An early morning police raid of the Stonewall Inn gay bar sparked a series of protests and demonstrations in New York City, followed up a year later by the first gay pride marches in several major cities.
Welcome and happy “90th Anniversary of Amelia Earhart’s first solo flight across the Atlantic” week! She was already the first woman to fly across the Atlantic as a passenger, and then as a pilot with a co-pilot, so this was about securing the solo record. It took her 17 hours to fly from Newfoundland to Wales in a Lockheed Vega plane that was still mostly made from wood and glue.
