Official GWJ BF:V Friendly Fire Poll

Ok, here's the deal. Guru is awesome.

Now that's out of the way, we need to decide if we want Friendly Fire enabled in Battlefiled: Vietnam. As far as I've gathered, here are the thoughts from both sides:

YES - Having friendly fire on encourages and builds skilled playing and keeps certain types of people off the server if it's opened to the public. It will also attract a higher caliber of player to the server. Also, BF: V is much slower paced than UT2K4 and more tactical.

No - Idiots come into servers just to team kill all the time, no one wants to play on server like that.

Let's Try It First Then Decide - This may be my answer because if there is an automated kick system in place that's fair then I would probably be ok with having FF on.

For this one I vote Yes, since it is a more realistic shooter. Part of the game & its tactical considerations involve making sure your buddies are clear of the target area when you roll in with rockets & napalm.

It is a lot harder to tell who is on your team when they are out a very large range. The name/color doesn''t pop up quick enough or at all sometimes. I say leave it off.

I''m with ST on this one. I think a big part of immersion is needing to take a moment to make sure you''re not lighting up one of your scouts. That and not trying to double-jump. Still working on that second one.

All this science I don't understand. It's just my job five days a week.

You might have a point (somewhat) if we were talking about 1942 but vietnam has the 3d map feature which you can plainly see all friendly units and how far they are and what vehicle and everything...no excuse for hitting friendly...I say leave ff on!

I can see the argument for FF off on UT2K4 but with BF:V being semi-realistic.. I gotta believe it would be more fun with it on.

Aint nothing new about the world order..it's been playing since the day they put George Washington on a quarter

If you don''t leave FF on, I will never be able to frag Barnes in a paradoxical redemption and loss of innocence highlighting the duality of man.

LOL!

I was gonna say that leaving it one makes you have to play smarter, but know that feels so inadequate.

I''d be fine with ff on since this is Battlefield. Teamkills happen, and I''ve never gotten too upset about it unless the person is doing it on purpose.

I ended up voting yes but we need an automated way to handle random idiots who hop on and start killing everyone in sight.

IMO, not being sure if that guy across the ridge is friend or foe is an important part of the experience...

Maybe for some but I don''t think you guys would like it if you were my teammate and got hit in the back with my ""thumper""

To quote myself from the UT2K4 thread:

Quote:
I really like having friendly fire on in BF. Not so much because it adds to the realism but because"… well because accidental TK's are pretty damn funny. Especially in Teamspeak. On a public server where one has no control over Smacktards this can be no fun but on WSA I really like it when we have it enabled. Dramatic Marlin is famous for taking me out with the heli in DC. I think that was the only thing that kept his score in check in that game.

The essential thing here is having the ability to deal with deliberate TK''ers. I''m admin on WSA so I never worried about it, but it doesn''t seems feasible to make us all admin. Voting to kick players seems the best solution otherwise.

Isn''t one of the new features of Battlefield (engine) Vietnam the player voting system? We can boot the idiots off with a simple vote right?

Sometimes there will be, sometimes there won''t be. Depends on how busy the server is at any given time.

The other night I pulled my tank into a flag area, where Alien13z, my teammate, was dutifully capturing the flag. Of course, being the schmuck that I am my finger twitched and I blew him to pieces. He was kind enough not to bawl me out. So I vote yes for friendly fire - I look forward to accidentally killing each of you in turn.

Maybe I''m a mutant, but I don''t mind dying to friendly fire as long as I feel that my killer-teammate didn''t intend it, and is trying to learn better how to check his targets.

Of course, there''s also the possibility that I brought it on myself. If I''m wandering around by myself behind enemy lines, I''m running the real risk of being mistaken for the enemy by my buddies. But I''m comfortable with that.

But again, I''m willing to accept that it makes me a mutant.

Using the ""Q"" button can prevent allot of incidents of fratricide. Especially from the air, but it also helps when you see something at a distance and are not sure what it is. It will tell you if something is friendly in a kind of cool way.

Ooooh a definite yes and they also need to build in a way to stop bunnyhopping in games like BFV man you didn''t see the guys in ''nam hopping round like they were on steroids!

""yeah man we lost the war due to Charlie bunnhopping past our defences...""

(grumps off to moan and whinge about bunnyhopping to anyone who''ll listen, like the grumpy old man he''s slowly turning into)

Every time I see somebody bunny-hopping across the rice paddy towards me I know I''ve got a kill coming, and there''s always the hope that this''ll be the kill that sends him back to UT or Quake. There''s no way he''s gonna hit anything hopping around like that, and I''ve got all the time in the world to aim...

Unless he''s using the M60 Wonder Gun. It''s sad when it''s easier to snipe with a machine gun than a sniper rifle.
