We finally (finally!) got the Battlefield: Vietnam server showing up on the in-game master list. That said, the server ip has changed to the following:

67.99.121.11

The rest of the info is the same, check Gamecal for details and we'll see you tonight!

Yeah, not having ""quality"" flying ruined that map. Time for some of us to practice. I am going for the joystick soon.

Yep, at one point the server was topped up at 32 people and ran beautifully. Really great.

I''m sure I''ll be able to smuggle myself out of here in about two weeks for a little game of Raven Shield.
Of course, once I''m free I''ll still need a way to connect.

I think Ral was saying how poor of a player he was last week but when he gets the M60 in his hands he takes full advantage

I hit him in the shoulder and chest 5 times and he didn''t die, he turns and hits me with the M60 with one burst and I am dead before I hit the ground. Oh well.

When I''m on the US side, I love that gun. I can just charge into a base Rambo-style and take out as many as 2-3 people and still live. Just by raining lead in the entire area. But, when I''m VC, I *hate* that gun. There''s practically no way to avoid that ""shower of death."" Had fun last night, though. Maybe next week we put the password on so that we can get a good 10v10? I''ve found that with 32 people on a big map that requires vehicles I spend most of my time waiting for a ride. When I get to hop in a chopper, someone else who has no idea which way''s up has jumped into the driver''s seat and has decided to run us all into a cliff or nose-dive into the runway trying to pick a tank up.

I would like to try this next week also to see how it goes. Maybe we could have a cap at 20 to 24 with a password. Besides I like killing you guys more with my Corsair, not some random guys who come on the server.

On the flip side, the M16 sniper rifle is a piece of crap. Not last night, but the last time we played I hit somebody 3 or 4 times without dying. DIE, I was saying, DIE, you turd, only they wouldn''t die and finally I was like well if you''re hunting turds I guess you need bigger guns.

I had the same problem so I did some testing last night Alien13z. I realized if I shot someone in the chest or lower it took about 2 to 3 shots to kill them. However, if you aim at the shoulders or head you can get a 1 shot kill. BUT the people I killed in one shot could have been already injured so it is hard to tell.

Also, what was name of the night jungle map we were on last night for the last map? I love that map. It would be great to play it earlier in the night when everyone is still awake.

Were you saying DIE, you turd, DIE, too? Do you think the same is true for the scoped Communist sniper rifle, the M21, and the M40(is that right?)?

I was too tired to yell or anything.
I have not tested the strength of all the sniper rifles yet but I would like to run a test. I will probably get on GG''s server in the next few days (around 6:30 EST) and if one of you guys gets on also we can test the strength of the rifles based on location of the shots?

I call victim. I''m not into the shooting part, I just like the getting hit part.

If you aim for the NECK you will get a one shot kill on a full health target.

Sorry I had to skip out right before everyone else showed up last night (~9:00EST). I looked at XFire before I went to bed and there were a lot of GWJ folks on. Sigh.

I agree about the M60. I think making it harder to control, with a bigger spread is all they need to do. Right now it''s easier to aim than the M16.

I realize that I need teamspeak. There is nothing worse than dropping a bunch of bouncing betties around you flag, only to see a team-mate come strolling up like he has nothing better to do, while you frantically try to type out a warning. And then, click, pop, blammo. Guh.

I was on for a little while last night.

I agree with the sentiments that it would be more fun to play with just the GWJ folks if there are enough. Perhaps starting the server passworded and then taking it off if there are not enough GWJ''ers to get close to ten on ten.

That, and a TS channel for eaach team.

Mostly we really wanted to test the server, and see what sort of turnout we got. I think if we have basically the same number of GWJers next week we''ll go to passworded server. I tend to agree that having the other folks on wasn''t exactly an ''enhancement''.

Overall, I''m pretty disappointed in Vietnam. I''ll continue to play on GWJ night, but I''d be hard pressed to find an interest at playing any other time. It''s not just about unbalanced weapons for me, but when I got my ''invalid CD key'' error last night and discovered this was a known issue from the Battlefield 1942 release that never got solved, I was pretty surprised and annoyed. The same with many sound related slowdown issues people have been experiencing. To release an entirely new product and not make any progress on some of the basic bugs of the previous version is absolutely pathetic.

Sorry to hear that Elysium and I agree it is annoying for a title to launch with older known issues. However, I have not had the CD key problem, punkbuster problem, or sound problem...yet. It may very well happen but my experience so far has been extremely positive (except when I try and capture a flag with a helo).

Some part of me likes BFV more than UT2K4 and I may be in the minority with that but oh well. But I really enjoy the immersion level and strategy that comes with BFV, instead of the hectic ""run-n-gun"" of UT2K4. Don''t get me wrong, I like both games but I am leaning to BFV being more fun.

My only real issue is the ATI related issues but I have learned the workaround for all of those after reading a lot of message boards. I am not sure if BFV will ever grow to the popularity of BF1942/DC but I am willing to wait for all the mods.

I''m with you Flux, I favor BFV right now. I just like the strategy over the twitch -- especially since I suck at the twitch. It''s what EA always does, they release great games with the bare minimum polish allowed to make it sale-able. It''s a damn shame. That said, since I don''t experience too many problems (aside from an occasional crash-to-desktop) I really enjoy the game.

What the hell is wrong with PunkBuster anyway? I was getting kicked off the server every 15 minutes for no reason (unless getting mowed down by an M60 counts as cheating).

And the sound problems seem to get worse every time I play. I don''t think this game was ready to be released... I hope the patch comes soon.
