Grand Theft Auto V

Put me in the camp of people who thought Saints Row 2 was better than GTA IV and hopes for a return to a less serious game and more fun. It's good to remember the "play" in "gameplay".

At least have a jetpack this time. And blackjack.

So I was thinking about the fun missions in GTA games I think my favorite is the one from Vice City where you had to do all the jumps on a motorcycle from building to building to advertise the porn movie. Also the RC missions in San Andreas were a lot of fun if I am remembering them correctly.

What about the rest of you?

Yea everything after the first city and the street gang stuff was downhill. So much so that I would actually be down with them revisiting this setting/time but making it the whole focus of the game. No extra citys, no countryside, nothing but 90's gangsta rap and gangbangers in a fictional remake of 1990's LA.

Wouldn't mind seeing them take the series back to London either. Make the humor and stuff British instead of American.

I suspect constraining it to a single city would just lead to a rerun of IV. Part of what I thought was great about SA was the sheer ballsy scale of it. As long as the story was tight and there was a good fast travel system I see no reason why it shouldn't be large.

I like how large it was at the time, but since then I have come to enjoy smaller, more detailed worlds more than larger, largely empty ones like in SA and Just Cause 2.

And hookers. In fact, forget the blackjack.

How about hookers with jetpack who chew Blackjack bubblegum?

the next GTA should be set on the Jersey Shore.

five guidos, picked to live in a vacation house...

I just realized what I want: GTA Vice. You can play as a dirty vice cop in Miami. It would be LA Noire, in today's Miami, with a "steal the evidence?" or "take the bribe?" option.

Please deliver, Rockstar! I'd take back the bad things I've said about GTA IV.

I just had a look at calendar and realized that today's the day.

I'm wondering if it will be a vague teaser like this first one for GTA4:

The more I think about it, the more DC seems like an ideal candidate for GTA V.

I've never seen Washington more ripe for social commentary satire. Congressional gridlock. Tea-party zealotry. Economic disarray. Global disenchantment with US. Record-high distrust of government. Failed overseas policy (Middle East).

The last time I can think of such ire against Washington was during the Vietnam War years.

Rockstar could have a field day lampooning a "broken" US government.

Not sure if it hits too close to home, but man is there a lot of material out there just waiting to be picked at.

The thing is, GTA is a massive game, they would probably have started laying the foundations for the next one as soon as GTA4 was done, and varying levels of production as the patches/DLC were finished. By comparison the political world moves too fast.

I don't think it's a far-fetched prediction to assume that people wouldn't be entirely pleased with the government. I mean, if I were to start developing a game today and made it a parody about the ineptitude of the government, do you think it'll have a meaningful message five years from now? Bashing the government is timeless!

Now I hope it'll be about Rockstar's version of Washington. I can already see the Time articles talking about the deep commentary GTAV makes about U.S. society and how much the series has grown to be a form of social criticism.

I think washington would be a good one as I'd like to see them on fresh territory, than retreading old ground. But then there's a lot of things I'd like to see them do in GTA that I don't expect them to ever do.

California.

The video keeps stopping at 1:03, but from what I saw it's looking pretty good. Hopefully it will be out on PC at the same time.

Edit:Just realized it's gonna be one hell of an install size on the 360.

Yep, back to San Andreas. I had myself all psyched up for DC, but San Andreas was a hell of a good time, will be fun to return to it.

I was kinda hoping for DC or Vice City. I liked San Andreas, but it was so overwhelming that I just never finished it.

I guess it's the industry, if it's big it's gotta be a sequel.

But from the trailer, looks like its going to be a contemporary satire, which should be fun. It was also very understated and seemed to focus on the ills of the city more than the toys. First blush is a GTA IV type of story in San Andreas.

I saw mountains! I better be able to ride a Sanchez all the way up those f*cking mountains, Rockstar!

It looks like the Euphoria engine returns, which I'm really happy about. Of course, it was in Red Dead, so why wouldn't they continue to use it? I just hope they change the aiming to Red Dead style. I heard a rumor that they were changing it, but we won't know until they talk about gameplay in about 6 months.

Looks nice and all, but kind of...tired.

Generally speaking, that's where I am. If you ignore the big name I ask myself why I would want to play through the same kind of thing again, where I could go play something fresh.

Ugh. Revisiting San Andreas? Generic seeming character? Excitement level has plummeted. It looks more like a GTAIV expansion than a sequel. Probably a pass for me.

My favorite part was the In-N-Out parody (Up-N-Atom).

I'm sure I won't pass, as I've generally loved all the modern GTA games, but man if it doesn't feel like a missed opportunity. Funny, but I usually don't associate "safe" and "Rockstar" in the same sentence, but man the setting seems kind of lazy at first blush.

Hype deflated, but I'm sure it will build back up as more info/media is revealed leading up to launch.

Shame they are returning to San Andreas hard to say if that will be a good or bad thing. I thought the character narration sounded like they might be doing a goodfellas type plot, which could have a lot of potential. Still likely a pass from me unless all the reviews heap praise on it's "amazing new combat and driving systems".

The narrator may be Tommy Vercetti (Vice City)
