Official Xbox Magazine made the largest leap through the first half of this year, as newsstand sales skyrocketed by 27 percent. This means that nearly 140,000 readers are dropping $9.99 each month to read up on their favorite games.
What in the hell?! Is this true?

The fact that it''s the *Official* should scare people off, wouldn''t you think? Isn''t that kind of like getting your enemy intelligence reports by asking the enemy?

I don''t have a sub but the sub is the better price overall (as per usual). It''s like 25$ a year where as yes, I drop that much for the two issues I buy every year for whatever demos Tycho tells me I need to see.

Far better than Gamepro and some others. I think it''s even at least a little better than EGM as an overall mag. They give out bad scores just as often as anybody else.
That, and since the only console I own is the Xbox.. what else do I need?
Of course, I got my subscription for free through some random web offer, so I suppose I''m irrelevant to the statistic posted.

The readers of Future''s titles are not kids. The average age of PSM is 24, and the average age of Xbox is 27. PC Gamer, which reaches the more traditional ""gamer"" who spends hours playing strategic games like Doom, has an average age of 30.
Magazines nowadays can not survive simply on reviews and previews and such. They NEED to have an inclusive disk, in order to sell. It needs exclusive stuff on it, or just big files people are unwilling to download.
What really makes a mag sell, though, are CONSOLE files, like demos or XBL content. People buy OXM because in every issue they''re getting something they could never get anywehre else.

I will sometimes pay the $8 USD for a game mag if I really want to try a demo but don''t want to download it. Typically, there has to be both reviews I want to read AND a demo I want to play. Otherwise, $8 is just too much for a magazine.
MS should implement an online demo-browser/downloader for Live!
If they''re happy with their subscriptions now, I can only imagine how many more folks would pay the monthly if they got the current package PLUS free demos of hot new games.

OXM is pretty decent.. I have a sub.
Newstand version for $10 you get a fancy plastic jewel case for your demo DVD..
Sub comes in a cardboard sleeve.
Aint nothing new about the world order..it's been playing since the day they put George Washington on a quarter

Always the best way IMO.
It''s actually a reasonable magazine.
Far better than Gamepro and some others. I think it''s even at least a little better than EGM as an overall mag. They give out bad scores just as often as anybody else.

Didn''t EB also have a drive for subscriptions to OXM? Like buy a subscription get 10% of used games? That would explain the jump in numbers.
The EB here is supported GMR Magazine.

Eb and GameStop both pushed GameInformer, their promotions angered a lot of advertisers, so they had to stop.
