WoW: Anyone changing mains for Cataclysm?
Thursday, November 4th, 2010 - 1:58pm
[This isn't a GWJ guild post.] I'm curious if after playing around with 4.0.1 or just through class/role fatigue through WotLK you're first character to 85 (and gearing) is going to be someone other than your traditional main.
I haven't decided whether it'll be the mage or hunter.

I'm definitely sticking with my hunter as my main, but I suspect my shaman might get a lot of play too, if for no other reason than that the healing role still feels like a new game to me. It'll certainly get played more than any of my alts did before (where they were just bankers or farmers).

Still sticking with my Druid. I've put in too much to switch now, especially since I have 310 riding and all the achievements on it. Plus, I've never tanked on it before, so I might try that, depending on my raid's needs.

I'll always have my main mage. He's a space goat. There are many like him, but he is mine. However, the temptation to roll a frikkin' werewolf is just too great to pass up.

My Druid has been my main since the very first day vanilla went live. It'd feel like a betrayal to switch now
But that's not to say I won't be leveling other classes. I'm quite fond of my Mage, and she'll be geared for raiding at some point in the future. I'm also planning on leveling a Worgen Rogue, but we'll see how far that gets. I'm concerned the combat might be too similar to my Druid in feral mode to be exciting enough to get me to 85. All the old world changes will make 1-60 more interesting, but then slogging through Otuland and Northrend again might be his demise.

I switched over to my mage as my main after burning out on healing with my paladin about a year ago, and haven't turned back. I'll still keep them both levelled to the cap, but I'll be levelling my mage first and gearing it up for raiding.
I'm actually switching my paladin's mainspec over to tanking in Cataclysm for a change of pace, but will maintain a healing spec for my offspec.
I definitely still plan to roll up a worgen rogue though; I've wanted to try a rogue for a long time, and I'll want to give the worgen a whirl, so it makes sense to take that route.

I switched mains last expansion from rogue to lock and I think I'll be switching again to DK for Cataclysm. Blood tanking seems to be viable now and damn if DKs aren't fun in PvP.
I'll still lvl my rogue and lock to 85 eventually.
I'm putting my warlock on the bench, for my shaman. My lock has been my main since day one, but hybrids are just much more enjoyable to play for me.
I'm switching but just not exactly sure yet. Before i was set on shaman but really started liking the rogue.

Great idea for a thread! The only way I would change would be if I just can't stand all the changes to Ret. Character-wise, my Paladin is my WoW main without question. I haven't raided on him since 4.01, though, and it seems like the Ret add-on situation is still shaking out. We'll see.
Btw I know this isn't a GWJ guild thread, but I've been thinking it would be handy to have a list somewhere that is the official guild registry of raiders' mains and main specs, for handy reference and transparency.

Not any time soon. I am really digging the shaman. It is nice to do DPS and wear mail. I don't even miss wands relative to the cloth people. When I joined up with GWJ I left behind the Warlock I took to 70 with the Evil Avatar guild.
I will be making an alt post Cat, it will be a worgen. I am leaning to Druid, Rogue, Warrior because I have never really played a mele class very far.

Its too hard to choose. So I guess I am not going to change my main. I am an altoholic with no real main and I don't see anything that is going to make me change.
I will say that the closest thing I've had to a main is my 60 something druid on another server. I rolled a newb druid on another server to rekindle the druid flame and it worked. So I am definitely going to roll a worgen druid on blackhand.
As far as other classes go, some old favorites are still FTW such as the hunter. But some new "off specs" are a total blast, led by the holy paladin, disc priest and subtlety rogue.

I switch mains with every expansion. This expansion will either be a Worgen Druid or a Tauren Paladin.

I really wish they would have let gnomes be paladins.

I do this too. For Vanilla WoW it was a Tauren Hunter, for BC it was a Tauren Warrior, and for WotLK it was an Orc Rogue.

I'm switching my main alt, does that count?
Seriously, I love warrior tanking too much to change, in spite of some of the weird side effects out there right now they're still trying to work through (I hope). I have decided to switch my primary second toon to my shammy, as I'm liking shammy healing much more than holy/disc, and I'm even switching her dps spec over to elemental for a change of pace. Planning on rolling a Worgen Druid as soon as Kam is 85 and working well towards being ready for raiding again though. I've always wanted a druid, but I can't stand the NE ears/eyebrows at all. If I was horde, I'd probably already have a druid as my second toon.

I'm going back to my rogue who was my main until Wrath. Rolled the DK so I'd have a high level char with GWJ Alliance. Once faction change became available I switched the rogue to Alliance. Had fun relearning the class this summer.

I just want to roll a new character to experience all the new low level content. I can't be bothered to level up a toon I already have post 70, so that rules out druid, DK, hunter, and priest. I think worgen mage sounds pretty tempting.

