Ninja Gaiden, Ch 12, what's the problem?

I've been rolling along in the game, ever ready for the terrible fate that was said to await me in chapter 11, as reported by the Certis and Elysium.

Chapter 11 is by far one of the easiest chapters in the game.

?

I'm not trying to patronize or act cocky. I'm 33 and don't consider myself some great gaming god, but I didn't see anything to complain about.

My Xbox club had formed a sub group for the game. About 6 of us had bought it and most were having troubles. One other guy was on chapter 11 like I was, he asked -

"Where do you go after you swim into that big crack? I keep getting lost and drowning."

"Drowning? Didn't you find the oxygen tanks? They let you stay under water indefinitely."

"Wow! Really? I'll have to look for those!"

"Yeah they're in a half submerged boat. They show you a picture of it while the level is loading."

"Cool! How do you handle the fish?"

"Shoot them with the spear gun."

"There's a spear gun?"

It's a water level, with lots of swimming and fish trying to eat you, but I never drowned or came across a water puzzle of any kind. After beating the boss on the third try - without doing anything tricky (like I had to with those damn worms), I started to wonder what you guys were talking about.

Then I thought, maybe they missed the air tanks as well.

What was it that killed it for you guys?

WARNING SPOILERS MAY BE AHEAD.

As I''ve said before, it wasn''t the difficulty. It was boredom. For the record, I quit in Chapter 10, not 11. Though, the thought of a water level that I didn''t have to deal with fills me with an abstract kind of pleasure.

For those of you still having a great time with the game, more power to you! I realize we were never in the majority of all gamers when we presented our perspective.

I''m sorry, when you said -

Quote:
I''m not going to give away any spoilers, but we both individually quit at almost the exact same spot.

I got the impression that ""something"" happened that made you both quit. I was on chapter 8 at the time that I read that and thought ""I better lookout!""

I want you to sit down now, Elysium. Deep breath...

People are actually paying attention to what you have to say. Sure we make fun of your avatar and call you silly names from time to time, but in reality we respect your well written thoughts. If you were to say ""LOOKOUT!"" suddenly in a room full of GWJ members, I''m sure 95% of us would jump out the window.

Ah, and see, I was just trying to avoid giving specifics about the level we were on. I see now how you got that implication from what I wrote. Look at it this way, you were pleasantly surprised to have not had to face some tremendous evil. I think we enhanced and improved your gaming experience in the end. So, hooray me!

See, Certis. I told you so! Now stop threatening to ''dump some ballast''!

I sent this one back to GameFly today. I just couldn''t bear the thought of wasting hours killing those damn worms in chapter 10 when I could kill you guys in UT or BF:V.

Well.. I beat NG last weekend. I''ve been debating telling yall because I didn''t want to have to swallow my pride and admit it.

It''s really not a very good game. I spent all that time and frustration fighting the same enemies over and over and over.

I''m not looking to spoil the game.. but Certis and Ely were correct in thier analysis of the game and even, in my opinion, amazinly accurate in thier decision to stop playing because it didn''t seem to get better.

I''m not terribly upset about it.. but damn.. I wish I''d been playing neverwinter instead.

I should be getting this from Gamefly soon. I''m itching for some ninja action!

Though, I don''t expect to beat it. I never beat any of the Ninja Gaiden games. Got close, but never could win. I have an absolute blast playing them, though.

I''m happy with the game thus far, in spite of recent comments.

Fighting the worms, yes. They were tough.

Here''s what you do, and even if you don''t like spoilers I suggest you listen to this one.

First get a bunch of magic ready. Next equip incen shurkins.

Start worm fight.

Duck - jump - roll away from the electric shots

When you see them about to do that sweeping knock you on your arise move, hit magic rings of fire (your oldest spell). Just as they rise up and are about to strike, hit it.

The worm will go THROUGH you.
Calmly walk over and start doing double damage.
If they ""take a drink of water"", hit them with the exploding shurkiens.

repeat.

You win with minimal damage.

I have some awesome tactics with the tanks as well.

I look at Ninja Gaiden as an action puzzle game. Just like Splinter Cell, it was something I was happy to repeat sections over with, because I enjoyed playing around with what you could do, and I looked at it as a puzzle.

In spite of it''s flaws, it''s easy to refer to it as the best Ninja game ever made.

I have to agree with Ridlin, I''m in chapter 14; I'm still having fun... though I hate that fish, but I'm still having fun. The worms are easy... all I did is get a Lv.3 Berserker sword, 3 to 4 combos will kill one of them, the second one is very easy to deal with... just jump and press y to slam down on the worm...7 times worm dead. (sp) This sword made my life very easy when fighting Doku, or Great Fiend part 2, or anything else for that matter...

The problem with Certis'' and your attitudes toward this game is that you somehow think the life of a ninja is supposed to be fun. I''m not a ninja, but between the physical training, the ninja code, and the constant danger, I don''t think it looks like much fun at all. Frankly, I think it would suck to be a ninja. So when I play a ninja video game, a good ninja game, it has to be challenging and, yes, repetitious, just like real life for ninjas. You guys should stick to cowboy games and whatever young Canadians use as role models. Snowmobile riders? Lumberjacks? Oh yeah, make that Satanic snowmobile riders and devil-worshipping lumberjacks.

I''ve now finished it twice and unlocked all the originals from the NES. They work surprisingly well on the xbox pad, old school gaming at its best.

As for the worms, use the windmill shuriken, it does nice damage to them and you can smack them with it between their little sweep the floor attacks (which leave them open for combo-y goodness).

My days of not taking you seriously have certainly come to a middle.

Berserker Sword actually has a different name! Starts with a D... something, why I say Berserker, is because in the description of the sword it says Valgarien Berserker... that reminds me a Berserker Anime series. Ah... good memories!

You get the sword after the 30 golden scarabs, Lv.3 will cost you 20K to upgrade. Not sure about windmill shuriken...

[edit] I''m in chapter 15, Doku is a wuss...

Beserker Sword = Dabilahro

Windmill Shuriken is found in Tairon (usually in chapter 4) outside of Han''s Bar. You have to do a series of wall jumps in the alley near the bar, at the top is the windmill shuriken.
