you were a Redskins fan?

I'm starting to feel sorry for Tebow for the fact I have never gotten the impression he wants this amount of scrutiny or publicity.

Why is the 2nd topic at the half for this game about Tebow?

They should be talking about how awful Rivers (someone we all can love to hate) is and how amazing Rodgers is.

Who replaced Cutler and the Bears O-line with actual football players?

You'd be amazed how good the Eagles can make another team look when they try.

Really? He's an NFL quarterback who has won two BCS titles and a Heisman trophy. Publicity/scrutiny is part of the package.

He never asked for this.

He probably prayed for it, though.

With such a loving fan base you'd think the Eagles would play harder. I mean who doesn't want to get booed off the field at the end of a game?

It's more than publicity/scrutiny, though. It's more like a political issue. Two sides that have taken up "positions" and just hurl back and forth at each other over it, with nobody stopping to actually examine the issue rationally.

The discussion is either, "SEE? Look at this one replay! Tim Tebow CAN be an NFL quarterback!", or "SEE? Look at that awful throw! Tim Tebow CAN'T be an NFL quarterback!".

All of this certainty and inflexibility on a guy 6 starts into his NFL career.

I too have an opinion of Tebow that I've shared here many times: I don't think he has the arm for sustained NFL success, I think he will be Doug Flutie 2.0 in that he'll be a fan favorite and he will make some wins happen with his run-around playmaking ability, but those successes will be limited to brief bursts and then fade.

But I'm not going to say that that opinion is a guaranteed certainty, only 6 starts into an NFL career.

I will, however, continue to enjoy a teensy bit of schadenfreude when Tebow struggles and tests the faith of the True Believers.

We only boo because we care! You always hurt the ones you love the most.

Why is it always the other team playing bad and not the Bears playing well?

Haters

Its usually a combination of both.. but yes I would agree that primarily the Eagles looked bad last night because Chicago did some interesting things on defense that confused Vick and the coaches throughout the game..

This team is not good enough to win against good teams though.. that is flat out the truth.. if you lose to the Eagles this year you are a bad team.

Right but at the same time its not like hes personally giving us the fuel to hate him. Hes not claiming to be Tom Brady (Eli), modeling in the off season like Sanchez (he probably did and I'll be proven wrong), or has the Rivers/Manning face that is so easy to hate. No dog fighting rings.... No Jessica Simpson....

Just saying I find it strange that he gets air time while we have a guy like Rivers who is 1 pick from matching his highest season total already....

Or that Flacco cant piece together a game to beat the Jags yet can run a two minute drill vs Pitt. Or that Alex Smith is 7-1.

For me Tebow is such a non story that when he comes up it infuriates me. At the same time I'm sympathetic because he probably knows he sucks and doesn't need every snap he takes under a microscope.

For the most part, Tebow shuts up and works.

Outside of the "thank you mom for not aborting me" Super Bowl commercial (to this day, my wife uses this as her reference point for who Tebow is), he hasn't really invited the extra attention. And to his credit, he hasn't complained about it or used it as an excuse either.

QFT from Deadspin: Whenever Tim Tebow takes a knee on the field and thanks God, he is engaging in a very conscious act of moral grandstanding. ... Tebow is saying, "Look at me," just as surely as Deion Sanders doing the pigeon wing in the end zone was saying, "Look at me."

Whether or not you should hate him or mock him because of this is up to you, and whether you think he gets too much attention is a whole different discussion. But Tebow is most definitely not shunning the spotlight.

For me, making fun of Tebow isn't about ripping on him it's about sticking it to his fans. It's the same reason I take so much pleasure in the Vikings losing. I really hate their fans.

Where's the flak for the other 3/4 of the league that does this same thing? (kneel after TDs, etc)