This is my plan too.
I have an 80 warlock, 80 hunter, 80 paladin, 70+ DK, 60+ rogue, 50+ mage, 40+ shaman. I'm really not too interested in leveling any of them to 85 right off the bat. I'm thinking of taking a Worgen Druid from 1-85 in order to see all the changes. I talked to a lot of my old guildies and they are thinking the same thing. I think that leveling to 85 right away means that I'll miss 90% of the expansion. I'd like to see how Blizz handles the new player experience with a fresh perspective.

My first character (and my first to 60, 70 and 80) was a hunter. He and I have had a good run, but he would rather spend his days fishing than roaming the earth shooting things and skinning them. So now he spends his days along the coast of Stranglethorn, where he spends his days drinking (he's a dwarf, after all), fishing, swimming and ambushing a pirate or two just for fun.
So now my main's a paladin (mostly prot/some ret). I pretty much made the switch 3-4 months ago, but I'll take him into Cata as my main.
To keep my alt-itis somewhat under control, I'm going with this priority:
* 80 prot/ret paladin (tank)
* 80 arms/maybe fury warrior (melee DPS/Jewelcrafting)
* New dwarf shaman to run with the Blackhand leveling group (healer)
* Ranged DPS tba; probably an elemental shaman Horde-side somewhere so I can see the new & improved Barrens (with Extra Barrens Chat (tm))!
* 69 disc/shadow priest -- I'm leveling him now, and I'd like to see what I can do with him.
The paladin will probably be first to 80, followed by my warrior. And at some point I'll roll a worgen and goblin just to play through the new starting areas.
I think that'll keep me going for a while.

I don't know what I'm going to do, really. I usually can't make raids, so I'm not in a big hurry to get my Shaman to 85. I really want to see the new Azeroth, so I will be levelling 2 more toons through there, my Dwarf Priest, and a Worgen Druid... and maybe a paladin of some flavour. The first to 85 will probably be my Death Knight, because she is my herber and miner, so she's going to be making tons of money and mats for the rest of my dudes.
Torq - I can certainly see myself whipping it out for a quick solo on commutes though.
I'm really struggling with this decision. I've got a DK, Shaman & Warlock sitting at 80. The DK and Shaman are maxed out with rep and skills, the Lock is a little behind and I can't make myself level fishing again.
I like the idea of going into Cat as a tank because I think they're going to be at a premium. I don't mind tanking for guildies but PuG tanking makes me feel dirty. It's also nice to have an insta-queue whenever I want it.
I love my Shaman, always have, always will. He'll likely always be my favorite class but not my favorite to play. If they doubled the dps of Enhancement I'd re-spec that way and never look back. Resto is fine but I just don't like staring at health bars.
Lastly, my Lock. Nice dps as Destro...a casting hunter as Demo. They're going to bring two great forms of CC to Cat which I think will be HUGE for the new dungeons. I'm just not sure I want to be yet another dps'er who is waiting in line to get a group.
I toyed with the idea of finishing my warrior who's level 72. I just hate the fact that none of his reps will be leveled when he hits 80. I know it doesn't matter but am I the only one that likes all my stuff maxed before the expac?
Soooo many choices

My reservation with the new azeroth is that while there is new content, there will be a whole load of old content as well, polished to new standards and adapted to fit the new world, with the same old "kill 6 scallywags" or "collect 8 rocks". I know the 80+ content will be that type too, as that is their game, I just don't think I'll want to do the old stuff all again.
I'll take a look at the new world as I fly over it, but won't land.
I'm not quite sure what I will do. Paladin, Druid, Dk are at 80. We don't have many paly healers or druid healers, so I will probably focus on those, but I sure do like being a boomkin. I'll do what needs to be done for the best of the guild though.

If I do end up re-activating my sub for cataclysm, I'm not sure if will jump back into the warrior, or switch to the mage. Playstyle wise, I'm just not sure if it makes sense to stay as a prot warrior when I'll want to play more casually. Then again, it's hard to know or even guess without tooling around with the new spec's. Guess it's something I won't know until if/when I renew and cata rolls in.

Prot warrior is an instant dungeon finder spot, and the PuG DF creates a very casual-friendly way to play. Have only an hour to spare? Go in and run a couple of dungeons. You get gear, gold, XP, and the occasional nasty spat between PuG members arguing about which of them is the superior WoW player.
I'll play my dps classes in a PUG, but refuse to tank for them, thats something only ever do with Guildies. It was an excercise in torture playing the warrior through enough PUGs for the achievements.

My 2 main characters since release have been a druid and lock but I think I'm gonna drop the druid for my resto shaman. Just have to get used to having cast times
