First Sky Captain reviews
Thought I'd post links to the first two reviews I have seen, for those of you who care. I've been looking forward to this since I first saw the trailer and I'm looking forward to it even more now.

Not sure how credible either of em are but I thought I'd post em anyway.
Angelina Jolie is one of those that can completely change her look from film to film. It''s wild. I''m with you Morrolan, I think the look is part of the draw. I''m getting totally stoked for this flick and I''m not even sure why. Oh yeah, P-40 Warhawk and Giant Freaking Robots. That''s why.

You can never go wrong with big stompy robots.

I might see it but i''m more looking foward to Ghost in the Shell... than sky captain.

Slashdot just posted a reader submitted review. No Spoilers.
Do you ever walk alone like a drifter in the dark?
The presenter, a filmmaking friend of Conran''s, closed the screening with a joke about Pete Townshend meeting Eric Clapton in a London bar and commiserating about some new kid named Hendrix, ""who''s gonna kick our asses."" He imagined that Spielberg and Lucas might soon be having a similar conversation somewhere in California. I have to agree that it seems like a distinct possibility.
Please, Uncle God, make that happen....

Yeah, I''m looking forward to this one too. It sure looks like it could be a lot of fun.

I saw the poster at the cinema and the title instantly put me off, thought it was a bit lame sounding.
Then I read the plot somewhere and thought it could be quite cool.
Then I remembered the title, LAME!! Still, never judge a book by it''s cover and all that crap
Lame? Nonsense! How can a title get *better* than Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow? My mad-scientist constructed pneumatic heart is fluttering at the mere thought of it!

Looks too much like a (very) extended game cutscene.
Everything can be debated, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's debatable.

Gotta go with ALG on this one. The sheer camp value of the title alone is priceless. Dammit, I''ve got this coming out, and I still haven''t gone to see Hero yet!

Giant robots and mad scientists hellbent on world domination!! What could be campier and cheesier? Only a Godzilla.

Who would have thought a movie called ""Star Wars"" would be any good. Of course, if it had been ""Luke Skywalker and the War of the Stars"" it might not have caught on.
I can''t wait to see Sky Captain, though. I''m dragging my wife kicking and screaming to that and Shaun of the Dead.

Looking forward to seeing this too. Should be
fun...Kind of like a improved ''Rocketeer'' on a grand scale. (loved
that movie
That''s what I thought too, the obvious similarities with ""Crimson Skies"" jumping out at me, although, yes, I know, the two are unrelated save for perhaps using the same source material. This one''s really on a razor''s edge for me, it seems like it could go either way...
Not that i''ll get to see it.

I was very excited about this film. Now I''m even more excited. Consider me sold.
I''m going to go see this. Looks great, and who can really resist a 1940''s style save the world romp?
I''ll watch it on cable. Besides, isn''t that Angelina Jolie?
I''m all for her getting more ""exposure"". Teehee!

This one is PG, keep dreaming!
Looks cold, lifeless and super cheesy!!!
I will take the kid to see it though...and then judge.

I dunno... it looks like the entire movie was just one big blue screen scene... I''m all for nice dramatic action... but there''s something about the fact that it looks more animated than real that puts me off... I''ll still probably see it eventually... but I dunno if I''d pay for it in theaters... and on that note... I''ve got to go see Garden State with the lady.

It was. Supposedly everything not actors (and their costumes, I suppose
) was all put in after the fact. Everything was shot on bluescreen.

I''m curious about this one, but somewhat doubtful as well. It started as a homebrew project by some guy in his garage, that eventually got picked up and remade by hollywood. I''ll wait and see. I know if I go my wife won''t be with me. It''s being hard enough to get her to go see hero! The only advantage, my wife might see Sky Captain since Angelina Jolie is in it.

It looks cool as hell, I''m really looking forward to seeing it. I''m wary though because the September release date is a little bit sketchy. It''s being released in a period generally known for bad films. The movie screams summer blockbuster, but the release date says avoid at all cost.
Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy - both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.

I find it amusing that the first review is from Boston Edge, your ""Gay lifestyle"" magazine.
Don''t know why, its just amusing.
I was wondering why the guy in the underwear ad seemed to be carrying quite a package.

See, trying to be cool and aloof doesn''t really work when you tag the chicky flick on the end.
Tell us you are taking her to see paparazzi instead.
The movie was originally scheduled for a week before Spider-man 2. Someone in the marketing department realized that competing with Spider-man 2 and Shrek 2 at the same time was a bad idea and so the new September date was born.
I''m definately glad they waited to release it. They''ve had time to polish it and edit it correctly and now that the summer blitz is over they can get a huge share of box office grosses without a lot of competition.

I am really excited about this movie. I''ve been looking forward to it for months. People are talking about the ''cartoony'' looks of it, but that''s one of the things I find most appealing. They really went all out in making this feel ''retro.''

To tell the truth, I really never thought that Algelina Jolie was all that attractive, and certainly not in the Tomb Raider movies, until I saw Taking Lives, [a surprisingly good thriller in itself,] in which she was flat out, 100%, unbelievably gorgeous. It''s amazing how much lighting and direction and hair/makeup can change someone''s look.
