First Doom 3 Review - 94% from PCG mag
Tuesday, July 13th, 2004 - 8:33pm
Highs: Extraordinary graphics and sound; incredible tension, atmosphere, and mayhem.
Lows: Some stabs at humor fall a bit flat.

I have yet to determine if this is real but I hope it is.
Update:http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=8150476
Xbox Live: Kooter06

It would be nice if someone scanned the actual review.
I think someone will scan before the night is over. I may go see if I can find it on the shelves.
Another update:
Bottom Line: Just as we''d hoped, it''s a non-stop ride of tension, carnage and terror. A new classic.
Game Length:20 hours or so (took the reviewer 24)
Xbox Live: Kooter06
I don''t think it is real.
For instance, there are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108 stitches in a baseball. When I learned that, I gave Jesus a chance. ~Ron Shelton, Bull Durham, 1988
Well, if I get my X800 XT, i might pick this up. Just to have something to force my poor little system to its knees.

Kyrator: lvl 63 night elf rogue - Blackhand
Thadryn: lvl 70 draenei mage - Blackhand
It''s real.
If it''s real, the Shack would have been told to pull that info or edit that post.

Scans of covers are allowed, that''s why the post hasn''t been nuked.
The info is real.
And how do you know this? Better question, how did this person allegedly get this issue this far in advance?

I have my sources.
Also, PC Gamer subscribers should be getting their copies in the mail this week.
Rat Boy, great signature line. On what page did you find that quote?
Oh, and I think the scoop is probably crap.
Have a nice day.

I don''t know. Some website quoted it and I just stole it for my self.
The figure I have trouble believing above all else is the 20 hours of gameplay. That runs completely counter to everything that''s been implied or promised by id over the past couple of years. If nothing else, that''s the one thing that makes me dismiss this until I see the real mag for myself.
Either way, PC Gamer''s been fairly easy on their scores for ""event games"" such as this. The atrocious system requirements, might as well be non-existant multplayer, and my general apathy towards arcadey shooters these days makes this a non-buy for me, especially if there is no demo, but other than that, I''ll wait for the X-Box version to rent.

Its real...
in a few days the masses will have it...
Doom 3 will be incredible if you have the full blown setup...
Sound will be huge in this game.. I''m really glad I have my 23"" Screen, X800XT:PE, Audigy 2ZS with my logitech surround sound..
This is the game my system has been waiting for.. damn I''m pysched.

By ''it'' do you mean the game, or the review?

Kyrator: lvl 63 night elf rogue - Blackhand
Thadryn: lvl 70 draenei mage - Blackhand
no the review...as stated before the magazine will be reaching subs this week..
Aug 3rd is pretty good for the date...though it may be the 10th.

I figured as much, just thought I''d double check. I had money earmarked for Tales of Symphonia this week, but Doom3 might have made me think twice about that.

Whether or not this is real nobody''s asked the real question, do we care? I mean, who reviewed it? That goes a long way in determining whether or not I really care about whatever score they gave it. Reviews aren''t arbitrary judges of greatness, they''re the reviewers opinion on his/her experience playing the game. It''s hard for me to get anything meaningful if I don''t know who reviewed it.
All I''m saying is if you want to believe Doom III is great, you don''t need a review, just go buy it. If you''re looking for information about the quality of the game, this is a little too vauge for me. I''ll probably wait a bit longer to read some more reviews.

With the no-return policies of today? Hell, no. Demo or nothing.

August 3rd? Won''t have any new gear by then, looks like I''ll be playing Doom 3 on medium.

Yeah, I do.

I have the July edition of PC Gamer. They weren''t very liberal with the scores. Theif got around 74% and CoH got around 84%. They did promise a surprise in their next issue.

From what I''ve played of the game (from the beta) I might be picking it up. I want to see how it would run on a machine like mine first.

Seeing D3 easily run at over 50fps on high settings on a 9800 Pro was all the proof I needed that I didn''t need an upgrade for it.

I read a rumour a few weeks back saying that for the average gamer we should expect around 30 of gameplay. I blew it off thinking ""no way"", but maybe it wasn''t so far fetched? They have been working on the damn thing for about 4 years!

Hmm, around 20 hours for 4 years. That means with every year they added 5 hours of gameplay! Now that is some great development.

Jesus christ, DNF will make Morowind look like Max Payne 1/2 or even worse Gungrave (45 minutes to beat the game).

Uh, actually reviews ARE arbitrary. Look it up.
The part of this story that''s hard to believe is that the scan of the cover says September 2004. That would make the issue not this month''s, but over a month from now. That''s some early work.
