[SpyNavy Don't Read!] - Welcome Home SpyNavy
Saturday, July 31st, 2004 - 10:18pm
SpyNavy is coming home from Iraq this week. I think we ought to do something to welcome him home. I don't have much to spend on gifts, but I figure we could come up with something creative and cheap (or free?) to make him feel good about coming home.
Any ideas?

I would chip in for a welcome home game or something if someone wanted to start a paypal fund.
I''m up for it. Anyone know how to do the paypal thing?

Well if he wasn''t set on an alienware system, I would contribute to his hardware fund. Im sure we could raise more than enough for one game.

Question is, are there any games he hasn''t already pre-ordered and paid for?

After the GWJ''s T-shirts deal teetering on a brink of collapse, and the mugs deal ending in outright fiasco, I don''t these here people have any disposable income. Yet, would be glad to participate.
It doesn''t have to be a game. We could get him a piece of hardware -- a new mouse, or some more RAM, or maybe even a new HD if some more people open up those pocketses.

How''s about a saluting Stan in desert fatigues on the front page? (Maybe with a banner that says ""Welcome home, SpyNavy!"")

Spy should feel really special. He has a whole group of people welcoming him home. I''ve been braving the dangerous jungles of my girlfriend''s house and constantly have to deal with the stealy gaze of Japanese every day. The most I will get is a ""Welcome home son, we''re off to Ireland tomorrow"".

That sounds like a great idea, but it isn''t my site
Other than that, maybe a gift certificate or something?

Let me know what you decide, and I''m in.
Edit - Did he order a shirt? That might be nice...

I could try to help out too but I do not use paypal so not sure how that would work.
Maybe a gift certificate to his favorite place (EB) or something? I have some PC games I can give him that are interesting. Once Upon a Knight, and uh I think I still have my triple copy of Cold Zero, Aquanox, and that other JoWood game laying around.

I think the GWJ T-Shirt or polo shirt if there are any left is the best idea I have seen so far.

What a nice idea, hubbinsd! I''m in with a PayPal contribution.
Spy mostly likely will have a lot of games to catch up on when he gets home so maybe an EB gift card would be a good idea. That would cover both PC and consoles at least.
Someone''s going to have to wrangle his home address out of him though, if we get something to send to him.

Let''s make him up some fake discharge papers and post them on the forums! I bet he''d love that

Ok, EBGames has an online gift card. I say we aim for one of those. $25 or $50, depending on how much we get.
I''ll take Paypal contributions and we can just email him the gift card with a welcome home message.
The only catch is that I''m leaving for vacation on Tuesday, so let''s try to get it together quickly. I''ll say Monday at 6:00 PM EST will be the cut-off for contributions.
So send your Paypal contributions to hubbinsd@yahoo.com. I''ll plan to buy the card and send it Monday night.
[edit]DOH. I just realized I don''t have his email address and he probably en route and won''t check his personal messages until after Monday night. Does anyone have his email?

Wow, you guys are awesome!! We have just over $100! I was thinking we''d aim for a $25-50 gift, but obviously he''ll haver a much more generous homecoming. I''ll keep taking dough until 6 this evening and then order the gift card...

How do I do the Paypal thing or can I just send you a certified check?
Here ya go. Goods(Other) was the right payment type, right? The only time I use Paypal is when we''re chipping in for stuff around here, so I never can remember.

I''d rather not deal with checks etc...Paypal is at paypal.com. We''re in pretty good shape, so don''t sweat it...

Damn, I missed this. Are you all still accepting donations?

Gah! My credit card is still wrapped up in this ridiculous double charge we got from a Japanese company. I don''t think it will be sorted out in time. Nice to see we got some great contributions though, he''ll be tickled. In a manly army sort of way I mean.

Waiting on my email from paypal to reset my password. I forgot it.
