It is getting some good review, but I can't help but feel skeptical. It seemed pretty derivative in the demo. Gamespot basically annointed it the successor to Half-Life.
I dunno, maybe I'm just grumpy that I can't afford the kind of video card it really needs

I played the demo with my Ti4200 64mb, and it could handle it with the details on medium and the res at 8x6.

I just brought it home, but I''m going to do a format and re-install everything from scratch. Been having some problems that I can''t diagnose for the life of me so I''m gonna start over. I should have Far Cry installed later today...

I was reading where people were raving about it being easy to make maps.
For myself, I have to know that the multiplayer code is up to snuff. I am not interested in a singleplayer only game, which is what the multiplayer beta felt like.

As Certis said, you can save anywhere if you want to. Just open the console and type /save_game [blah] to save and /load_game [blah] to, well obviously, load. There were demo mods that mapped that console command to the F5/F6 keys, and I guess you''ll see a similar mod for the final version later today or tomorrow. Crytek is going to add quicksave either way in the second patch as can be read here.
The demo killed my system and the MP is kind of bleh, according to Flux. I''m taking a pass on this one unless it gets ported to a console.

Well, the retail is running a lot better than the demo for people and the MP very well may be patched to our liking Rat. Don''t give up on it yet. If I can be convinced to get it, then I know you can

Right now: yes. However, you can expect some mod to show up within the next 2 days since there''s already one like that available for the demo. And once the second patch arrives it''ll also be ''officially'' possible to quicksave.

Considering how many awesome multiplayer games I''ve got in which I can readily get my ass kicked, I was dying for a good single player focused game. It''s probably a good thing Certis is doing impressions for this game, because my first impressions would not be particularly coherent beyond, goddamn FarCry is awesome. Is it single player Half-Life caliber, I don''t know yet, but even having that open as a possibility is a testament. The graphics engine is, of course, gorgeous, and I''ve had moments where the atmosphere and setting were every bit what I''ve been hoping from the Doom 3 engine. The action is intense, though the AI can be a bit sketchy in certain situations. The sounds are thick and meaty, and the gameplay reaches a good balance of giving you complete freedom to explore without leaving you uncertain which direction will further the plot. The voice acting is pretty abyssmal, but who cares? Beautiful, fun, jaw-dropping, intense, and at turns even creepy as hell, all terms I''d personally use to describe FarCry so far.
Maybe I''ll mellow out on the game as I move forward, that''s the way these things often go. I will say that at moments FarCry has made me feel the way I did playing games like Half-Life and Deus Ex, and delivered what I''ve been waiting for with Doom 3 and Half-Life 2. That''s esteemed company indeed. I don''t want to say for certain until I''m further in, or nearly finished with the single player game, but if you''re looking for a strong single-player FPS, I''d be hard pressed to think of a reason not to get FarCry.
I can not wait to see what mods will be made for this game!

FarCry kicks ass....
At first I was getting a little worried..because I wondered if I would be simply killing the Mercenaries over and over...but its rapidly turning into a creepy sort of HL mix...
Vehicles are a little wonky...at least the jeep at this point...but the graphics are amazing and the level of detail of the textures is top notch...
Zooming around with your binaculours really shows how powerful the engine is..
ammo is getting scarce though...simply because the mutant enemies are hella tough...

I should say...I just finished playing 5 hours straight....I couldnt stop playing it was that good...

Ahh guys, you''re making me feel all warm inside. It''s been a long time since a really engrossing SP FPS has come along. I can''t wait to get home.
Wont be able to do that for a least a little while. I got the Xbox version and currently I''m not subscribed to Live!. It''s a shame to because I''m more jacked over the MP mode in this game than anything I can think of recently. Hopefully I''ll have the pc version for the weekend though.

I''m actually looking forward to messing around with their Sandbox game editor also. I haven''t fiddled with making levels since the very early days of Quake, but I''ve been reading how easy and intuitive this is supposed to be and thought I might try my hand again. I remember having a great time playing around with Build back in the Duke 3D days.

i loved the demo, but had low frame-rates (even on medium graphics settings) running 3.06 ghz with hercules 9700 pro.

Some of the posters on rage3d have been playing it non-stop for a couple of days and felt like they may be getting towards the end. If it proves to be a very short game (like a lot of the new generation of games) then I won''t consider it at all. However, if it proves to have over 15 hours of play and the multiplayer has been fixed then I might just snag it on a gogamer sale.
I am glad you guys are liking it. I just don''t think I can handle 3 FPS games in one month''s time.
Edit: The blind fanboyism over on the rage3d boards is actually starting to bother me. Since I trust your guys opinions, could one of you please go to an official server sometime and play a MP game with 20+ people and tell me how the lag and performance is? That would tell me a lot right there.
