What Other FPS Remake?

Well, I know it hasen't been everyone's cup of tea but I've very much enjoyed the retelling of Doom. SO if you could choose any FPS, pre 2000 to see remade what would be your choice?

For me Dark Forces would lead the list. Add co-op, give me a few more levels, keep lightsabers out of it, and bring those Dark Troopers on.

Honestly, I''d love to see some modder come in and do a faithful recreation of Doom using the new engine.

I''ve thought the same thing. And to be honest, seeing it happen would not suprise me in the least.

Im goning to have to second System Shock 2. That game was a classic and I would love to see what they could do with it using a modern game engine.

Yup, wouldn''t mind seeing Duke 3D or Outlaws being remade. Duke was pure fun and featured coop as well as a great DM mode. Outlaws was a very atmospheric title - awesome soundtrack.

I love Ultima Underworld, but I''m not listing it here since to me it is as much FPS as Morrowind is.

Yes! Those two were among my most favorite games of all time! Of course I think they should make new versions of X-wing and Tie Fighter as well!

That isn''t exactly a shooter, but I''d love to see a remake of Interstate ''76. That game OWNED. The setting, the music, the gameplay... I loved all the mods that came out after the game release. There was a map with a huge ramp and a yard-marked football field so you could make an online car jump competition. There was another map with an elevated raceway with dangerous ledges so you could drive off the other players off the track and watch them crash and burn. There were so much possibilities! A remake of that game with Havok physics and completely destructible cars would be a dream come true!

I''m still waiting on my Starflight remake. I too would love to see an I''76 remake as well. System Shock 2 would be high on my list.

System Shock would be excellent, if done faithfully.

I would love to see Blood remade too. No other game has given as much joy as that game when it came to shooting flares at the bad guys, lighting them on fire and laugh as they ran around screaming ""It burns!!""

Jesus, looking back at that statement make me think it might be time to go back to therapy.

The original System Shock would be nice. The old interface was pre-mouselook, and it takes a lot of getting used to after being accustomed to almost 10 years of WASD. The whole cyberspace thing might look interesting with some post MCP-from-Tron graphics, too.

Oh yeah, Interstate 76! I can''t get enough of Taurus'' one-liners.
And while we''re at it, a remake of Carmageddon would be great too.

If you long for UU, try Arx Fatalis. It''s a total clone of that great classic, only with a different scenario... you can even enable the cheat code to play in UU''s blocky graphic mode.

You guys are gonna laugh, but - even though I never got past level 1 or 2 - I''d love to see an updated-to-recent-engine Redneck Rampage. That thing just cracked me up to no end.

Also, Rise of the Triad. Or, if not the whole thing, then just put Magic Mushrooms in any FPS and I''d be happy. Again, those things cracked me up every time. Games need more effects like that, which may be one of the reasons I''m really looking forward to Call of Cthuulu.

Ooh, and another remake I''d like to see is the original Castle Wolfenstein from the Apple ][+. I know some of the Unreal mods are top-downs/isometrics, so I think it''d be neat to change absolutely NOTHING in the game other than to port it to a new engine - nothing, I tell you.

Ah yes, Redneck Rampage. Only if they kept those little bad guys that threw chunks of crap at you while yelling ""Turd-pee!"" in it (I think they were in the third or fourth level, which I''m a little ashamed to admit I know). A fully realized, polygon modeled chuck of poo with proper physics behind it used as a weapon? That''s gaming money in the bank.

ROTT would be excellent too. Drunk missles, mushroom pickups, changing into a dog and eating the bad guys for health, and that damned snaking boss fight I could never win. Ahh, good times.

How about Shadow Warrior? Anyone?

Oh wow, so many Build engine games that were awesome. Shadow Warrior, Blood, ROTT, Redneck Rampage. There was alot of mileage out of that engine, and great games to boot.

Interstate 76 for me, I loved that game so much I basically learned to drive playing it. It''s also the reason I can''t stand racing games that don''t let you shoot people. Awesome, awesome game.

Admittedly not a ''true'' FPS, but I''d love to see a remake of Deus Ex. Get a visual staff with artistical talent on it, let them rewrite a few of the rushed dialogues, implement plausible physics, and I''ll gleefully waste yet another summer on it.

Forseeably, my close second would be a remake of Thief 1 & 2.

And if I haven't seen further, it's because those bloody giants blocked my sight.

For me it''s tough to beat Magic Carpet 2 though. Great single player. Great great multiplayer. God I miss that game.

Yes, yes, hell YES! I would plunk down some of the kids college fund for that in a heartbeat. Dog mode PWNZ YUO!

I also wouldn''t mind seeing an update of Shogo...it''s one of the few FPS games since Doom 1&2 and ROTT that I''ve played through more than once (and not just ''cause it''s short, dammit!). Giant death-dealing robots are a criminally underused device in FPS games.

How glad will you be when they release it with a price sticker on it? (Metaphorically speaking since it will probably only be released through steam and the only way to pay for it will be putting a direct connection between steam and your bank account)

I got no problem with that...

Honestly mang, how can you call Doom III a System Shock 2 remake? There''s of course the caveat that I haven''t played it yet, but by all accounts Doom III is an extremely linear corridor shooter, while Shock 2 is an action rpg. That they share the point of view and some narrative devices doesn''t mean they''ve anywhere near the same design goals or aesthetics.

But back to the topic at hand. Although I''d much rather see more new ideas and games, if I''d have to pick one I''d like to see revisited it''d be SHOGO: Mobile Armour Division. So many excellent ideas, and so much left unfinished. Also: BIG! STOMPY! ROBOTS!

And the Bullgut. Mmmmm.
