Supreme Ruler 2010
Friday, April 30th, 2004 - 3:57pm
This game has me riled up like no other. There's been previews up for a couple of weeks, and the release date is nebulously defined as Q2 2004 or Q3 2004 depending on where you look. Anybody going to be down for multiplayer when this comes out?

It looks incredibly complicated San, not sure I''d be capable of ""playing"" a ""game"" like that. Too much detail!

mmm.... detail....
I guess you have to be the kind of asshole who enjoyed Harpoon to get off on this game. Luckily for me, I just happen to be that kind of asshole.

Did you also play Squad Leader Sanjuro? The tabletop game, not the computer version.
Graktar, Orc Hunter
I did not play Squad Leader but I heard great things about it. I can''t really say that I''ve ever played any tabletop strategy games, and I can''t ever convince anybody to try and get into it with me. I did make the egregious mistake of buying Squad Leader the PC game, which was so wretchedly bad that I didn''t even sell it back, I just threw it away so as to spare humanity of that particular copy.

I spent more hours than I care to count playing Harpoon. I used to love coordinating airstrikes the most. EW planes, then SEAD Missions, then my strike from several point on thecompass at once, perfectly timed. Ah, yes, it was fun. I''m really looking forward to Dangerous Waters.

My problem with DW is that sure, the Americans have a bunch of stuff to use, but the Russians and the Chinese only have one fast attack sub and a clunker of a diesel that looks like it belongs in Silent Hunter. And you thought people bitched about the side balance in the BF games.
That said, I''m liking this Supreme Ruler 2010 the more I read about it, but I think I''ll stick to GalCiv''s expansion, whenever it comes out.

Harpoon was the sh*t. 8)
I started my own blog so when I feel the need to make an ass out of myself, I won't have as far to go.
This looks like an awesome game, and I want it. Now.
It''d be nice if they''d list the factions. For some reason, I think it''d be hilarious if someone conquered the world based out of Cleveland.

A great game within this genre is Paradox''s ""Hearts of Iron"", a strategic-level real-time WWII game wherein you can play pretty much any country you''d care to. For anyone with a little more hard-core wargamer inclination, I can''t reccommend it highly enough (now that it''s been adequately patched).
And, what''s more, today Paradox announced HoI 2 for early 2005.
I tried so hard to like HoI, but the diplomatic model was too simplistic and the unit production/maint./movement was a bit idiosyncratic for my taste.

Methinks I have an idea for a new thread.....
