OK got my new grill this weekend
Monday, April 26th, 2004 - 10:07am
I went out and picked up the Weber Genisis Silver B based on some sterling recommendations this past Saturday.
After mowing my lawn and assembling the grill I was ready for the debut grilling.
Grilled a bunch of chicken breast and they were great.
Then on Sunday I grilled steaks which also turned out wonderful.
Have to say I do really love this grill so thanks for the recommendations.
Now I just need to pick up some better grill tools.

Glad you like it...I''ve been loving mine this spring. I made jerk pork chop on Friday, with grilled plantains...mmmmm. The Weber grills perfect every time.

I''m going to have to pick one of these up. They''re so expensive, though... I''ll try to wait until later in the season and hope to snag one on the cheap.

I need to buy a new BBQ as well. The current one I have is only two years old and is a natural gas model (way more convenient than asking yourself if there is still propane in the tank), but its very flimsy. It wasn''t a cheap one -- sort of a middle of the road price, but I''ve been really disappointed in its overall structural integrity and quality. I should have returned it the first year I had it, but procrastination ended up costing me.
How much did your Weber cost Maladen?

Such a timely thread. This weekend my grill croaked on one side. I tore the whole thing apart and cleaned the jets, no help. The quality of the parts are just to low. It''s a low end Thermos model.
I like the idea of using natural gas for a new grill. I would only need to run a line about 4-5 meters. Thanks Marlin, I hadn''t even thought of that before.

The grill I picked up was $450. I priced it at 3 places Home Depot, Lowes, and Sears. It was the same price at all 3 locations.
Think I am going to make some Pork Chops next either BBQ or Sweat and Sour.
Raining kind of hard today here in the nation''s capitol so might be a day or 2 befor I make them but can not wait.
You joke but was thinking it would be kind of fun to do a GWJ BBQ or something like that.
The Weber Genesis Silver B has a fairly accurate weight gauge to tell how much propane is left in the tank. Of course, keeping a spare tank somewhere safe is a good idea.
With all the Weber lovin'' around here, they would be a good corporate sponsor if this site ever wants help subsidizing the GWJ shirts & hats.
How about GWJ-approved grill accessories?

I got one of these in january. I LOVE it. Steaks, Chicken breasts, Whole chickens.. it does it all.
I cooked the ricotta chicken last night (its little recipe book that comes with the grill) and it was fantastic. I definately recomend it.
However I am curious to see if anybody else has had some of the same problems I''ve had. They''re pretty minor:
1) when I put a chicken in the center of the grill the thermometer appears to get blocked just right so it doesn''t register the correct temp(I can fix this by just dropping another oven thermometer in it)
2) Sometimes when it''s windy the fire gets blown out. Now i live in north texas so we don''t even have THAT much wind. I think I''ve figured out a solution however, If i angle the grill so that no side is directly in the wind it appears to keep going(IE, face a corner into the wind).
Just curious. I''ve had a great time grilling on it though and think it was well worth the money.
Ours gets blown out by the wind occasionally. I never understood why -- it seems pretty well sealed. I''m just left huffing fumes...

It is great, my wife and I love it. Our first house already had a natural gas line out to the back yard where we built the deck. Our new house we had to have it put in. Given that we''re talking about natural gas here, I chose to have a plumber run the line for me, which was thankfully very easy as I also had a hose feeding a natural gas fireplace on that side of the house that he could connect to. I think it cost me around $300 CDN, but it was worth it.

Yes, I would definitely leave it to a plumber. Now I''m thinking it would be easy to branch into the kitchen for a gas stove. Time to call my plumber friend.

You know my house uses gas for heating, cooking, and water heater.
Never thought of getting a natural gas grill.
I am happy though with what I have now I need a real deck.
I mean how can a MAN grill on a patio!!
OOh, we''re getting a deck here real soon but this natural gas grill talk has me thinking. Everything else in our house (including fireplace) is natural gas, couldn''t be too hard to run a line out to the deck...

Hey baggachipz we are neighbors I bet or maybe even share offices and do not know it.
Of course I do not share an office so would be a bit odd if that was true but hey......
We are going to have to grill for each other sometime. Yummmm Grilled Cicadas!!
The only problem I see with a Natural Gas grill is you are sort of stuck with grill placement. Once you have the line you can not really relocate easily. That and I could just imagine forgetting to turn off a valve or something and my gas bill that month would be through the roof.
At least the most I can do is waste 1 tank of propane which is only $13.
Very valid points, I was just counting on my general laziness to get me to end up with the propane grill anyway
And yeah, I live in Leesburg so grill on!
God I hope we don''t get many of the secadas here, it''s a pretty new development so hopefully they''ve churned the dirt enough to kill those little bastards before they take over our area. People in the rest of the country, thank your lucky stars if you don''t get 17-year secadas. The last time they were here I was a little tyke sitting in the back yard smashing them with a hammer.

That''s a really nice lookin'' grill, maladen (I just Googled it for all the cool details).
My gas grill is on its last legs and I''ve been debating whether to buy a new one or not. $450 is not a bad price but I''m not sure it''s worth it given that I only grill 2 or 3 times a year. Unfortunately, the slambie man of the house has no interest in grilling so if anyone''s going to do it, it''s me or no one.

Leesburg! That is the boon docks.
I am in Annandale and I am sure we will get the cicadas big time. My house and neighbor hood is all like 35+ years old with a lot of trees and the like that are very old.
Yeah not sure if I would pay $450 to grill only a couple times a year but if you are going from charcoal to gas like I did you will find it so much easier to use than the old way you may grill more often.
I used to live in Falls Church. Talk about traffic jams...I was afraid to cross the street to get to the local bodega because of the traffic. And the apt. complex I lived in didn''t allow grills

I can neither confirm nor deny the exsistance oh a hot new girl.
Besides I am not so sure I can handle one if I had one but I know a sure as heck give it the old college try.
It is true that it requires a little more care, if only for the outright safety (don''t smoke near it!). The way my set up is that I have a hose that comes out of the house to a valve that you turn on/off. From the valve is a hose that then connects to the BBQ, that again needs to be turned on/off for the flow of gas. Essentially there are two points restricting the flow of gas preventing you from wasting or releasing a potential major fire hazzard. As for mobility, its as simple as a longer hose to move the BBQ further from the valve outside of the house (attached to the deck, in my case). The valve has a quick coupler/decoupler as well, so the BBQ can be fully disconnected and moved (for cleaning, for example).
Its not for everyone (some people swear by charcoal, for example), but the convenience and cleanliness of it have been great for me. That being said, aside from it being a different kind of BBQ, I could go back to propane (and propane accessories) if needed.

Webber makes a Genesis Silver B in Natural gas.
Glad you liked the pick, Maladen. Grill in good health!

Do you grill owners have exceptionally big gardens? Very few people in London would have the space for a grill of the size you''ve been talking about.
It''s odd that such a simple thing can be an indicator about the differences in quality of life between our countries.

I have about a 40''x30'' veggie garden, if you''d call that big. Of course, I live in the middle of nowhere.

Not exceptionally big... for instance, I have a townhouse with .06 acres of land. Yeah, that''s right. Not a lot. But certainly big enough for a decent deck, patio, and a large grill.

Please note that he is probably talking about your yard/lawn. When I stayed in Wales they had no idea what a yard was.
That being said my garden/yard is about .75 acres.

My house sits on a lot that is like .27 acre. So while not huge it is also a decent size.
