No surprise there, advertisements long ago ruined sports. I hear they are also going to put ads on the players sleeves as well.

but...baseball. I can just see players wearing looking like NASCAR drivers...and it''s not pretty.

That''s a great idea. Every home run will be the ball ""making a run for the border."" A-Rod can say ""yo qiero mas dinero.""

Plus, it just feels right. Like Taco Bell, the Yankees are unquestionably good, but also strongly associated with excrement.

We can blame the Yankees for this. That is one thing I''m sure about.

I had no idea they even *needed* to advertise Spider-Man 2. The first was effing huge, and people have been clamoring for it ever since. Stunts like this should be reserved for under-performing garbage movies.

Everyone knows the Cubs are sponsored by Cannon. It says so in the ad. Cannon: The official camera of the Chicago Cubs (when they go to the World Series as spectators).

You guys have it wrong Spiderman 2 didn''t need the publicity MLB does I mean I wasn''t even aware it still existed I thought everyone stopped watching after the strike thinger years ago ..... not that I ever watched it... I do once in a while (meaning once so far but probably again this year) go to a Senators game (although they are a minor league team but only about 20 miles away in Harrisburg, PA)

In related news, I''m psyched because I just recently found out that my town (pop. ~25,000 but about ~40,000 in the summer) is getting a minor league team -- the Saratoga Phillies. That will be really fun to bring my kids to on a regular basis.

All your base.... no, sorry I just can''t do it.

As for advertisement in sport, it is inevitable. Pity that this advertisement chose
1) a sport no one watches
2) a location that no one will see
3) a location that gets spat on and covered in dirt during play
yeah, real smart.

Well I watch baseball a lot (so do a lot of my friends), but I agree that the location is ridiculous. I''d be curious to know if the umps will be pressured to brush off the base after every play or something...

Of course, my only experiences of watching baseball is when I used to stumble home from the pub and it happened to be on. Sitting on the couch, trying to focus on what ever game was being played.

It''s only recently I realised that there''s only one batter and one pitcher playing at a given time. This greatly disappointed me.

More often than not I''d wake up in an incredably uncomfortable position around 06.00, with EuroSport re-runs of the 1974 world cup match between peru and morocco running on the tv

So yeah, baseball...

I think you guys are missing the point. The point is that the Yankees are to blame and we should start rioting. Don''t lose focus!

Hah. Not with the snazzy new zipline cam a-la the NFL. Now when there''s a play at second on a steal they''ll be able to zoom down from above right into that sexy Spider-Man logo center, full-frame.

I noticed a few other new baseball broadcast things I hadn''t noticed before the other night during the Col/Atl games...one was cool -- the catcher''s helmet cam...and the other was annoying as hell -- the superimposed distance arrows showing how much of a lead the 1st base runner was taking..gimme a break.

*sarcasm alert* Well, you could always blame the players.. if they did not fight and fight for their ridiculous salaries and free agency then the owners and MLB would not have to whore themselves out for any money they can get.... Lets go back to the days where players were virtual slaves to the team and the owners were kings and making all the money! yay! *end of sarcasm alert*

No, quite seriously.. owners today have proven already that they couldn''t give a rats arse about the ""history"" of the game. They brought in the fences, lowered the mounds, squeezed the strike zone, and let the players take any substance they can get as long as it boosts power numbers and get them more eye-catching home runs so that ESPN can run em on their highlight reel. Why should we be surprised that they would start putting advertising on everything??

At first i was picturing an add that covered the entire base. So I went and read that the add is only going to be 4 inches square. I doubt anybody will ever see that unless the camera zooms in on the base.

Of course I also read that the Yankees and Red Sox are both getting about 100k of the money and other teams about 50K. Just what the Yankees need, more money than most other teams.
