Hellboy trailer
Wednesday, March 24th, 2004 - 10:08pm
I saw the Hellboy trailer tonight, and having been a comic fan I do hope that it is a good film. The trailer is definitely intrigueing, but I don't really know the background, so I don't know if it's a good fit or not. Is there any GWJer out there who could give a quick backstory to those of us not in the know?

If Hellboy is not the coolset film ever, I will eat my hat.
Hellboy backstory in 30 sec or less:
Nazis! Nazis have obsession with the occult! Find ancient books that give them summoning powers - summon little red devil complete w/horns, tail, GOP membership card, etc. American GI''s storm the place, rescue baby devil - raised a goddamned American who likes American stuff. Named Hellboy. With horns (that he shaves off in an effort to ""fit in"", even though he''s like 7ft tall 400 lbs. Hellboy joins BPRD, a gov agency that investigates/eliminates paranormal threats - Nazis show up again, decades later - Hellboy defeats them but then it''s all for nothing when Reagan and Thatcher are elected so in the end the Nazis win.

May I suggest a nice Merlot or a full-bodied Zinfandel to go with your hat?

We had this problem way back when we first switched the forums but it should be totally fine these days. Log out, log back in and let me know how it goes.

Alright, I logged out and back in. I''ll let you know if it happens again.
It''s a really great, deep, well-done comic book. Buy the tradepaperbacks, they''re very worth it.
As a Hellboy fan, so far the trailers look good. I was concerned they were gonna screw it all up, but I think it''s gonna be a fun movie, and well done, as well.

I will see this movie opening night, and I will be quite objective about it (or at least, as objective as possible) and will post pictures of my hat-eating soiree if it is deemed necessary for one to take place.

For what that is worth.
I am looking forward to it because the director (Guillermo del Toro) directed Blade 2 which I loved!
But then again aintitcool loved Matrix Reloaded. And it''s retarded beyond belief. In fact, it''s so retarded, the intellectual vacuum it''s created will suck out your brains through your nose if you''re not careful.

I ask this in all seriousness - has there ever been a movie Harry Knowles didn''t like? Especially a fantasy/science fiction/horror movie?

I was reading a really old thread where Mex posted as someone named ""goldenpants"". His reaction was beyond priceless. I hate that I missed out on so much old-school fun.
Really, if you look up fanboy in the dictionary, there''s Harry''s picture. Well, there would be if it could actually fit on a normal sized sheet of paper.
But to anwer the question, even Mr. Knowles didn''t like League of Extraordinary Lameness... there''s been others too, although he''s certainly more than willing to overlook a flaw or twenty.
