I Need a Media Player Alternative
Wednesday, May 26th, 2004 - 5:13pm
My brother's fully updated Media Player 9 takes up 100% CPU every time you try to play a video and it idles around 50% if you just open the program and do nothing. So rather than waste my time trying to fix it, I'll just suggest he use something else instead. Any thoughts?

I still swear by winamp. Every codec immaginable, easy to configure, etc.
Winamp does all the video stuff?

Zoom Player - this is the best all around standalone media player.
VideoLan is also good if you have files that just won''t play. It''ll handle anything.
I usually use Winamp5 though, I forget why I switched to it from Zoom and I''m too lazy to change it back.

I use Zoom Player. Very solid and comfortable.
Winamp3 was irritating. I skipped from 2 to 5 and am perfectly happy with it.
Got any toast?
Zoom Player! That''s the one I couldn''t think of. Thanks!

Quintessential Media Player does everything Winamp does but does it faster and better. It r0xx0rz.

There are NO phones ringing, Dammit!!!!!
Zoom Player (registered user) is great, aside from trying to resolve codec problems and the unfriendly interface. I use it on my PVR boxes and it works very well. BSPlayer isn''t bad either and more friendly than Zoom Player.
no particular interest, no particular talent
I was pretty hyped about Quintessential Media Player until I realized it doesn''t have a media library feature. After using Winamp 5 I can''t live without it.

Yeah, but it doesn''t integrate into my uber cool Blackbox desktop, so its useless.
Divx Player is ok
