Games and Platforms

If there is one universal truth to this outline it is that we retain the right to change these rules at any time. These are guidelines of what we generally expect, and simply because we haven't explicitly stated here that you can't do X doesn't mean you, by default, can. Generally I don't like Codes of Conduct because it implies that the forum members don't know the appropriate way to act in a public forum. My feeling has always been that if you need these rules to know how to act, then you're probably not going to be here long.

Steam Community

It's live - I've taken the liberty of creating a GWJ group. Here's the link:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/GWJ

But I kind of effed up. When you initially create a group, you have the choice to make it private or public. I left it private, thinking I could change it later. So far, there doesn't seem to be a way to do it.

So, until I get that figured out, link to your Steam ID here and I'll get you added to the group.

Ventrilo can be downloaded at The Ventrilo download page.

Quote:

1) Start the ventrilo program. Click on the Start button, click on Programs and then click on Ventrilo. This will display another menu option called Ventrilo that will start the actual program.

2) Click on the "->" button that is next to the first pulldown window called "User Name". This will open a new window where you can create a logon name to be used when connecting to a server.

3) Click the "New" button. This will open a small window where you can enter your logon name. The name you enter is entirely up to you. It can be your real name or a nick name, but preferably your GWJ Forum name .

We have a great many different ways to communicate and play games together these days and I thought it was about time we made a sticky to keep it all together.

Well, if there's one company that has a great track record of respectful exploration of a female character's emotions and convictions, it's Tecmo.

Yes, I'm reading into it! Seriously, how could I not?

Din's Curse

I think some people on here were previous Depths of Peril fans. They have taken another stab at a dungeon crawler which focuses upon the random nature of the experience. The general scope of the game is you try to save a town from the monsters below. You take the usual quests but you don't necessarily have forever to complete the quest. The monsters below could kill the npc you need before you get there if you take too long. The best thing so far is how the class system is set up. You can either pick one of nine or so classes or create a hybrid out of two of them.

I guess the title says it all. I played some Call of Duty: World at War with a friend, co-op online when it came out. It was fun, but as far as I could tell we couldn't save our progress. Recently we both picked up Resistance 2 thinking it had a campaign we could both play online. That game doesn't do the campaign, just individual levels I think. So what games are out there that we can run through together online and save our progress so we can play bits at a time?

First game that comes to mind is Resident Evil 5. Not sure if my friend has any interest in that one or not, though.

A new games console that will emulate the Wii as well as allowing you to play classic Sega games is being launched in the summer.

Selling for around 80$US ... any takers?

So, somehow I went like 6 months without noticing this release. Thanks to the ModDB mod of the year awards stuff, I found out about it. Basically what this is is a recreation of the Fallout world in an MMO form and it uses all the good stuff from Fallout 1 and 2.

Bringing the single player experience into a massively multiplayer game was not an easy task.

According to Major Nelson's blog the service will be discontinued for all original Xbox's and Xbox titles.

I wanted to let you know that on April 15, 2010 Microsoft will discontinue Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox 1 games playable on Xbox 360. Our first step in this process will be to turn off auto-renewals for those members who only use Xbox LIVE on a v1 Xbox.
